I was reading an article about something that happened awhile back..and it struck me..has it really been almost 21 years since that occurred? So I got to thinking about other things and how I can still remember them so vividly but the years have gone by. Some of those things are:

1. Ryan White died almost 21 years ago.

2. This year will be the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

3. In 2013 it will be 50 years since JFK died.

4. 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down.

5. This month will be 25 years since the Challenger disaster.

6. 41 years since the Manson murders.

7. 12 years since John F. Kennedy Jr died in plane crash.

8. 14 years since Princess Diana died.

9. 7 years since the Asian Tsunami.

10. 31 years since Mt. St. Helens erupted.

The list can just go on and on. What are some things you remember during your lifetime that seems like it just happened yesterday but really happened a few years ago?

Nothing highly historical for me, but the kids graduating High school has been the big one for me. I can remember them just starting school and now they are the 3 older ones will be finished by the end of the year. Wasn't i just teaching them to read and count? Wasn't i just walking them to their first day of school?

Holding my first son in my arms seems like it was not too long ago. I remember it vividly.

He's now 22, Junior at the University, returned missionary, waiting for a gal on a mission... and he has 5 little brothers and a little sister that will soon be 8.

Life goes by as if it were a dream.

It's hard to believe that 9/11 was so long ago. It's also hard to believe that Americans have such short memories that most of them act as if it is still 9/10.

I realize the princes have grown up, but it is difficult to think that Diana has been gone so long. Wow.

I don't have undergrads, so I'm not smacked in the face with the age difference all the time, but the missionaries were born in 1990 and 91. Huh? That was like yesterday, right? It's hard to get my mind around that someone born in 1990 is walking and talking. It seems they should be in grade school or something.

I can totally relate to that dahlia. I have 2 boys both born in 1991. They will be 20 this year. They were born in Honolulu and it seems like we lived there just a couple of years ago but in reality left when they were 2.

So this is kind-of a dumb one, but it's been 17 years since the cops chased OJ on the freeway. I only really remember this because I lived in Southern California at the time, and the chase started while I was on stage speaking at my junior high school graduation. (Sorry if that makes any of you feel old).

Also 17 years since the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding "incident." Also kinda dumb, but one I remember.

Fifteen years since the bombing at the Atlanta Olympics.

Pretty darn close. It was in 1994. Oh and the Kerrigan/Harding ordeal was in 1994 as well.

Sorry I was going by actual dates and being too exacting. Since it hadn't hit the date yet it was still 16. lol

I figured you were going by the year, since Mt. St. Helens happened in May, and it will be 31 years in a few months.

No matter, though. They're still kind-of odd things to remember.

The ones I mentioned in my OP I remembered off the top of my head because I can remember things about my life that were happening at the time. I had to look up the dates for OJ and Kerrigan.

But then it doesn't seem like it's been that long since the OJ and Kerrigan ordeals either.

I remember that! I lived a few blocks from the freeway at the time watching it on TV. I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't join in, so I walked down onto the freeway and took these:

I'm not forgetting that one because I didn't know you when you were born so how would I be able to go.."Wow, it's been 30 years since Wingnut was born?"

But you do the birthdays, pam. And I thought you were omniscient? Aren't you the great and powerful third-person narrator of LDS.net?

I remember vividly Mahonri when you announced, probably on the Fringe forum, that you and your wife had had a little girl, after all your boys. Wow, that was 8 years ago? :)

8. 14 years since Princess Diana died.

It's been 14 years since I first got up on my high horse of self-righteous indignation about how Mother Theresa died within a week of princess Di, and the world will remember the wrong person for the wrong reasons.

My diatribe sounded a little like this:

The world, being full of people constantly focused on the wrong thing, will forget about the humble death of one of the most Christlike figures this world managed to produce. But it will vividly remember a car crash near a tunnel in Paris, where some rich divorced chick, after spending 9 days with her boyfriend on his daddy's yacht, went cruising through Paris. The chauffeur drove recklessly, the paparazzi were relentless. Her kids were left at home. Nobody was wearing a seatbelt.

Mother Theresea left behind a bucket, two worn dresses, some glasses, and a pair of shoes.

Shame on you, world. You will stand judged, every time there's a news story or reflection on days past, where Princess Di is remembered but Mother Theresea is forgotten.

I like the occasional self-righteous diatribe. Helps me feel better about myself.

LM, a friend of my mom's lost her son the same day that Princess Di died. He died in a four-wheeling accident, and I remember being sad and somewhat indignant that everyone cared about Di and no one cared about a person that some of us actually knew. A "real" person, who left behind a family and a grieving mother.

It's been 17 years today since the Northridge earthquake. I remember that one quite vividly.

I have one for you Pammy-

Can you believe that it has been almost 11 years since I stumbled into a chatroom called LDSTALK and met you and some crazy girl named Giggles that ended up becoming my very best friend?

Those were the days! J
