First Presidency Clarifies Church Handbook Changes
cdowis replied to pam's topic in Church News and Events
This is true, and to add to your comment, policies are also based on revelation. As circumstances change, so also those policies could change. But we are bound by these policies and to support our leaders as prophets, seers and revelators. Christ gave us the guiding principle Matt 10 [35] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. [36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. [37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. And this IS revelation. -
Help with a question - why do we need a savior?

You may find this analogy helpful. -
Entry to the Celestial Kingdom requires making and keeping covenants which are administered with ordinances. The basic difference between the "good people" in the terrestrial (also known as "heaven") and those in the celestial kingdom. Both have done good works of righteousness, but what separates them is whether they accept the ordinances for exaltation. They have been offered the baptism ordinance, but they rejected it, along with the other ordinances.

CRITIC Regarding policy of children of same sex marriage and the requirements for baptism as "cruel and unChristlike", etc etc RESPONSE And you would judge Christ Himself. Matt 10 [35] For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. [36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. [37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Luke 9 [59] And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. [60] Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. [61] And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. [62] And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

CRITIC As far as I know, he was never convicted of theft. He was merely arrested at least 42 times and brought to justice for, among other things, disorderly conduct, illegal banking, conspiracies to murder, banking fraud, threats, treason and perjury. But not theft, no. RESPONSE How very very clever you are. You could have truthfully said that he had been "accused and found innocent" of these charges. But you have practiced and perfected the techniques of hate mongering to engender hatred, but pretending to be just an innocent observer. With a smarmy smile, "I didn't say he was actually convicted of these things." You really ought to get into politics. I understand they are looking for people with your talents.

Anti-Mormonism and the Seven-Step Hate Model

CRITIC We know 99% of the laws of nature. The creation of the universe is known and there is no need for a creator. RESPONSE The standard Big Bang model tells us that the Universe exploded out of an infinitely dense point, or singularity. But nobody knows what would have triggered this outburst: the known laws of physics cannot tell us what happened at that moment. “For all physicists know, dragons could have come flying out of the singularity,” says Niayesh Afshordi, an astrophysicist at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Canada. It is also difficult to explain how a violent Big Bang would have left behind a Universe that has an almost completely uniform temperature, because there does not seem to have been enough time since the birth of the cosmos for it to have reached temperature equilibrium. To most cosmologists, the most plausible explanation for that uniformity is that, soon after the beginning of time, some unknown form of energy made the young Universe inflate at a rate that was faster than the speed of light. That way, a small patch with roughly uniform temperature would have stretched into the vast cosmos we see today. But Afshordi notes that “the Big Bang was so chaotic, it’s not clear there would have been even a small homogenous patch for inflation to start working on”. http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2015/02/-the-big-bang-was-a-mirage-from-a-collapsing-higher-dimensional-star.html

Are you going to answer my first question?

You got it. "Ope borders" has nothing to do with compassion, but with POWER.

Look, don't even bother to try. Anyway, so you have no problem with a universe that is only 14 billion years old. I have a hard time reconciling that with the concept that it is eternal. In your view, did the Big Bang also create our spirit beings and the eternal Plan of Salvation? This was all based on a throw of the dice? Hawking asks Dawkins a question about the creation of the universe and the development of life. Listen carefully to the discussion. https://youtu.be/CMJFfaKZXRs?t=30s Basically they both admit that there are only two possibilities -- a divine Creator, or........

It's a parody. "Everyone" on Capital Hill knows that he is Mormon, and he has talked about that several times. In fairness to him, he says that he is NOT pro-abortion, but wants to make sure that the Republicans don't use this as a "wedge issue". There is a thread on this subject.

CRITIC The Bible tells us, etc etc The Greek sez... (another response to this argument) RESPONSE Thanks for sharing with us your personal opinions on what the Bible teaches. Perhaps you are unaware, but the reality is that there are other Bible scholars and theologians who disagree with you. Even the ones who have studied Greek!! So it is very instructive to see that these theologians and philosophers debate among themselves even on basic salvation doctrines such as grace vs faith, and the necessity of baptism for salvation. They write text books, they publish articles in scholastic journals their differing opinions. Perhaps you should get a PhD in theology to increase your credibility in the exegesis of the Bible. This is the model of the scribes and Pharasees -- no prophets, just the wisdom of man. It is for this reason that the Lord restored His church and the Gospel by calling a prophet in our day.

