Bookmeister Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I solved the whole television watching issue by owning a 40 year old black & white tv, and using a bent coathanger for an antenna. Quote
sanguine Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 We took a vote and kicked the T.V out. We do have the option to watch videos and dvds. My children are quite critical about what they watch. I hope they spread that to their kids. Quote

You can also see the originals on the internet -- many are posted on You Tube under "banned cartoons". The Flintstones was indeed an adult cartoon. If you analyze the content you can see that -- of course, the inuendo contained in most classic cartoons is highly sexual as well as violent but kids don't really notice it. Again, I'd say most cartoons made today are merely based on the concept that if you make a cartoon the kids will watch it. Most are really cheap in content and if they use computer animation exclusively then that just emphasizes the cheapness. There are exceptions that I would buy for my kids if I saw them on sale:SpongebobJohny BravoThe Winx ClubPowerPuff GirlsCourage -- the Cowardly DogDexter's Lab (the cartoon, not Dexter the crime fighter)AvatarEek the Cat Quote
Guest GhostRider Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Honor...WOW Mr Rogers? havnt seen his shows in like forever! You brought up a very good point on him though. very good show.. My brother told me today that his youngest is starting to dig Sesame street. So..Brother bought some of the classic DVDs from when we were kids..he says HUGE difference and no the tyke likes those better! he runs around the house imitating the little typewriter...nununununu...Y! Yellow!...drives my brother insane! just goes to show the mothers curse is real! Some of the others I remember now is Thomas the Tank Engine. also very good show I should elaborate that babys first is a Direct TV chanel that my folks got just for Critter. its geard for more of the really young kids like newborn to 3-4. All Critter needs to hear is the Tec song and he comes running and grabbed me and dad and we sat for about 15 min watching the show. Cause Papaw had a red tractor like TEC...lol...It is a very good show that deals with the goings on a farm. things most kids never see. And teaches some valuable lessons. Dad is looking for DVDs as I type so he can get a cool gift for the little guy. Quote
Fiannan Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 · Hidden Hidden Just thought I'd post something like this so in the future I can refer to it. During the campaign Obama's web site encouraged kids to nag their parents into voting for Obama as well as have Obama sleep-over parties. Then there were the creepy songs sung in teverence for Obama by little kids on You Tube, the You Tube posted video of the group of young men saying that because of Obama they (insert life goal), the people saying his speeches seemed crafted by people with knowledge of neurolinquistic programing, the Soviet-style posters all over the internet as well as displayed by the party faithful...why stop now? When your task is to build a personality cult then generally there are directions this can take that...well, you know. Hey, you might find the question I started at the beginning of the thread gets asked in the future but not in the context of a rhetorical device.

Puppenstein Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I watched my nephew over the weekend and now I absolutely love Backyardigans and Wonderpets is a close second. I have started to TiVo both of them to watch with him the next time he is over. I watched a few episodes of Little Einstein's and just didn't understand what was so great about that show - there is the music component, but it was much more entertaining to watch the other shows - and yes, Spongebob is great too! He is too young for that at 18 months. Quote
