I really could use some advice!!

A friend of mine invited me to a medium/physic party so at first I thought it would be fun and then I started talking to a VERY religious friend of mine and i also spoke with the pastoral associate at my church and they both think its evil and that i should not go (probably because I'm already afraid of my own shadow).:o

my problem is, my friend already did a head count and is counting on my 50 bucks and i already said I'd go before I really thought about it. eek

So is it just a bunch of us chatty Kathy's getting together and having a stupid reading or could this really be evil and going against God????

Thanks,

CB

CB: While I have no way of knowing what lies in store at your friends party, I have always believed it unwise to dabble in any kind of mysteries such as this. My thought are this: Like it or not, we are in a war with Satan. He wants us to be unhappy and is doing his level best to win our souls. We on the other hand should want the exact opposite. We know that he will try to draw us over to his side one step at a time, even if its done by small baby steps. Many a sould has been lost because it first started out as an innocent curiousity. So my advise would be think very seriously about attending this party. I agree with the advise you have already received on this. You know what the right thing to do is.

Err... Uh... I hate to be the one bringing the party down, but yes. Reading the future is something warned against in the old testament and roundly condemned by the Catholic church. Talk to your Priest, he'll tell you more.

depends on what you believe about it. if you truly believe in the power of that kind of thing, that it comes from satan... then there is no "just for fun". if you aren't super religious or don't believe in the power of satan then i guess it could be fun.

might want to look into what kind of party it really is. i read horiscopes and what not on occassion, i think a palm reading could be fun. but the sayonce stuff.... that's a different ball game.

i've always been tempted to do something like the smaller things cause i thought it could be fun... honestly i haven't cause i'm to cheap and won't pay that kind of money for a cheap thrill. on the other hand i also believe in the power of it (sayonce kind of thing). i do think that when you play with such things you do invite the wrong kind of spirits and power and it could prove to leave you in a very bad place. so even if i wasn't to cheap i probably would not do it.... just easiest to go with my first excuse. lol

if you decide not to go (i'm assumeing there is enough time for her to try and find someone else, but even if there isn't) i would just be honest with your friend. if it were me i'd understand if you backed out on me with an explaination. if you feel super guilty about backing out and can afford it give her the money but say you aren't coming. if it makes you uncomfortable, if the spirit is warning you not to go, it's not worth any amt of money.... even if it ruins a friendship.

Do you know where it is talked about in the old testament?

This may sound "wrong" 2 some but im not really the type to talk to my priest about all my issues because if i did that then it would be called stalking!! lol

thanks for you advice

lol ceeboo, you don't have an opinion on your wife going to this thing?

my husband would be very upset if i wanted to go, especially if i were going to pay money to do it. lol he's a little more rigid in the gospel than me.

As sad as this may sound I do not practice my faith like i should:( Thats why Im not sure what i should do.. something inside tells me not to go but something also says its just for fun and to relax and not read so much into eveything..

Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

There is a lesson that is given to our young men in the early years of their Priesthood duties and authority. Here is just a paragraph from that lesson.

The young men should understand the reality of Satan, but you should not talk too much about him or relate personal experiences with the power of evil. Avoid discussing the occult. If the young men bring up such subjects as Ouija boards, séances, spiritualism, or Satan worship, you should tell them that such things are tools of Satan and that we have been counseled to avoid them completely. Then direct the discussion back to the lesson.

something inside tells me not to go but something also says its just for fun and to relax and not read so much into eveything..

there it is, a little person on one shoulder saying one thing and a little person on the other advocating the stuffiness of the first.........

the lds answer might be that the "something inside" would be the holy ghost, it is your warning and you should listen..... the other voice is that of those in the great and spacious building saying "eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die"..... sorry for all the lds references lol it is the lds response. ;)

others might call it your gut... usually followed with "trust your gut"

others would call it instinct...... again usually followed by "trust your instincts"

whatever you call it it seems you have you saying one thing and the outside creeping in saying another. in cases like this i often follow my rule when cleaning out the fridge "when in doubt, throw it out" rarely does the "safe" road or "moderation" end up being to our detriment. maybe nothing would happen at the party and you are just being stuffy.... but in the end what do you really lose taking that road. but if you aren't.... how bad could the alternative be?

another test i use.... i think i recall you saying you have kid(s)... if your kid came to you about a school party that they had uneasy feelings about what would your advise to them be? i can't count how many times i've been told to trust my "mother's intuition" (there's another name for it, intuition) when it comes to my kids, even when it means arguing with a doctor. if you wouldn't advise it for your kids why advise it for you?

Why seek the living to hear from the dead.

Also, before to much time gos by , let her know you thought about it and you dont feel comfortable about it.

you want to give her time to find another person to fill in.

Thinking leads to reading. Reading leads to books. Books make me glad I can't read.

A pox on thinking in general!

When I read this I visualized a little angel on one shoulder and a little devil on the other.

Its up to you to decide which one to listen to.

If it was me I would apologize to my friend and not go. Better safe than sorry.

P.S. We are all imperfect beings working hard to achieve salvation. None of us practice our faith like we should. We're all still working hard on it though.

Sounds kind of fun to me.:) Not so much the $50 bucks though.:( Personally, unless you are really seeking spiritual enlightenment, then it's probably harmless....just entertainment.

Thats what I thought at first, but i just could nt shake this weird feeling i had..

But I am just a big baby.

And i guess we will never know how my good old grandmas goin untill the time is right;)

So Bytor and CB do you think that using a ouija board is just entertainment? or what about standing in a bathroom with the lights off chanting bloody mary? Trying these activities is not just fun, they can be dangerous. We are taught that righteous spirits will not answer to mediums and that if a spirit is actually contacted that it is basically evil and can try to trick or manipulate you.

Hey, CB. I think you should go with your whatever feeling is stronger. It sounds like the weird feeling is stronger, so I would go with that one.

And just know that sometimes we will not know why we felt we had to do something or not do something. I've had feelings to do something before that seemed really weird (like say hello to a stranger or something) and know that what I did was right (because of the good feeling afterwards), but have no idea WHY I had to do it. I just trusted that it was right and helped someone.

And hey, use your $50 to get a massage or something--that's fun! Or take a girlfriend out to dinner/movie--that's fun! Or use it to send flowers to a badly drooling cow--that's fun! If Ceebo has a problem with that, send him my way.
