Elphaba Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Being a Democrat, I thought this chart was interesting:I rarely watch television, and the only show I make a real effort to watch, "Glee," isn't on here. But I LOVE "The Big Bang Theory," and when I need background television for the noise I'll watch "Desperate Housewives," which I discovered was actually pretty funny, and/or "30 Rock," on Hulu. I do love me some "Dexter," if I can get it, but so far only the early seasons are on Netflix's Watch Instantly.Oh, and I really hate "Law and Order." I don't see a correlation between the shows listed above and their red and blue categorizations, other than, of course, numbers one of both.Do you?Elph Quote
Wingnut Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Interesting. There aren't any on the blue list that I watch regularly. I enjoy 30 Rock, but I don't have cable and our antenna isn't set up, so everything we do is online. I find that I can't watch episode after episode of it, because it just becomes inane. I do, however, absolutely love Big Bang Theory. I also enjoy Dancing with the Stars and Lie to Me. Most of my standbys aren't on here at all though.Elphie, if you use Netlfix's Watch Now feature, you should check out the show Psych, if you're not already familiar with it. I think you'd like it. NeuroTypical Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Heh. I've never watched any of the shows from either list, except for the cop shows and Dexter. My wife loves Law & Order and NCIS, but mostly Dexter. She tells me she identifies with him. We don't have cable/satelite - just netflix and google video and what our antanna picks up. I'm thinking that if you ran this test on Conservative vs. Liberal, you'd discover that a higher percentage of both don't bother with popular tv at all. LM Quote
Dravin Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) The only shows on either list I really consider myself to watch (though not all that often) are NCIS and The Mentalist. No Criminal Minds on the list though, that's probably my favorite show on the tube as of late (of course I average under single digits of TV watched a week) Edited November 13, 2010 by Dravin Quote
john doe Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 As a conservative (not really a republican), looking over the Red List (how cute that they made republicans red and libs blue): 1) Glenn Beck-- don't watch. 5pm Eastern? Real people are still working then. 2) Amazing Race-- lost its luster a couple years ago. I don't care if I don't see it. 3) Modern Family-- I'll watch it if there's nothing else to do. Not very riveting in my opinion. 4) American Idol-- Please. Who cares about that anymore? The talent pool is just about dry. 4) 'V' -- I'll admit I enjoyed that when it was on. 6) Big Bang Theory-- Don't watch. Always get it confused with that show with Doogie Houser. 6) Mentalist-- Interesting show. I'll watch it. Not my favorite, but it's okay. 8) Survivor-- Haven't watched in years. People showing their inner scumbag just doesn't seem very enjoyable to me. 9) Dancing with the Stars-- I watch it with the wife when she's interested in it. Haven't seen this season at all. Just what kind of a star is this potty-mouth clown The Situation? A star? Really? 10) Desperate Housewives-- used to be one of my guilty pleasures. I've lost interest for the last year or so. 11) NCIS-- I enjoy it. 12) The Bachelor-- Haven't watched since that creep heir to the Firestone fortune was on. 12) Lie to me-- It's okay. Hard to follow though, I usually watched to see the show on after it, The Good Guys. 14) How I Met Your Mother-- Now that's the one with Doogie Houser, right? 15) Two and a Half Men-- funny, but extremely inappropriate. Usually there's something better on. Quote

marshac Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 The new V is pretty awesome.... what's with the dems still clinging to 90210.... sorry.... no matter how many times you re-make that show, the 90s are not coming back. It's sad, I know- I miss the 90s too. =D Quote
prisonchaplain Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 The ultimate family values show has got to remain Little House on the Prarie. We recently purchased the DVD set of the entire series, and wow...they actually show people in church as being normal. There are some underlying social issues that do not cut right or left, but the overall drive of most of the characters is to be good. And, when characters are bad, the show dares to judge the behavior as such. Amazing stuff. Quote
PrincessMe Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Apparently I am 50/50. Three of each. Quote
Wingnut Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 3) Modern Family-- I'll watch it if there's nothing else to do. Not very riveting in my opinion.Interesting that this is on the conservative list. A friend of mine likes it, but her husband -- one of the most conservative people I know -- refuses to watch it for no other reason than that there are gay characters in it.6) Mentalist-- Interesting show. I'll watch it. Not my favorite, but it's okay.Agreed. Not bad, not great. Mildly entertaining.9) Dancing with the Stars-- I watch it with the wife when she's interested in it. Haven't seen this season at all. Just what kind of a star is this potty-mouth clown The Situation? A star? Really?I enjoy the show, but it's not worth my time to watch back episodes online or try to keep up. Occasionally I'll watch some on YouTube.10) Desperate Housewives-- used to be one of my guilty pleasures. I've lost interest for the last year or so.Lol. You were a Desperate Housewives fan? That strikes me as oddly amusing.12) The Bachelor-- Haven't watched since that creep heir to the Firestone fortune was on.This show (and The Bachelorette) are both awful, but in that train wreck sort of way -- you hate seeing it, but once you start, you can't stop watching.12) Lie to me-- It's okay. Hard to follow though, I usually watched to see the show on after it, The Good Guys.I really enjoy Lie to Me, but haven't watched it a whole lot.Oh and by the way, you used #12 twice. And skipped #13.14) How I Met Your Mother-- Now that's the one with Doogie Houser, right?Neil Patrick Harris, yes.15) Two and a Half Men-- funny, but extremely inappropriate. Usually there's something better on.Stupid, stupid, stupid. Quote
john doe Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Oh and by the way, you used #12 twice. And skipped #13.I used Eplh's numbers, which I assume are ties on the list. There are also two #6s. I'm not really sure how they came up with the scoring system. Quote
Wingnut Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 I hadn't noticed that. There are two 4's also. And two 6's and two 11'sin blue. And here I thought you were being cryptically superstitious. Quote
HoosierGuy Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I watch Obermann some times, but only a few minutes to thirty minutes, never the whole show. I do watch Daily Show and Colbert Report. I don't watch any other programs on that list. I consider it mostly trash. I do watch Get Smart from Netflix though. To each his own. Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I do not watch much television at all. My favorite show I enjoy is Biggest Loser. On a rare occasion I watch Glenn Beck, but most television shows do not interest me. I find it very bothersome how most dancing has become very sexual. What happened to the talented and classic dancing? Take a look at this Fred Estair and Ginger Rogers clip: Quote
rameumptom Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Amazing Race DWTS NCIS That's about it. I found it interesting that the blue set included many evening Soap Operas, and Dexter (about a serial killer-if they catch him and sentence him to death, will the left protest it?); while the Red set have a lot of reality television. NeuroTypical Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Dexter (about a serial killer-if they catch him and sentence him to death, will the left protest it?)I can speak to that. Dexter fans from both sides of the aisle wouldn't be surprised, but they might shed a tear or two, if Dexter gets caught and executed. The show has done what seems impossible - brought us into his mind in such a way that we feel sympathy for him. Good and evil are very real forces in that show. Dexter is portrayed as a basically good guy who fights against external evil, and strives to learn acceptable ways to accomodate the evil inside him. You root for Dexter, but you don't justify him.