No, that is an "alternative universe". Same universe, mirror images but some differences depending on the roll of the dice. The parallel universe is.... well, think of it as the apartment building down the street from us. In this case, we are only aware of our own building. We are familiar with our building, there is no exits from the building or windows. So, as far as we can tell, it's the only one around. We are unaware of "the street", so to speak, so we have no way of knowing about the other buildings.

"War" What is the ultimate goal of war? To invade another country, which means that the border no longer exists for the safety and benefit of the citizens of that country. The invaders take control of critical functions of the government. This is the WHAT of war. The HOW many take on many forms, but the result is still the same. Trying to conquer it with superior armed forces is very expensive and inefficient. If you work from within, take down the borders, weaken the military and the local law enforcement, allow a wholesale invasion of "immigrants" with absolutely no controls on who is entering the country -- well, folks, that is very inexpensive and highly efficient on how to invade a country. The internal invader uses platitudes to justify what you are doing, but the result is the same. This is a "peaceful" invasion. and while this is happening, the majority of the citizens are bought off with free stuff, not realizing the eroding of their freedoms as the price for all this free stuff. At least, until the well runs dry, but it is then too late. The "free stuff" and "we are in control, so do what we say" leaders are now running the country with the support of the "immigrants" because the election laws are weakened or ignored. They are given a free pass to vote. I know, sounds impossible, sounds insane, doesn't it. It just can't happen because.... well..... uhhhh.... ...cough....

No, I haven't. But not for a lack of trying. +++++++++++++++ Anyway, this is lots of fun -- divide them up into small groups. The "designated person" then tells five things about themselves, but one of them is fiction. The group tries to guess which one was a lie. The other way to play it is to have someone write on a paper four true things about themselves that the others would not know. The "group moderator" then reads the description and the group tries to guess which one in the group it describes. The written papers should be prepared in advance and given to the moderator so that she can pick the most interesting ones. Both of these are very bonding and you learn about each other. this would probably work best with the RS sisters, considering their life experiences are so varied.

Let me ask you something. How are YOU able to reconcile the Big Bang with LDS theology that the universe is eternal, as well as the creation process? Anyway, I don't get offended, except for those who make the mistake of considering my brilliant insights as being "shallow" -- just tell me that you think I am wrong. I remember once when I thought that I was indeed wrong about something. But I later found out that I was actually correct. So my "wrongness" was rather short lived. I try to make sure that doesn't happen again.

In my discussions on the internet, I don't call anyone an antiMormon unless that is their profession. If someone "sounds" like one, I just point out, "the antiMormons have poisoned your mind." It's not their fault, because the antiMormons have brainwashed them. Once you label them, then they are less likely to move in another direction -- they actually become what you label them. But I'm less generous with those who make money with their hate mongering.

This multiverse model answers the objection that the universe is finite -- that it had a finite history.

Now that I am retured, I ffind alot of time to do family history and temple work for my ancestors. I've done about all that I can on my direct line, so working on parallel lines (cousins). I go to family search, and bring up one of the older census records. Working on the 1900 census, since everyone would fall under the 110 year rule. Since most of my relatives have unusual surnames, and lived pretty much in the same area for over a century, I just take everyone who is in a particular county. Familysearch has a tool where you can directly transfer the complete family record (eg census record) to family search without writing anything down.

An astrophysicist says he may have found evidence of alternate or parallel universes by looking back in time to just after the Big Bang more than 13 billion years ago. While mapping the so-called "cosmic microwave background," which is the light left over from the early universe, scientist Ranga-Ram Chary found what he called a mysterious glow, the International Business Timesreported. Chary, a researcher at the European Space Agency's Planck Space Telescope data center at CalTech, said the glow could be due to matter from a neighboring universe "leaking" into ours, according to New Scientist magazine. "Our universe may simply be a region within an eternally inflating super-region," scientist Chary wrote in a recent study in the Astrophysical Journal. "Many other regions beyond our observable universe would exist with each such region governed by a different set of physical parameters than the ones we have measured for our universe," Chary wrote in the study. While the findings sound promising and have already gained the attention of other astronomers, as Russia Today (RT) reported, it could be quite complicated to verify, since the Planck telescope provides limited data for further study. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/sciencefair/2015/11/03/alternate-universes-discovered/75102502/

Clearing up misconceptions: Galatians1 6-9 VS TBOM

"bad bad Byron" But your response will be read by others. When I do my youtube apologetics, even though it appears that I am addressing "bad Byron", I am actually talking to those other readers who may have an open mind. So I talk to him as he were willing to listen, just for the sake of the other readers. -
