  1. There is a difference between choosing not to go on a mission, and not being able to go on a mission. Either way, you can’t change the past, go to church, pray, and ask out as many girls as you can, one of them is bound to say, “Yes.”
  2. Here are some web sites with information about Buddhism: http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/index.htm http://www.buddhanet.net/ The last sentence of the 13th article of the Articles of Faith says: ‘If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.’ I feel this means learning about other faiths, even non-Christian faiths. Find all the virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy things in all faiths and bring it home. As another post said, these non-Christian faiths are more Christian than most Christians are.
  3. I think that there is going to a point where a song of ALL the prophets would be not possible. Children used to memorize where all the temples were, now with well over one hundred, it is impossible to memorize half of the places.
  4. Steven Spielberg, and any other powerful movie producer, so they can make positive movies about the church. Ted Turner, so he can force all the media that he owns to make reports and other positive programs about the church. The Pope, the Dali Lama, and all other leaders of other faiths All Kings, Queens, Presidents, and other world leaders. If you haven’t guessed, I live in Utopia, Zion, or whatever you would like to call paradise.
  5. I want to make this clear. The covenant of polygamy is between one man with multiple wives, the first wife had the say on if, and whom, the husband is to marry. A woman cannot have multiple husbands. Today if your wife dies, a man can marry another woman in the temple, but for a woman, if her husband dies, she cannot marry another man in the temple, she can marry someone else in a civil marriage. In all these cases, both the man and the woma(e)n need to be worthy. I’m still not sure what happens if one is still worthy but the other is not. For an example, if a man is worthy of the Celestial Kingdom, but his wife is not, will a worthy woman be ‘given to him’ or will he be able to choose? The same question aplys to a woman; if her husband is not worthy of the Celestial Kingdom, will she be ‘given to another’ or will she have a choice? Will all worthy women without worthy husbands be given to leaders of the Church, like I keep hearing from anti sources?
  6. This is the Fair Wiki web address: http://en.fairmormon.org/Main_Page
  7. Here is the online Catholic encyclopedia: http://www.catholicity.com/encyclopedia/; it is a great source of what Catholics believe.
  8. Is it just me, or does this prophecy sound like the church, will overthrow the Government?
  9. Would you let your spouse, or one of your children, go to another religious church? How about another faith all together; like if he or she goes to a Buddhist temple, or a Jewish synagogue; or become a Muslim? I would, however I would tell him or her, my beliefs and tell them that I don’t agree with their beliefs, yet I would never disown them, and I would even drive them, or make sure that they have a way to get to their place of worship.
  10. Here is a study system that is mainly for scripture study, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be used for other forms of study: 1. Memorize what you need to know. 2. Review it twice a day for a week. 3. Review once a day for a week. 4. Review twice a week for one month. 5. Review once a week for one month. 6. Review twice a month for two months. 7. Review once a month for six months. 8. Review once every six months for a year. 9. Review once a year for life.
  11. There are a few things people need to think about. First is to find out what you buy the most of, then to bring a calculator, a pencil, and a notebook, to some local stores in the area. This way you can write down, not only prices of food, and other things, but also what they are per ounce (per item, or whatever it is). After you do this, find out what store will give you the over all best deal, look at local newspapers for specials, it could save you a lot of money, like Pam did. Second is to really find out if the warehouse stores, like Sam’s Club, or Costco, are better deals then supermarkets; sometimes they are not. Do you really need 100 rolls of toilet paper? A five-gallon jar of peanut butter, ranch, or a 50-100 pound bag of sugar or flower? Not only that, but do you have the space for such items? Be careful of buying foods that need to be refrigerated or be in the freezer, again, do you have the space, or like some people had to do, throw it away?
  12. Here is a recipe book that the church made up, it has good recipes for basic food commodities, such as those in bishops’ storehouses. http://www.ldscatalog.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10151&productId=39247&langId=-1&sortId=3&sortOr=1&sTerm=Deseret&sNVPs=%26beginIndex%3D0%26pageSize%3D200%26searchTerm%3DDeseret%26searchType%3DALL%26sType%3DSimple%26pageId%3D1%26pageCt%3D15&retURLtext=Back%20to%20'Deseret'%20Search&retURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ldscatalog.com%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2FCatalogSearchResultView%3FcatalogId%3D10151%26amp%3BstoreId%3D10151%26amp%3BlangId%3D-1%26beginIndex%3D0%26pageSize%3D200%26searchTerm%3DDeseret%26searchType%3DALL%26sType%3DSimple%26pageId%3D1%26pageCt%3D15%26sortId%3D3%26sortOr%3D1

I have to wonder if any men still tried to get a date with someone at the Humane society.
  14. Darwinism is a religion. If you don’t think so, think about this: Einstein was forced to recant his theory that the universe was expanding, not because there was no evidence it was, but because all the other scientists BELIEVED that the universe was static (or was always one size, and always will be one size). Alternatively, how about the Big Bang theory, it took scientists a long time to accept it, with mounting evidence scientists were forced to accept it. Why did it take them such a long time to accept the Big Bang theory? Simple, it would force scientists to say there was a start of the universe, which would mean they would be extremely close to saying that there was a God. This movie didn’t ask the question, but I will; what if God is Nature? Several Eastern religions believe that God is in all nature, and if you take a close look at Darwinism, this is what they believe as well, without God, of course. Science knows how perfect nature is, but they don’t want you to realize it. They will gloss over the evidence, as they did in the movie, making the average person not realize that there is more than one theory of the start of life, and to other major theories. People want a simple answer, and one answer, and the scientists are more than happy to give us just that. Religion has its share of Martyrs, but so does Science, Galileo is one off the top of my head. Religious martyrs are understandable, but why does science have theirs? Faith=Theory Theory=Faith
  15. I’ve never heard of un-marked garments, there might be LDS modest clothing stores that sell something similar to what you’re saying. Why should only Temple-endowed members be modest? Why can’t new members or members that can’t go to the temple be modest as well?
