I was laughing out loud when I read this. But to clarify, my church uses those Hawaiian sweet rolls, which are delicious.

True, but I think the sacrament is not to be taken lightly. When I was young, my parents didn't let me partake of sacrament until I understood that it was more than just a snack. Jesus said, "Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me." If someone does it because it is a tasty snack, and they don't do it in remembrance of His beautiful sacrifice, is it really partaking of the sacrament? If His sacrifice is not kept in mind, there is no difference between this and a normal snack. Again, that's just my opinion. I don't think it's sinful or anything, I just think it has more meaning when you understand the significance of it.

I remember, at my church, seeing two small children reach for the bread and grape juice. After that, they turned around to their friends and said, "Did you guys get a snack?" I think kids should be old enough to understand what they are doing before partaking of the sacrament. That's just my opinion anyway.

Report Swearing Gardener on Temple Grounds
Larry Cotrell replied to Sunday21's topic in General Discussion
I've always tried to avoid swearing because it can become a bad habit and sets a bad example for my friends who aren't believers. Followers of Christ are too be the salt and light of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-16). I don't think swearing "shines the light" of Jesus. Here's what Paul said about it in Galatians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." -
Thanks for explaining

I am just wondering how a total apostasy would happen with the three Nephites and John still living and making disciples.

How to Get your Kids to Come Home for Thanksgiving
Larry Cotrell replied to Larry Cotrell's topic in Mormon Jokes
Once you've read two or three joke books you've read them all. After that they are all different forms of the same few jokes. -
After School Satan is a new club that will be opening in Elementary schools all across the country this school year. This after school club will be offered in certain schools and school districts in Georgia, California, Florida, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Missouri, Arizona, and Washington DC. Satan is continuing to infiltrate every aspect of America and needs to be stopped.

A stake president in Salt Lake calls his son in New York the day before Thanksgiving and says,"I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough." "Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams. "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the stake president says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her." Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls Salt Lake immediately, and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up. The stake president hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way." I think I should try this with my kids.

When it comes to TV shows, I like to stick to the classics. McHale's Navy always gives me a good laugh. Mister Ed is another great one. How can you beat a talking horse? The answer is you can't.

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Enough said.

Johnny Tremain is probably one of my favorites. It's about an apprentice in Boston who gets caught up in the Revolutionary War. But if you don't like historical fiction, you might not enjoy it as much as I did.

Political correctness limits what people can say. It makes it difficult for people to express how they truly feel. People should be able to say what they want to say without having to worry about offending others. This is America after all. They say they promote tolerance but they don't tolerate those who disagree with them on things like traditional marriage, abortion, and other social issues. Those who dare to speak the truth that there is a God are viewed as unintelligent and lose credibility in the eyes of the people around them. That certainly doesn't seem like tolerance to me.

Yes, I would agree that symbolism in ancient scripture can have multiple applications in modern society.

Without going into a discussion on the doctrine of modern prophets (I would be happy to discuss this but we are getting off track), I will agree with you in that it opens up a much more general question. I guess what our disagreement really comes down to is that you are viewing this through the lens of Mormon doctrine. But I am looking at precisely what Jesus said. Again, let's agree to disagree on this. The original question was about polygamy which I have already contributed my thoughts on. -

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I think that our disagreement comes down to the interpretation and context of Matthew 22:30. We will have to agree to disagree on the topic of marriage in the next life. -

Okay, point taken. I am an evangelical Christian if you really must know. However I have always been interested in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and am currently reading the Book of Mormon -

Please don't turn to ad hominem when you don't have a logical answer. I have been studying the scriptures my whole life. You and I have a difference of opinion (probably more than one). Discussing these differences is healthy for both of us. Talking about scripture helps me grow in my faith. I want to know how other people interpret the scriptures. Why else would I be on this forum? Let's learn and grow from discussion with each other rather than simply insulting each other. -

You are taking Jesus out of context when you say that what Jesus meant is that there will be no marital rites preformed in heaven. If Jesus had meant that, it would not have answered the Pharisees' question. The Pharisees did not ask if people will be married (in the sense of going through marriage ceremonies etc.) in heaven. They asked which of the marriages, if any, will continue into heaven. His answer was that there is no marriage in heaven. God created marriage so that man would have a companion (Genesis 2:18) but Revelation 7:9 says we will be surrounded by believers and angels. We will no longer need a spouse as our companion. We will have the best companion, God Himself.
