MarginOfError Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Okay, so I just finished watching an old Seinfeld episode where Jerry fakes a marriage with some woman in order to get discount on dry cleaning. In one scene, Jerry and his fake wife are lying in bed, do a minor snuggle, give each other a quick peck, say "good night" then immediately go to opposite sides of the bed to fall asleep. When they move to opposite sides, the laugh track plays. As I watched that, I thought, "why is that funny? I do that everynight!" Am I weird or do most people sleep away from their spouse/partner? Guest Alana Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 My first thought was "I know I'm wierd, but I don't know about you...." As far as sleeping, we are touching almost the whole night. Sometimes just a foot or hand or sometimes full body spoon. I imagine there was the laugh track because that's how most married couples are but you don't expect it to be that way, making you quite normal. You, normal... right. Quote
john doe Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 My wife does not like to be touched while sleeping. She is a light sleeper and will bolt straight up if touched while she is asleep. I guess that partly as a result of this I am the same way. Sleepy time is sleepy time, don't touch me or bother me when I'm trying to get some z's. Quote
prospectmom Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 we spoon or back to back... gotta slug him if he is on his back cause he SNORES actually first I shake the bed, then him, then say HEY JOHN roll over ,then if that dosen't work I slug him in the arm and he rolls over... so yes I abuse my hubby... :} Quote
DigitalShadow Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 My wife and I usually snuggle until it becomes uncomfortable or one of our limbs fall asleep then roll over and go to sleep usually still pretty close. So yes, as far as I can tell, you are just weird :) Quote

Iggy Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Am I weird or do most people sleep away from their spouse/partner? As a matter of fact - - Yes you are weird! Depends on the ambient temperature of the room to how close Husband and I get. He gives off so much heat - if I am cold than I wrap him around me. If I am hot, flashing, sweating than I push him off the bed .When he is snoring loud and I can't find the ear plugs, I flip- I put my head at the foot of the bed and my feet at the head of the bed. Our cat Fred actually loves it when I do this. He then has a snuggly pocket between us that he dives into and immediately falls asleep - and within minutes Fred is snoring too! Snoring and purring- right up against the small of my back- shortly thereafter I am sound asleep. Quote
Tarnished Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 There are many factors that keep us from sleeping close. 1. He can't get comfy with me snuggling on his left side, but if I am on his right side he does this middle of the night elbow to the face thing, so left side it is. 2. We both steal the covers, so we both have our own blankets and too many blankets too close together can get overwhelming. 3. The biggest reason of all, we have two dogs, one 115 lbs and the other 70 lbs that sleep right between us. Even if we put them on the sides of the bed they will inevitably during the night get up so that they can lie down right between us. This also causes us to lie at the edges of our King sized bed, thus as far away as possible while sleeping in the same bed. We actually have to lock them out of the room when we do want to cuddle. Gwen Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 depends on the night. i don't like to be touched when i'm pregnant and i've been pregnant a lot so there are some habits established. when i'm cold i sleep pretty close. if we fall asleep not touching then i try not to touch my husband at night. right after we got married he was having some dream and i touched his arm. he didn't wake up, i became part of the dream (i have no idea what it was, he has no memory of it) and he grabbed my hand. i thought he was going to break it. i calmly talked him into letting go. my hand throbbed for an hour after that. so yeah, i try not to startle hubby at night. lol Quote
Guest Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 I'm always cold and he's always hot - I'm cold at 78 degrees, he's hot at 72. Quite a problem during sleep time. So, I'm buried under the covers, he's sleeping on top of it. The ceiling fan is whirring (which makes me more cold), so I get as close to him as possible without getting him too hot. Then he would lay his SUPER-HEAVY leg on top of me... effectively pinning me for the rest of the night. He is a very very sound sleeper - you can detonate TNT next to his ears and that won't wake him up, but if I successfully extricate myself out from under his leg, he wakes up and pins me again! I like it though, so I don't mind. Quote

Traveler Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 I am one of these men that create a great deal of heat and I am seldom cold. I will often sleep with only a sheet for a cover while my wife will have two or three blankets. She is also a night person and I am a morning person so I usually go to bed first. I love it when she is cold (especially her feet) and she struggles to get close to get warm.My wife is a wonderful person that is always putting herself last so she often will discomfort herself for my comfort. Every once in a while I will have a flash back of being in the military and dream I have been captured. Usually there are others with me I am trying to protect. After a struggle in my dream I am able to get an arm or leg free to fight back to which I have ether hit my poor wife or kicked her (one time I kicked her completely out of the bed).Usually we do not sleep close. The Traveler Quote
