This is nothing serious, but it would help me a bit if I could get some advice.

So there's this girl I like quite a bit and think she might like me, but that's not important. Whats important is making sure I stay focused on my missionary preparation, and going on a mission etc... She consumes my thoughts quite a bit sometimes, and its distracting me from where my focus should be. I don't want this little crush to become a distraction from my mission, any tips on how I can just forget myself and get to work? Thanks.

Um, forget yourself and get to work?

It's like anything else you think that is inappropriate. You make yourself think of something else. Sing a hymn, read a scripture, smack yourself in the head--whatever it takes.

Once you leave on your mission, you'll face other temptations. So what a great opportunity you have to learn now how to divert your attention to something more appropriate.

hey Ronster,

gotta admit I had to face a similar situation some time ago LOL

was a bit extreme, but I cut almost all contact with that girl, made sure to ignore her as much as I could (even though she's a good friend) b/c they're very good at distracting us !

After a while, it's almost natural.

I also workout 6-8 times a week, kinda gets me numb enough to not think about girls anymore

I had a guy who was going to wait for me, and I ended up breaking up with him because I was so distracted from my mission prep. I knew I was supposed to go on a mission, and I wasn't backing out for any reason (despite the fact that I didn't even want to go). He ended up getting married the weekend of my mission farewell.

Thanks for the advice. Actually I found she actually doesn't like me which knowing that has made it easier to not think about her as much. Its still kinda hard though when I see her every week. (church)

Sounds like you are going through the typical trials of a pre-missionary. Just know your goals, and stick with them. Since she has no interest, it should be easier. Hang out with your friends, don't be alone with any girl, and don't date one-on-one. You won't be finding your eternal companion until you have gone through a bunch of temporary ones.

Ronster might I recommend this great You Tube vid that "someone" posted awhile back. It's about resisting temptation...Which also could be the temptation to not go on a mission because of a girl.

Does this look familiar? lol

hmmm, I'm at a loss, you'll have to refresh me on this one. ;)

So... maybe when ever I see the girl I should climb a building and jump off to get away... ya...

You have received some great advice :]

I guess I don't really have anything different to add, other than to reiterate and say, forget the girl and focus on your goal. And like another member had pointed out, you'll always have temptations, even after returning from your mission you'll face temptations. So what better time to discipline your mind and body, than right here and now?

Be strong and wishing you the best!
