Yes, your screaming was rather illuminating.

My understanding is a local council did promote a Planned Parenthood event, though it sounds like it was an advertising thing as neither money nor scouts were sent to Planned Parenthood, but there is not a national tie between Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood. I don't know how common Parent Parenthood and local council ties are, I'm mostly going off Wiki and the Girl Scout FAQ.

Your post gave no indication that your daughter is wondering why she can't be a Girl Scout as part of Church.
-
So because you left out important details you're yelling at me?
-
There is no member prohibition on being in Girl Scouts, so that question is solidly aimed at her parents, so go ahead and tell her why you won't let her be in Girl Scouts (assuming the organization itself isn't refusing her).

You'd have to be able to quantify pain and suffering somehow, keeping in mind that we're talking about what is experienced and not necessarily some objective external measure. And then being able to quantify pain and suffering compare it. For example, how much pain and suffering does God experience, and how much does Satan experience, which is the greater amount? To be perfectly clear I don't think the question is a stupid one, I just think it is unanswerable in a meaningful way with the knowledge we posses. That said I do find the implications of your parting question interesting. That while we may be inclined to think of exaltation as an end of all sorrow, if we take the scriptures like Moses 7:28 at face value then it is reasonable to suppose that not all sorrow ends. I think the end to our sorrow with exaltation will be akin to the promise given to the three Nephites in 3 Nephi 28:29, our worldly sorrows will be done away with but we'll still sorrow over the sins of the world.

JAG mentioned vaccinations (and on this board at least that is where big pharma tends to enter the scene but my memory may be messing with me). -

Let me help: Caffeine, medical marijuana, obesity, women wearing pants at church, women and the priesthood, blacks and the priesthood, gay marriage, Obamacare, temple vs. civil marriage, tithing financial transparency, and sex offenders at church. Let's hope I didn't just break the internet. -

It doesn't change my response as you maintain the point of your phrasing. I responded because of how I perceived you were going about making your point, not out of particular interest in your overall point. In short, while skimming my logical fallacy-dar pinged. I take you at your word that you weren't meaning to present a false dichotomy. *shrug* -

Asking which is better, A or B, is a curious way to point out that B can occur without A. I'll take your word for it, but I'd reconsider using that particular way of making that particular point in the future. -

So... Given that you couldn't care less what laws the government decides to pass are we to take the, immediately, above as completely devoid of conviction? Are you not in the right place committed to doing the right thing with others who are doing so? Or, the most likely in my mind, are we engaging in a wee bit of hyperbole? -
Angel, your post brings to mind this post of mine, it is in response to the topic of asking for blessings but I think it is reasonably relevant here: http://www.lds.net/forums/learn-about-mormon-church/45540-what-blessings-do-we-deserve-them.html#post658926 The short version: We can expect blessings, but when we start expecting blessings to come in a certain form when they aren't specified to come in such a form we run into problems.

I can't say I've ever felt my life is harder because of low flow toilets. -
I've found it helpful to talk about the temple not in terms of worthiness, which usually raises peoples hackles, but rather in terms of preparedness to make and keep covenants (within the context of the temple they are the same thing but I suppose the branding matters for those who don't understand that). It also tends to ameliorate people's feelings when you point out not all Mormons are prepared to enter the temple. When people understand it is like wanting to attend graduate school when you haven't even started high school and not, "You aren't part of our super cool club so you can't use the tree house." They tend to react better. Though there are people who are going to have a conniption regardless and that is the point where you just need to let them own their feelings, and if she's been nursing a grudge for a while it may be long past reasoned discourse.

Or it could be the result of individuals considering the intent and purpose of the Word of Wisdom and trying to extrapolate the principles they see there. There is nothing about the position, one I don't hold for the record, that requires self-righteousness. Now are there individuals who are self-righteous over the issue? Certainly, but it isn't a given that such is the case. There is room for earnest effort even if we disagree with the conclusion people are reaching.

Tithing is not a subscription paid for access to Church faculties and services. You are not spending your money on anything by paying tithing, you are not a customer of the Lord or his Church. The Lord, through his Church, is spending his money on things. Money paid in tithing no longer belongs to us, this fundamental point seems to be something you are having a hard time internalizing.

Keep in mind a lot of members don't find most TV shows appropriate. I know there are many a network television show (so not even a premium cable channel) that I consider inappropriate for one reason or another and I'm not exactly strict (compared to other members) in my viewing habits. If you know for a fact that ancillary aspects of the show aren't the reason the Mormons you know aren't watching the show then I'd probably put it in the, "Not interested in the subject matter and premise." That was the/a big finale though, or is my memory failing me? If it was the finale that would explain why members jumped ship, or won't watch it now, but it doesn't really explain why none of them (which is probably not true, I'm sure some LDS somewhere watched it) picked it up in the first place. Honestly, the fact that it was on HBO, a premium channel, that isn't exactly known for producing squeaky clean shows probably didn't help with members picking it up in the first place.

I doubt that's a concern. Most are more likely not interested in the show because they aren't interested in its content, both the main premise and things such as sexuality, rather than being afraid that watching the show is going to form some sort of link between LDS and polygamy.

It's a unit with a specific definition. This does not mean that all sources of calories are identical, thus:
-
It is variable depending on body size and activity level among other things. All calories are the same. A calorie is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1 degree Celsius (A Calorie, note the capitalization, is 1000 calories). The big thing is that our bodies don't react to all sources of calories the same, in particular satiation differs between foods.
