HiJolly Posted November 19, 2010 Report Posted November 19, 2010 Long ago it was considered 'bad'. I believe this was because it was illegal in the US (typically in various individual States), and so in line with out belief that we should obey the law of the land, it was decried from the pulpit as 'wicked' or 'bad'. Then the laws changed in 1965, and consequently so has the stance of the Church. At present, the Church has no official statement regarding birth control, preferring to leave it between the married couple and God. The only exception I know of on this is in the case of abortion, which the Church does not support. HiJolly Quote
applepansy Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 We are expected to "multipy and replehish the earth," we are encouraged to have children and welcome any child sent to us ... having said that its really up to the couple, while taking into consideration the health of the mother, financial considerations, etc. Quote
pam Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 This is what the Church's views are according to lds.org:Children are one of the greatest blessings in life, and their birth into loving and nurturing families is central to God’s purposes for humanity. When husband and wife are physically able, they have the privilege and responsibility to bring children into the world and to nurture them. The decision of how many children to have and when to have them is a private matter for the husband and wife.God has a plan for the happiness of all who live on the earth, and the birth of children in loving families is central to His plan. The first commandment He gave to Adam and Eve was to “be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:28). The scriptures declare, “Children are a heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Those who are physically able have the blessing, joy, and obligation to bear children and to raise a family. This blessing should not be postponed for selfish reasons. Sexual relations within marriage are not only for the purpose of procreation, but also a means of expressing love and strengthening emotional and spiritual ties between husband and wife. Husband and wife are encouraged to pray and counsel together as they plan their families. Issues to consider include the physical and mental health of the mother and father and their capacity to provide the basic necessities of life for their children. Decisions about birth control and the consequences of those decisions rest solely with each married couple. Elective abortion as a method of birth control, however, is contrary to the commandments of God. Quote
Honor Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Eternal Marriage Student ManualThat link is to the Eternal Marriage Student Manual published by the church as a study reference for the Eternal Marriage Institute classes. It's pretty much like an encyclopedia full of quotes, scriptures and talks relating to a variety of topics having to do with marriage. Click on the Birth Control link and read for yourself what has been said. Quote
Man_on_the_Hill Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 I am always surprised by the question... What does "The Church Say?". You can find your own answers directly from the source of Knowledge. It's more accurate that way. My source say.. it depends. Quote

Japan has like no room at all for all their people. China has over 1 billion people. When it comes to replenishing, they don't mess around. Quote
