  1. As someone who has never done home teaching or had a home teacher, here is my understanding on ministering. I won't be the slightest bit offended when you tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. We are to look after each other. As @person0 stated, I am my brother's keeper. With Home Teaching, there were stricter requirements and a larger expectation from both parties. A time was set. Companions and families had to coordinate a decent sized chunk of time. Lessons were involved. People knew what it entailed, particularly those who were fallen or falling from the church. With ministering, our requirements are to meet the needs of the families we minister, whatever they may be. Just be friends with your families. Some people aren't going to be receptive to a lesson. Maybe they need wood stacked. Maybe they need a babysitter so they can have time alone. Maybe they don't want anything to do with the church and your responsibility is to just be a friend to them. Removing some of the structure allows you to serve your families how they need to be served.
  2. Well, except for the fact that Apostles have specifically stated we can't drink coffee and haven't said anything about high heels. Why would you rather your daughter DEFINITELY sin, rather than do something you believe may be a sin, but likely isn't?
  3. You’re using rare, outlying examples that invoke sympathy in an attempt to justify a more common norm.
  4. That's what my boys wear here in the northeast, too.
  5. I'm glad my wife didn't realize that.
  6. Apps can be very costly. Often it's easier to configure a site to work with an existing forum app like tapatalk. I realize this doesn't answer your question, though. As someone who has an app, I'm just providing insight.
  7. Perhaps go read the thread again where we beat it to death, rather than dragging this one off-topic. Just a suggestion.
  8. Maybe if you weren't so antagonistic and were interested in having an intellectual conversation. You obviously aren't one of the least worst offenders.
  9. Why does it seem odd? There is a difference between "can" and "will".
  10. I'm not entirely sure what you are saying here. Everyone faces temptations. I don't know a single natural man who doesn't. Some temptations are easier to control than others. When I speak of the Law of Chastity, and I may be way off on this, I speak of the physical acts. Even though in Matthew we learn that lustful thoughts lead to transgressions of the heart, most of what is taught refers to the physical transgressions. I imagine we all succumb to inappropriate thoughts at times and struggle with resisting vanity. However, we are specifically warned in teachings about the physical sins in the Law of Chastity. THOSE are conscious decisions when they are broken.
  11. Just because you break the Law of Chastity doesn't mean everyone does. I certainly don't.
  12. When you have to explain most of your posts as "I'm not condoning this behavior, but..." or "I'm not wishing to sound rebellious, but....." you're probably off the reservation.
  13. President Spencer W. Kimball explained, “There must be works with faith. How foolish it would be to ask the Lord to give us knowledge, but how wise to ask the Lord’s help to acquire knowledge, to study constructively, to think clearly, and to retain things that we have learned” (Faith Precedes the Miracle [1972], 205; italics in original). President Kimball said: “In faith we plant the seed, and soon we see the miracle of the blossoming. Men have often misunderstood and have reversed the process.”
  14. There is a spot of land down the road from me for sale.
  15. I'm a grunt. I want to break things that annoy me.
  16. I know. I'm just new in my journey. I'd love to find a place where that just isn't allowed. We don't allow apostasy in the Temples. We expect reverence in our meeting houses. I guess I'd just make a horrible moderator as I'd be really quick with the ban hammer to create what I consider a good environment, even though others may think otherwise.
  17. I put him on ignore. That's the first time I've used that feature here.
  18. Good for you. Add it to the list of things you are wrong about.
  19. Your use of force to remove my rights doesn't negate their existence.
  20. Sure. And some think rocks talk to them. They are wrong, too.
  21. I don’t live in a democracy. We have a constitution. You also don’t need to establish an existence of God to have inalienable rights. They exist as a result of my existence, however I got here. Absolutely. That’s why a State has no business removing your ability to preserve your life. That’s the ultimate tyranny. Untrue. When you intentionally choose topics intending to provoke or choose words that generally result in a negative response you’re a troll. You Sir, are a troll. You come on an LDS page and start a string of topics that generally invoke a negative response and use insulting language. Your intent here is to stir things up. You do so will feigning innocence. I’d have banned you from the start. Your net contribution is negative. You won’t last long.

Probably not. Pine needles are ok, but the feeder twigs burn faster and hotter. Next time I'm in Houston I'll let you know.
