  1. Not only that but he predicted the church would be self-sustaining enough that the members would not be tithed anymore. That is interesting when contrasted with the recent WSJ article on the ensign peak find where the fund manager commmented that he felt the church concealed the fund from the members so they would still tithe as seeing the massive wealth might make them change their minds.
  2. It is virtue signaling when you post it here publicly. It ceases to remain private once posted and polled about on a forum.
  3. So now I’m pushing the gay agenda?
  4. Your reeeeing will pass soon. Funny how this meme matches your avatar.
  5. Sounds more like you are being triggered being called out on pharisaic nonsense. Yea I totally feel diminished by someone’s talk.. you’re killing me here. As for the charter school like dress code. Yea I think people should be able to wear whatever they want. If it was so important the chapel couldn’t be desecrated by a pants wearing woman or a deacon wearing a nice colored shirt then we need to place the uniform cops at the doors and never let them in. The church even says it isn’t mandatory so why do we spend so much time treating the situation otherwise? Because that is how we Mormons visually display to our peers that we are at least as or more righteous than they are. Hi. This context we could replace righteous with perhaps unquestioning obedience even if the leadership states alternatives. it is all about image. Why do we have to list our religious resumes like Eagle Scout, young women’s award, mission, temple, sealing x type callings? And don’t tell me people don’t do that . To tell everyone we checked the boxes is why. It isn’t any real measure of someone’s righteousness but it is the yardstick we tend to use and many of our leaders use that same metric as well.
  6. What is going on around me is some guy polling who is wearing white shirts and ties in the home for sacrament. Sounds like virtue signaling to me along the same lines nibley speaks of. Next are we going to poll to find out how many hymns were sung, if we knelt instead of sit to pray, stayed in church clothes all day, who gave a talk? Give me a break.
  7. This guy hit the nail on the head with this quote from a 1973 lecture that Nibley gave at BYU, later reprinted in the collection, What is Zion? Joseph Smith Lecture Series 1972-73. …the worst sinners, according to Jesus, are not the harlots and publicans, but the religious leaders with their insistence on proper dress and grooming, their careful observance of all the rules, their precious concern for status-symbols, their strict legality, their pious patriotism. Longhairs, beards, and necklaces, LSD and rock, Big Sur and Woodstock, come and go, but Babylon is always there: rich, respectable, immovable… We want to be vindicated in our position and to know that the world is on our side as we all join in a chorus of righteous denunciation; the haircut becomes the test of virtue in a world where Satan deceives and rules by appearances.
  8. Is a white shirt or tie required? Either at home or at church?
  9. I am already seeing fellow members on fb lamenting losing tons of pay as school is not in session and they have to stay home from their jobs to care for their kids. Most have very little if any vacation or sick time and both parents have to work. A daycare at the church would be awesome.
  10. It obviously did come fro the first pres. If takes an act of congress and is prefty much i possible to get permission to do at scout or girls camp, so naturally blanket authorization for pretty much any preisthood holder came from the top given the widespread nature of this. I have family members on the other side of the country who have been directed to do the same thing. Except, well witha million variations and stndarss just like what has already been shared on this thread.
  11. Kinda hard to understand when even our neghbors a block away in a different stake have been given totally different instructions as to how to do it and we are under the same area authority. My stake pretty much any priest can do it even if there is no melchezedic in the home. Way different than needing a temple recommend and melchezedic priesthood as well.
  12. If you think this wasnt auth by the first presidency you are crazy. Worldwide sps do not get to just blanket auth the entire stake to do sacrament on their own terms. Perhaps they were given discretion as to when to pull the trigger but this is quite obviously authorized by the first presidency.
  13. There is absolutely no consistency in how this thing has been rolled out. Obviously either the 1st pres failed in delivering adequate instructions or we have a church full of leaders doing their own thing. Our stake has already been permitted to do sacrament every week and so long as there is a priest in the home, the sacrament may be administered. No mention of worthiness, recommends etc. Of course no recommend is required to administaer the sacrament anyway so just curious why some SPs are making up new standards. An interesting tangent, my nextdoor neighbor who is in my ward has had a raging bbq and party going on since about 8am beginning with a pancake breakfast for the entire extended family. The grills are going right now with the music kicking and never ending game of horseshoes going on. And to think they made sure to let me know a few months ago they saw me bringing in a gallon of milk to the house I obviously just purchased on a sunday lol. Their kids are going to hate going back to church if this keeps up much longer.
  14. See my response to vort. It is right there in front of you.
  15. Akin to death row inmates. You mean murderers? There is like virtually nothing else that will get you on death row except murder and perhaps the random treason case. I invite you to read page 36 and tell me where they state masturbation isnt included in the sins next to murder. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/ForTheStrengthOfYouth-eng.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjGnPfyweTnAhVsCTQIHXVQALMQFjAAegQIBBAC&usg=AOvVaw0FbP7O_GM0pydlf9vY7APk
  16. It is allegedly true and yes it is taught to be next to murder. At least in the past it was. I have not sat in a young mens quorum in over 20 years so I have no idea what is taught now. Since doctrine never ever changes I imagine it is still taught. Im pretty sure it really isnt that bad as I can imagine many things worse, but that would be just an opinion and we know what value opinions hold.
  17. Im not concerned about it, just positing a theory. Thanks for the video though.
  18. I imagine more would be more open about it if it was not regarded in seriousness next to MURDER. Pointing out you are almost as bad as these guys on death row probably is among the reasons anyone much less the youth are reluctant to confess to masturbation.
  19. he has a point in terms of affinity fraud- we (Mormons) have earned the suspicion https://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/beware-of-affinity-fraud https://universe.byu.edu/2014/06/16/affinity-fraud-continues-to-plague-utahns-and-mormons/ https://www.mormonnewsroompg.org/official-statement/affinity-fraud I'll add Primerica and Transamerica reps selling annuities and excessively high commission mutual funds. Biggest ripoff ever.
  20. Our own church has made this error - "Baseball baptisms." I am speaking to the social aspect of it all
  21. Working till you die? Most get sick, disabled etc and don't work for 10-20 yrs before they die. That is the problem. At that point someone else (usually relatives) has to pay the difference until you die. A family member of ours never saved any money and now in their golden years we have to help pay for medical stuff because they have no savings to live off of. I agree with the cost of living. I rarely have a retiree living off much less than they previously earned unless their home is payed off. Generally they have Soc Sec between $1800-$2200 per month and then they subsidize with their savings.
