Another thing everyone can do is to write to their representatives in Congress. We all have them. Write them and write to them again. The squeaky wheels always get oiled first. Imagine 301 million Americans squeaking? I can just see all our representatives' mailboxes stuffed every day, their voice mails constantly full and their emails jam packed with everyone demanding action. :D

On another note, some good tips for making your fuel last a little longer is to make sure your vehicles are tuned up, tires are properly inflated, drive slower (no more lead feet) to reduce wind resistance and drag on your vehicles to minimize fuel consumption at higher velocities, plus when you're commuting to work on the highways, if possible, set your cars for cruise control. You will shave gas expenses as much as 15%. That translates to a lot in the long run.

i work for a large trucking company, they are turning our trucks down 3 mph to 62 mph max....they figure it will save them 14 MILLION a year.....

thats a couple pennies

I was listening on the news a couple months ago that truckers were slowing down to crawling speeds on the highway in protest. Personally speaking, I think it's possible that there are forces at work behind the scenes to transition us to go "green." In other words, prices are skyrocketing to the point that we will do anything to be more economical with transportation. The stage is being set for an environmental revolution. We'll have green transportation soon enough and the politicians will be our heroes again. Of course I could be way off. No doubt someone will be profiting immensely with the changing trends.

Am I the only person who thinks we shouldn't drill our own land? Use up everyone elses oil so if we are invaded we'll have the oil we need to defend ourselves.

Why do people think that we have a right to cheap fuel? Unless there's some sort of company conspiracy going on (like with the rolling black outs) then it's fine with me. Besides, gas prices are so uncomfy now that people are actually doing things to be more economical, which is GOOD. Good for the pocket and especially good for the environment.

I think we need to have more electric hybrid vehicles available while we work on developing hydrogen fuel.

Also, there isn't anymore oil available that's easy to get to. It's all in between rocks and sediment now. Also, oil excavating is dirty work and wrecks havoc on the ecosytems surrounding the area being drilled.

So, the answer here is to find another energy source that is cleaner and more efficient.

In the mean time, carpool, walk, ride your bike, take public transit as much as possible.

At the present moment, we need about 20.1 million barrels per day without the aid of importing oil. The nation has been scaling back since 1986 from 12.5 million barrels per day to now 5.3 million barrels per day. It is also claimed, just in the Mid-West, there is an estimate of 2 Trillion Barrels of untapped shale oil. Remember Ruth, it is harder to extract oil from shale rock - also costly. There is no real profit below 60.00 dollar per barrel. Now there is money to be made, they can do it. Utah does not import oil but rely on the north to south huge underground oil vein running from Canada to Arizona. However, the rest is now extracted from shale.

Looking at our own refineries, this is another issue to overcome. We are presently running at 81 percent capacity and may need to increase the amount of refineries by 15-percent to meet the above demand.

All of this information can be sought off of EIA website.

Agreed. There are good alternatives, but the technology is available to drill safely in our own land. Why pay $4 per gallon when we could have had gasoline by now at less than half that price? As for conspiracies, that might be a bit of a stretch, but there is definitely strategic planning on the part of the big industries to continue in their efforts to capitalize. They receive tax breaks and subsidies in order to explore alternative energy sources and also so that domestic companies can compete with international suppliers. Really it's all about greed. Had this effort been pushed through since the time Jimmy Carter proposed the resolution, and had Bill Clinton not vetoed it, we could be filling our gas tanks up today at less than $2 per gallon. Instead oil prices are skyrocketing and are predicted to double in price per barrel within the next 18 months.

Unfortunately in my trade I can't walk to work and pull my company equipment. Truckers still need diesel to transport all the food we eat, clothes we wear, the furniture in our homes, etc. Everything we buy is transported from somewhere. It's much more complicated than the consequence to the average American citizen and citizens of other countries.

I'd kill kung fu panda for cheap gas

I truly believe in being conservative and environment friendly. Heck, I was one of those valiant boy scouts that earned all his merit badges including Environmental Science.

The Lord created man and gave to man dominion over the earth and the animals. We were given stewardship over them and I believe that it is possible today to continue to drill for oil while keeping the polar bears and caribou safe in Alaska, while alternative energy sources are finally implemented. I'd rather be able to drive a solar powered anti gravity car if one was available. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of a plotting and greedy government. It's frustrating.

lol, now I'm embarrassed that I missed it. The panda badge wasn't a merit badge was it? I think it was something completely different. Now it's going to bug me that I can't remember. I do remember earning it, but it was over 25 years ago that I was a boy scout. :animatedlol:
