  1. If making fun of KISS is Church culture, I'm having my records removed.
  2. There are numerous reports of Honor Code Office supposed verification, and a very vague Tweet from BYU.
  3. A video was released today showing a supposed professor at BYU announcing to his class that due to the Handbook changes same-sex dating is now allowed on campus and is no longer an Honor Code violation. As someone not familiar with BYU or the Honor Code, thoughts? https://youtu.be/p4gTHBP-Vv4
  4. No mortal is perfect. That's why we strive to be better. Most of us are trying their best. It's called "growth" or "progression". If someone thinks they're good enough then they aren't improving.
  5. Good enough for what? You're never "good enough". That's the whole point.
  6. Any time I get a notification that @Vort quoted me I get nervous. Related, I've seen a handful of people today claiming that people need to complain more because that's what forced this policy change.
  7. Interesting. I think many Saints aren't hard enough on themselves when it comes to following the Prophet or keeping their covenants.
  8. Agreed.
  9. Me too, but I think the whole theme is to make people feel welcome, even if they can't be members or fully enjoy the gifts given of God. To me, though, changing names and pronouns seems like willful disobedience. Same with same-sex marriage.
  10. Again, with Christ-like ministering, so what? All that is doing is respecting someone's wishes on matters that have nothing to do with doctrine. I'm extremely hardline and would rather the Church not make these changes. HOWEVER, I don't disagree that they are the proper way to do things, even thought it's a hard pill for me to swallow. I think they're in line with Christ's loving ministry, and that's not easy for me to say.
  11. I don't agree with that at all. The handbook very plainly states that they oppose transitioning in any form. They also say that regardless what you call yourself, you are your birth sex. They just allow you to participate in ordinances that have nothing to do with gender. Why wouldn't they?
  12. How can you sustain and follow a modern prophet yet not care what he says?
  13. I don't think it's getting more progressive at all, although I really used to think that. I think it's getting more in tune with the letter of the law and not the perception of the law. It seems to me as though they are removing some of the restrictions that are due to the "feelings" about something and looking at it as through "does this literally violate God's law". The handbook makes NO bones about what is or isn't right. They completely shot the "well, The Proclamation says gender" in the foot.
  14. Probably. The more I read the handbook and other documents, it does seem as though things would run much smoother if the executive secretary at the very least keeps up with the schedule, given his duties on the council as well.
  15. The Stake President said his Executive Secretary runs his schedule, yet every time he's wanted to speak to me he's called me himself.
  16. Could just be due to the size of the wards, maybe? The Stake President mentioned what everyone else in this thread did, so either A: it happens and I just don't know it or B: it doesn't happen but they want it to start happening. Either of those is plausible. I was surprised that the Stake President extended the calling, not the Bishop.
  17. Thanks. I wonder if this is something the Bishop just prefers to do himself, or if they are expecting it to be put more in line with what you are all saying.
  18. Interesting. Everyone in my ward just talks to the Bishop when they want to meet with him. I've never heard that you're supposed to talk to the executive secretary first.
  19. What does one do?
  20. As I look at it, I see my entire class isn't "invited" and there are a bunch of adults that I'm not sure why they are in the circle, not that it matters in the least bit. I imagine with my age level, it will be mostly parents joining the circle.
  21. Hmmm. I suspect I'm living below my privileges as well, but I still don't have a decent understanding.
  22. Not the least bit fascinating to me.
  23. I can dislike a man and still be glad the alternative isn't in office, all while hoping someone better primaries him.
  24. His problem is he tries to win. He tries to play the political word games.
