  1. Welcome to the boards... :)
  2. Thanks Heather, I thought that was an awesome video.
  3. This is my personal opinion and I have to say that I haven't read all the previous posts so if I copy something someones else has already said, I'm sorry :) We read in the scriptures in several places that individuals fasted until they received an answer to their question. As long as your health will permit, I think you can fast until you feel you have receive the answer that you need or desire. Just remember that you might not always like the answer you get. :)
  4. Goof, Alma teaches his son very well on this topic, I believe its chapter 40.... Check it out
  5. Deb, I would find out more about DNA if I were you and make your own decision. Most of the videos floating around now have a bias to them that cloud the actual facts. So do yourself a favor and find the actual truth for yourself. Best wishes and welcome to the site.
  6. Looking back on my life and on the lives of my children, I wish I had been more involved with their lives. Some of their choices are unfortunate to say the least, and when I give my opinion now, well the fight begins. It would have been easier if I had been involved earlier in their lives. But that happens sometimes when you have a split family. All I can do now is try to be a good example and give advise when asked. :)
  7. I left the church 20+ years ago because of the way I was treated and I didn't have any friends here. It has been talked about in my family many times that if we would have stayed in the mission field most of us never would have fallen away. We need to remember that the gospel is true even if some of the people in the church makes us want to pull our hair out :) Yes, you are usually only a day away or even a prayer away, if you want to look at it like that. We need to follow the counsel that has been given to us time and time again, yet we seem to think that it doesn't apply to "us". Pray and study the scriptures and pray!!

  9. Obviously this wasn't as interesting as I had thought....
  10. Aaaallllooooohhhaaa.... :) Welcome to the boards..
  11. After reading the last few posts in the Anti-Mormon thread, I found this blog particulary interesting. I hope that you enjoy it also. By Common Consent How Do We Contend Without Being Contentious?
  12. Welcome to the boards
  13. Welcome to the boards....
  14. May I also suggest that you read a little in 1 Cor. Chapter 2 vs. 14 .... I think... " But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (Emphasis added) This scripture and a couple more in Cor. helped my wife understand a few things that bothered her when we went. Also I agree with the others on here that have counseled you to return often to the temple. The more you go the more you will learn!!!! Good luck.... relax and enjoy
  15. The choice should ultimately be yours but when your family you may have to find some middle ground. I've been blessed to travel a little bit and I think the only Mormons that would be offended by seeing alcohol is a pure bred Utah Mormon lol j/k Do what you feel is right, but remember to always show the respect that your parents deserve. Best wishes on your wedding day :)
  16. Welcome to the boards... and congrads.. :)
  17. Number 1 - congrads on getting into the home of this man. Most don't want the HT there at all, whether theres a lesson or not. Number 2 - Have you ever thought that your home teacher isn't nessisarily there for you. They get the oppertunity to visit with the family and improve their skills at talk and communicating with others. This is great for the young men planning to go on a mission and it doesn't hurt us older men either. Please allow your home teachers to do their job, what they have been called to do. Even if its just to visit with you. :) Number 3 - As secretary in the EQ, may I say that I get to talk with a lot of you brotheren and sometimes the conversation gets a little of track. If you could please remind me to ask you how your families are I'd sure appreciate it. You see sometimes between personal life and callings and work, we too get very busy and forget to ask all the right questions. Thanks again for your help...
  18. I have found that it is easiest to ask the families what they expect. Some want a lesson, some just want to visit for a few minutes, and some don't want home teachers at all. Ask the family what they want you to do. I usually share a little bit out of the first pres message and make sure the family is doing OK. Bring cookies or something once in a while is a great way to show that you care about them and that its more to you then just an assignment. Best of luck... :)
  19. It seems to me that is why 90% of the people I talk to have left. Because someone didn't agree with them and offended them or they wanted to see what they were missing, that "everyone else was doing!"
  20. Teens get a special recommend from their bishops to go do baptisms for the dead. If you are a new member working toward the temple I think that you'll have to wait until you get your personal recommend to do your work and then you are welcome to do your family's work. But Pale or one of them can probably answer that better then I can. best of luck and I hope this helps.. :)
  21. Pale, obviously we have gotten off topic, should a convert be allowed the priesthood, yes, in a timely manner if they show a willingness to hold up their end of the agreement. But should it be given just because some time went by... in my opinion NO, not just because they've been there for a few months or so. They should earn it and respect the calling, and that applies to all of us, not just converts.... By the by, we should all be converts to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  22. That maybe the guideline in the church handbook but I don't think its law.
  23. I got mine at 36, it was specific enough for me... it talked about callings I'd receive if I stayed worthy, it talked about my family and my parents.... To say the least it was really cool. I recommend one for all those who are worthy, and I hope that all will try to bring themselves home in Heavenly Fathers plan. :)
  24. Excellant post to both of you.... We do need to learn to put others before ourselves, and some of the hardest lessons are to allow others to help you. This is on that I need to work on, and each day is a new lesson.... :) Thanks
  25. I agree totally, I am glad that they come to church and all but to give them the priesthood just cause they show up??? I think that should be thought through a lot more... Just my opinion... :)