  16. Some missions are letting missionaries use e-mail, you will need to check with the Mission President to be sure.
  17. I watched the movie I really liked it. It makes you question why does scientists still take Darwin’s words gospel when we have found out so much about life, like DNA, and according to the movie, we have found out a tremendous amount more about cells, I have to wonder how Darwin would think, if he lived today.
  18. Was Emma an elect lady? She stayed with Joseph though thick and thin; she stayed with him long after most everyone had left, including some apostles, yet in the end she stayed when the command was to move on. Was David a good person, or a bad person? He was the Lord’s anointed, he was king over the house of Judah, and unanimously chosen king by all the tribes of Israel, yet he lusted after Bathsheba, and then killed Uriah to have her. Was Moses a great prophet? He led the Israelites out of Israel; got the Ten Commandments from the hand of God, yet because of his sins, he was not able to see the Promised Land. Noah, with his wife and children built the Ark, got animals on it, and by doing so saved all land life, yet according to Genesis 9:21 he got drunk, was he good or bad? I think people immortalize people, remembering what they want, and forgetting what they don’t want to remember. Everyone sins, even prophets. I like the story of David, he committed a huge sin, he tried to repent for the rest of his life, in some of the Psalms you can ‘hear’ his torture, his story gives a realism to the scriptures that stories of people doing what is right ALL the time, never breaking any commandment, like the story of the City of Enoch does not do. Most Christians remember David only for killing Uriah, yet most Jews remember David for uniting Israel. This just shows how different people can have two different views on the same person.
  19. I agree with jolee but I, personally, would like to know everything about my wife, the good, the bad, and even the ugly. I would in return share with her. Even if your sin were before your marriage, if it is unresolved, I would talk to the Bishop and to my wife, not because I would feel I was forced to, but because I want to because I love her.
  20. Sad to say there are missionaries that are too anxious for an investigator to be baptized that some of the most important questions are missed or haven‘t been completely resolved, like whether or not they smoke, drink alcohol, coffee or tea. I have seen several people that have said that they have quit smoking, but in fact, they are still smoking; it only feels that they have stopped since they have reduced their intake from 2 packs a day, to 2 cigarettes a day. Then there are sins that are illegal, like stealing, murder, rape, and any other illegal activity that, when asked, most people won’t admit it. Not very many people like being caught; they want a safe place to confess without repenting, our church does not do this. Bishops, and missionaries, are required to report illegal confessions to the police if the person does not go first.
  21. There are four major things you need to do to decide on whether or not you should get married (not necessarily in order): Fast; fast separately and together Pray; pray separately, and together Talk to your Bishop, and have your fiancée talk to his/her Bishop, and if possible talk to one of your Bishops together, have ‘pre-marriage’ counseling so you can avoid marriage counseling. Talk to your fiancée. This step is one that no other post mentioned at all, but it is one of the most basic, and necessary steps you need to take. Ask him/her what do you want to do if we have a child? Stay in school, stay on the job, or quit? Find out where he/she stands on such issues. Lack of commutation and immaturity are major reasons for divorce, not age. Marriage counseling gets a bad rep since people only goes there when something is bad enough that divorce is very close to becoming a reality. However, that shouldn’t be the case. Why not talk out your feelings to each other in marriage counseling BEFORE it gets that bad?
  22. “Where do you get this information that he was possibly facing an excommunication?” Quoted from Elphaba. Well for one reason, media is one of, if not, the biggest forms of influence there is. A few independent Mormon liberal magazines have a history where some of the writers have been threatened with, and even were, excommunicated.
  23. PMG= Preach My Gospel I feel that different ways to study is good, I know since I’ve read the scriptures different ways, I’ve read it all the way though, I’ve read the institute manuals, then read the sections of the scriptures that they described, then I also listened to the scriptures while reading them. I’ve also read the scriptures looking for something; topic; the ‘bigger pitcher’ (which I mean the long story arc, like the ‘pride cycles’ in the Book of Mormon)
  24. The Church encourages people to build up food storage, look at the official site for more information: http://www.providentliving.org/channel/1,11677,1706-1,00.html I’m surprised that with all this encouragement to build up a food supply that there is no information on how to prepare the food. Don’t forget that it’s the era of instant food, we have microwaves, prepared foods, and the meaning, for some people, of cooking ‘from scratch’ is to bake a cake with the boxed pre-made ingredients.
  25. Is it by works or by grace, this question keeps coming up over and over again. I think this is because people don’t understand salvation. What would you understand salvation to mean? Being resurrected? Well everyone that has ever lived on earth meets this definition of salvation. Jesus Christ died so that everyone would be resurrected. Being with God? Do you consider keeping the commandments as works? How about being a good person? Or just being moral? When asked what commandment was the greatest, Jesus compacts the Ten Commandments into two: Love God, and love thy neighbor as thy self. Every person that says that only grace saves admits at some point that you need to do something. This is the biggest reason that I say that it is both. I can’t say this more clear than this; is doing what God wants works?
