    To Build A Fire

Hard to say without being there. Fuel with higher moisture content needs to be prepared differently, too. Particularly since you brought dry tinder with you. There are also types of fuel, like birch bark for example, that are highly flammable even when wet.

Absolutely. Half of starting a fire is knowing where to find dry stuff that burns so you can get a fire hot enough to burn the wetter things. It sounds like the guy just didn't know what he was talking about. You had everything you needed to build a fire there, in my opinion, When you said it was too wet, I thought you were trying to use a bow and spindle, which can be difficult if you've never done it before. Dry tinder with flint and steel is a good start. If nothing else, you learned how difficult it can be. With practice and someone to show you where dry fuel resides in wet climates, you'll do fine.
  3. You think gun regulations will stop that?
  4. I can't think of any restrictions I support.
  5. Exactly. Removing a single weapon from a dangerous person doesn't make people safer. If a person is so dangerous we have to remove inalienable rights, then it's the person that needs to be removed if the intent is to protect citizens.
  6. Me too. My argument isn't even that the 2nd is sacred, though. It's WHY are we removing rights from citizens? What is the intent?
  7. And that's the main reason I don't support restrictions on firearms. If the person is so dangerous they can't own a firearm, remove them from society. If they are too dangerous for a firearm, they shouldn't own a sharp stick, automobile, or steak knife either.
  8. Side story: I have a small farm, so we eat a ton of veggies and salad in season. Last week it was hot so my wife and I had salad, but we made the boys a proper dinner. We take turns saying prayer before meals, and this evening the child ended prayer with "....and Heavenly Father, I really wish I had salad instead of chicken for supper. Jesus knows I really like croutons."
  9. Hopefully, that easier pickings isn't your neighbor.
  10. Everyone once in awhile, I'm able to let a little Mormon show.
  11. The stats absolutely support that statement. Outside of the crime hot spots, we have very low violent crime spots. However, even that being correct, it doesn't negate your closing statement. I absolutely encourage people to know how to defend themselves. I carry almost everywhere. My family shoots. I'm an Endowment Life NRA Member, GOA Life Member, 2nd Amendment Foundation supporter, etc. Don't confuse my recognition of the low likelihood that my family will be the victim of violent crime with a lack of support to be prepared for ANY situation.
  12. But in my defense, even though I saw it was a troll thread I tried to put it to rest with a serious answer.

    What "supplies" did you bring?
  14. You do live in that society. Unless you're a gang banger, druggie, or live amongst them, the odds of you ever needing to defend yourself are almost non-existent.
  15. Someone take away my keyboard.
  16. This is probably the attitude you should adopt, in my opinion. People would be more receptive to it and perhaps share their own issues so you can work through them together. It certainly isn't the attitude that you've displayed in this thread. Thanks for clearing that up and changing your tone a little.

  18. You're on the road to apostasy. However, it isn't your lack of testimony that's taking you there, it's your reaction to it. Instead of accepting you don't have a testimony and can't understand how it could be true at this time, you use that as support that is false and devote your time to building up a defense of your bias. There are MANY things I don't understand. There are MANY things I don't have a testimony of and struggle with wrapping my brain around them. I accept that and assume I'll gain that testimony when the time comes. It's not something required for baptism or a temple recommend. Why would you focus on something you don't have a testimony of, to the point that you're arguing the testimony of Jesus Christ is false?
  19. Annnnnnd another troll thread. We seem to have an influx lately.
  20. I don’t know that the Church has an official position.
  21. There is a difference between not having a testimony and believing it to be false.

  23. This is why I don't think your dialog is good for investigators.
  24. Are you comparing my parents to the Apostles? Are you comparing Santa to the testimony of Jesus Christ? Are you stating the Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints would withhold or lie about the revelation of doctrine to keep the membership in line? That's dangerously close to Apostasy.
