  1. I agree 100%. His arrogance has cost republicans the election.
  2. As you probably know, a video of Trump making vulgar comments was recently leaked. Because of this, he has lost a lot of support and several people have unendorsed him. After watching part of this video (censored), it doesn't seem that shocking that he said these things. I am trying to understand why this has affected his campaign so much, as he has said awful things in the past. Is anyone out there surprised by what he said in the video? Does anyone think it is shockingly uncharacteristic of him? And, does anyone think he should drop out and let Pence be the candidate because he has no chance of getting elected now?
  3. Yes, so you are saying Hindus, Christians, Muslims, etc. all worship the same God but that only Mormons have the complete picture and doctrine? I'm just trying to understand.
  4. So you believe that Muslims follow the same God, but that they don't understand him well?
  5. Do you consider Muslims followers of Christ or followers of a false Christ?
  6. This is new to me as I haven't spent much time in the JST. So to clarify, the LDS belief is that baptism was practiced before Jesus' earthly appearance?
  7. You can't beat Gandhi II. My other favorite part was when Stanley Spadowski had the kid drink out of the firehouse. I haven't seen Strange Brew though.
  8. What about raising a paw in opposition? I posted a picture of said foam paw but it didn't show up.
  9. Jesus did not have to be baptized, because He never sinned. (Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.) Jesus was baptized to set an example for us, so it didn't matter when He did it.
  10. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I haven't met any Christians that don't believe in the laying on of hands. This is something most of us evangelicals do, just to clarify. I won't get into an argument with you about Eternal progression, but what Biblical verses do you believe support this view? To say that you could become a god some day is a pretty big claim.
  11. Definitely true. There's no simpler way to put it. He does a good job as being a dictator in that he knows how to control people. But yes, he is no role model when it comes to leadership.
  12. In any case, Mike Pence did a great job last night. Tim Kaine would not stop interrupting him, which made Kaine look bad. But lets face it, the Vice President doesn't do much more than attend funerals and stand behind the president when he speaks. I, as a republican, certainly wish Pence was our candidate instead of Trump. I thought the same thing last election with Romney and Ryan. But in the last four years, Paul Ryan has changed a lot. Mike Pence won the debate but it won't change anything.
  13. UHF with "Weird Al" Yankovic Easily one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. If you haven't seen it, watch it. If you have, watch it again.
  14. Definitely, you do have to have some faith to look in the right place for answers. Also true, but I have found that many people want their religion to be true because it is the foundation of their lives. This is not always the case, but a lot of the time people look for what supports what they have believed in and based their life on because its harder to do a 180. What I mean is that because people generally want their religion to be true, they will try to find evidence to support that it is true when they doubt.
  15. Beef USA has steak conferences all over the country. I think the First Presidency and the 12 would love a good steak. I mean who wouldn't? Oh... that kind of Stake Conference, never mind
  16. Defining doubt as a feeling of uncertainty, I would say there have been times when doubt has strengthened my belief in God and thus strengthened my "faith actions." Here's an example, let's say someone is doubting that God exists. Because, they want to find the truth, they dive into the study of apologetics. This person comes out with a better understanding of logical and philosophical reasons that God exists. Thus their belief in God is strengthened. I know that the times in my life when I've doubted certain things (and we all have at some point) have been the times when I grow in my faith because my doubt causes me to study the Word of God more closely. This doesn't only apply to the big questions, like how do we know Jesus really rose from the dead. It also applies to doctrinal questions about specific things. I was going to use the example of when I doubted (had a feeling of uncertainty about) the trinity... but I won't go there. Here's my point. Doubt causes you to study and search for answers, which has a positive impact in the end.
  17. We could have a whole new show called undercover Quorum. I would definitely watch that.
  18. Thanks, I'll remember that if I'm ever in Colorado for Halloween.
  19. I would be up for a chili cook off any time of the year. I might put on black slacks, a white button-down shirt, and a tie to sneak into your ward disguised as a Mormon. ...Then I would get there, be overdressed, and stick out like a sore thumb. I guess I'll just stay home and enjoy some canned chili from Costco.
  20. First of all, the title was sarcastic to emphasize the point. I was wondering what you all think of celebrating Halloween. Growing up, my parents never let me trick-or-treat. They said that Halloween was rooted in paganism and we shouldn't celebrate it. Because of this, I've never been fond of Halloween. I don't think any less of those who do celebrate it by any means, but I've always chosen not to celebrate it. Here's an article on the roots of Jack-O-Lanterns, Trick-or-Treating and more: http://www1.cbn.com/the-pagan-roots-of-halloween I was curious how many people out there celebrate it and how many choose not to. What do you all think?
  21. One thing that I admire about the LDS church is their strong sense of community that I wish was replicated in other churches.
  22. True. And most importantly, God is watching. Proverbs 15:3 "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."
  23. I'll admit, I didn't watch general conference all day, which is probably no surprise. However, I did watch President Monson speak. I found his talk interesting. It seemed that his message was indirectly directed (if that makes sense) toward himself in the sense that he was hoping for strength. It is also interesting because he is aware that it could be his last general conference, which emphasizes his message about the Word of Wisdom more than almost anything else could. Like @Carborendum said, I wonder what the significance is behind him choosing this as one of his final messages.
  24. Thanks for posting, I am looking forward to seeing the responses.
