  1. It occurs to me, after the fact, that you're talking about the movie I haven't watched yet, and not about "Who's on First?".
  2. Well, I hope you're pleased with yourself. My copy arrived today - it was all of $3.99 on Amazon. Just in case it's not so great, I ordered the 7th season of Vera (for way too much, but British shows always cost too much). And just in case neither of them was sufficient, I got a Wing Sung 601 fountain pen and a notebook with Tomoe River paper in it.

@mirkwood, @Traveler needs a favor! I'm sure he'd be willing to bring his bike into your jurisdiction in exchange. Maybe you could tip him off to places where it's more likely you can exceed the speed limit on a bike?
  4. If you really want to know about Venus, you need to read Perelandra (by C. S. Lewis - but it's book 2 in a series, so you might first want to read about Mars in book 1, Out of the Silent Planet). Don't give away book 3, That Hideous Strength, I haven't started it yet!

Does your bishop know you've taken on a side job for the mob? Maybe if you stopped having seconds, you would do better.
  6. I'm considering skipping Windows 10 and upgrading straight from Windows 7 to one of these beauties:
  7. Welcome, @Rominah!
  8. Sad news from the entertainment world. Larry LaPrise, who wrote the song and dance classic 'The Hokey Pokey' is dead at 93. His funeral went off with only one hitch, while transferring Larry to his coffin, they put his left leg in, and that's when the trouble began.
  9. So you can find the "menace to society" quote floating around the internet with various ages (and even both genders) linked to it. But I couldn't find the one I heard, so I'm thinking it's a special quote known only to the select few (and I'm about to make the select few into many):
  10. UTC, perhaps? Been doling out "likes" as if you were @Sunday21, have you?
  11. Am I the only one who thinks of the Hokey Pokey every time this thread shows up in the "unread" list?
  12. There's an overabundance of women in the Church and a dearth of men. Therefore, it is only rational that they want every man who's nearing the age at which he really ought to be marrying to be in a state where he can date and then get married (missionaries can't do that). You may want to put off marriage until you're 30-something, but the Church would prefer you not wait longer than necessary. I suspect statistics show that if a man doesn't get married by age X, his probability of ever getting married starts to plummet. Meanwhile, all the expired females who didn't get married can go serve missions as they choose. My recommendation is that you look into the exception route, and if there isn't one to be found, get married before you expire, and save some single woman in the Church from expiring herself. ...can we quote Brigham Young here? Something about "over 30" and "shot" and "outer darkness by another name"?
  13. We all know he won't be using paper, so he can just hack the app and remove that hymn from his copy of the database (after every update). Alternately, he can get the paper version and ... what do they call that? ... thinking hard ... modge podge a picture of [whatever he likes] over that side of the page.
  14. Maybe you should tell her he works in a candle-testing lab.
  15. If you were in Scotland, someone would have to toss you off the nearest cliff. Maybe your ward just needs some pipes and drums ... and a brass section...
  16. I haven't been following this thread - didn't even read your entire post. "Austerity" might be what you're looking for.
  17. Not sure what cake you guys are eating, but the only coffee cake I've ever seen (granted, made at home from a recipe) doesn't have any coffee in it. My understanding is that the name is because you eat it with coffee (or not, as the case may be). It's a cake with cinnamon / sugar topping / swirl - kinda like a cinnamon roll (but different consistency).
  18. If they weren't so rare, they wouldn't be strange - they'd be...normal.
  19. Hmm. Sounds strange.
  20. And it was written in a day when if you didn't have 3 or 4 different ways to spell the same word, you were considered ignorant. I'm not going to worry about whether modern capitalization rules ought to be implying something here - especially when I'm perfectly comfortable with the implication either way. You haven't. I'm reacting to the notions, not the person who speaks them. IMO, you're too worried about words and other people's interpretations and not nearly worried enough about what the Spirit has to say about that hymn. Anyway, didn't you see my retraction? I'm with you! Yank it out! Bring on the end!
  21. Can we help it if your imagination has been formed by the wrong media? Perhaps we should see what the prophets of old think of crowns... Psalm 8 (glory and honour) Isaiah 62:3 (crown in the Lord's hand) 2 Timothy 4:8 (crown of righteousness) James 1:12 (crown of life) D&C 52:43 (crown of joy and rejoicing) etc. and so on. These verses describe the crown that Joseph Smith (and all the righteous) has / will receive, not Hollywood, not pagan imagery. Meanwhile... and And... If Abraham, then surely all the righteous who died before the Savior and thus were resurrected shortly after He was. Thus, yes, gods. The problem is not the hymn.
  22. Meanwhile, I've changed my mind. Take it out. The world will end sooner that way, and the world cannot end soon enough.
  23. Welcome, @Hannah M. Williams!
