BrotherBear Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Kind of an odd-ball question but do you make the bed? When I was growing up my mother used to make me make my bed before I left for the day but now that I'm grown rarely, if ever, do I make the bed. Friends who are married now say they never make the bed unless company comes over, which doesn't really make sense, unless the company will be in your bed room. So, do you still make the bed? Quote
Elgama Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 yes every morning I throw open the bedroom windows before we come down to breakfast and after we have finished I go back up and make them complete with blankets and cushions arranged. an PJs under pillows, everyone has a blanket on the end of their bed they can us for daytime naps so they don't unmake the bed. I really appreciate it when I go up to bed or into the bedroom my bed looks so cozy and inviting, the visual of the bed is part of getting a good nights sleep for me also what is the point of having nice bedding if it doesn't look nice Quote
lydlou Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 i made my bed while i was in the army. learned all about hospital corners and such. there were no fitted sheerts. if me sheets came off the bed almost every night tthe way unfitteds do i probaly would make my bed daily, but that would requier the effort of moving my stack of books. lol. Guest mormonmusic Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 For me it's a mixed bag. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't -- it depends on how busy I am and how many projects I have going. Quote
Wingnut Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 When I do a really heavy-duty cleaning in my room, I make the bed. Otherwise I don't. I've always hated making the bed. BTW, BrotherBear, there's another (longtime) member of this forum who has your same avatar. I thought at first that it was him who started this thread. Quote
mnn727 Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I'll straighten it out every morning, but to actually make it? once a week is fine Quote

Guest Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 DISGUSTING! Forget HGTV-looking bedrooms... Haven't you ever heard of dust mites? Your bed with the shed skin and moisture from sweat or saliva is perfect habitat for dust mites. It is not healthy to just let all that fecal matter accumulate! It doesn't take more than 5 minutes to make a bed. At least shake the sheets and pillowcases out before making it to dust off fecal matter. Dust mites need at least 50% humidity to survive. So, if you straighten out the sheets and pillowcases, it dries out quicker. The ideal is to throw the sheets and pillowcases in the drier at "cotton" setting for 10 minutes. But, I wash my sheets every week, so I don't bother with this unless the sheets have saliva marks. Quote
Jenamarie Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Most days I do. I'm a bit of a clean freak, and I've noticed that it doesn't matter how clean the rest of the bedroom is, if the bed isn't made, it looks messy. I also like having "turning down the sheets" as part of my bedtime routine for myself and my kids. It reminds me of my grandma. Quote
applepansy Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 yes I make the bed...right before I get back in it. LOL I can't sleep in a messy bed. Quote
pam Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I do almost every day. For some reason I feel like it my bed is made, even if the rest of my bedroom is a bit messy for the day or cluttered, it doesn't look quite so bad. lol I think it comes from my mom teaching me..even if you don't have the best clothes to wear...if your hair is clean and brushed...it can make a difference in your appearance and the impression you make to others. Quote
Dravin Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 I don't spend time in my room except to sleep. I'll tidy up the bed (straighten the blankets, but the pillows at the head) in preparation for going to bed, but other than that I leave it as is. Oh wait... one exception, if I read on my bed (I lay on my side) I make the bed before doing so. Quote
Relentless Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Nope. My wife does, as I leave for work before her. And on my days off, she still makes the bed, because as a man, I am incapable of doing it right. Quote
Guest xforeverxmetalx Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Never do unless I'm cleaning the rest of the room and want it to look nice. It's annoying to do otherwise, since every morning, it looks about the same no matter if I made it the night before or not. I don't care either... at night I just grab the blanket, throw it over me, and I'm good. Quote

Wingnut Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 yes I make the bed...right before I get back in it. LOL I can't sleep in a messy bed.I once had a roommate who ironed her pajamas before putting them on. I even saw her once iron he pajama pants while she was wearing them, because she'd forgotten to do it before she put them on. She pulled the fabric away from her skin, and pressed the iron to it. Quote
pam Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Well I'm not that bad..but I do have to iron the pillowcases after washing them. Just can't sleep on them unless I do. Okay maybe I am just as bad. lol Quote

You want iggy, consider this:Dust is made up of a variety of things from blowing dirt, bacteria, pollen, pollutants, molds, animal dander, hair, decomposing insects, fibers, dryer lint, insulation, dust mites and their excrement, and mostly, skin flakes that humans shed. Breathe deep, forget about laying in it. :) Quote
