I wonder if it was that quote that was paraphrased in a Maxx comic book issue:  "A Liberal is just a Conservative who's never been mugged."
I guess to bring this back on topic... I try to analyze all these shootings and be patient and wait for the facts to come out but... it's exhausting, and I feel overwhelmed.  It seems like every week there's a new incident and I honestly don't know if it's because it's happening more often, or if it's just always been that way and the media is reporting it more... and I don't know which one scares me the most.

I agree that you need to study the scriptures themselves and wanted to say something about that in my first post but couldn't figure out how to word what I wanted to say about the importance of it. Edspringer summed it up pretty well there. As for how to work it into your life in a maintainable way, when my grandmother was trying to build up her scripture study habit, she'd leave her scriptures open on the kitchen table or counter, where she would come across them several times a day, ready to read. Is there someplace you could leave yours that could work similarly? Or you could listen to the lds.org scripture recordings every day; that's the only way a friend of mine could find to manage it for a while. But definitely pray for guidance about the best way for you to get your scripture study in and really listen for an answer.
Edited to add that if you don't get any special impressions, get started with something you think could work.

It's been more than a year since a post, but I just came across this thread while doing some general research before performing and naming and blessing of my first child.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this actually. Both sides of the discussion are correct, because the ordinance is a plural. All of the others on the lists used are singular. They are one thing. This is a Naming AND a Blessing.

For the naming of the child you are the priesthood holder bringing the child before God to present them to Him and give them a name, so you address Heavenly Father by the authority of the Priesthood. Once the naming part is done, YOU, the Priesthood holder, give a blessing to the child as directed by the spirit, the same as any other blessing (healing, father's, etc). If it is you by yourself, it is proper to say I, if there are more in the circle, it is proper to say we as it is by the authority of the group at that point, even if you are the only one speaking.

So while it may feel weird to some to switch mid ordinance, it is because you have switched who you are talking to. For the first part you are talking TO God, for the blessing you are speaking FOR God to the child.

I hope this clarifies it a bit.

To me, the fact that Heavenly Father mainly or solely speaks directly to people on Earth in order to introduce His Son indicated that He wants us to mainly focus on Christ. But on a sort-of related point, a friend of mine and I have both felt closer to Heavenly Father than to Jesus because our prayers are directed to the Father, so we are talking to Him every day.

I don't think he changed his mind.  Rather, he acknowledges in Moses 4:2 (pre-mortal existence) that all glory that he has is the Father's.  And so on John 17:5 (mortal existence) he pleas with the Father that he may, in his mortality, still qualify for the glory which was his in pre-mortality for that which glorifies the Son glorifies the Father also.

    Hello.
Like I said in the title, I've lurked around here quite a bit already. I don't remember how long ago I first came; let's call it months. I've considered creating an account and posting a few times since then and finally did tonight in order to make a comment on another thread that I still wanted to say a while later. I'm a lifelong church member and don't really know what else to say here.

    Hi, there

We all seem to struggle with the same situation as you: study the scriptures daily. As a CES teacher I find it difficult to get our students from seminary and institute to actually study their scriptures in a daily basis. So your concern is everyone’s.

My suggestion is: find a time to study scriptures. I myself had to adapt my routine to be able to “feast upon the words of Christ” (2 Nephi 32:3). I work, prepare and teach institute classes, train church leaders, have kids and wife and have my hobbies. So, I noticed that if I didn’t get up earlier that I was used to, I wouldn’t be able to learn properly from scriptures. So, I started to get up at 5 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. and it made a huge difference. Although I started to yawn all day long (LOL), the Spirit was even stronger and I became much more inspired. The results have been great and priceless.

So, any effort on studying the scriptures daily will be greatly rewarded with an extra portion of the Spirit. Let’s remember that it’s not the number of pages you read, but the quality of your study. Once, I spent half an hour only in 1 Nephi 1:1.

Scriptures commentaries are good, but shouldn’t substitute personal daily scripture study. There are things that the Spirit will teach you personally through your personal effort to seek and find, knock and have opened, ask and receive. The commentaries of other people will only be meaningful after you have your own thoughts and impressions from the scriptures.

TIP:  put on a flesh drive conference talks, BYU education week talks and other Church audios and play them while you’re driving. It’s gonna be a blessing in your life. But have your own personal scripture study time every day, though.

The first difference I noticed was that Christ seems to be asking for glory that was His already. Satan wants to take the Father's glory.

I'm pretty sure the 1981 edition of The Book of Mormon has been censured by a few people, and maybe the 2013 one too. Looks like Sunday's wish has already come true.
