The spirit of Christ is with everyone.

The Holy Ghost can communicate with anyone.

I am assuming that God the father can communicate with anyone.

How does one know which member of the Godhead is communicating with one?

I was always with the understanding that the Father communicates with us through the Holy Ghost.

This per Dallin H. Oaks

In the personal line we pray directly to our Heavenly Father, and He answers us by the channels He has established, without any mortal intermediary. We pray to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ, and He answers us through His Holy Spirit and in other ways. The mission of the Holy Ghost is to testify of the Father and the Son, to guide us into truth, and to show us all things we should do.

We communicate through prayer to Heavenly Father.

Our prayer is sent through the name of Jesus Christ, who is our advocate with the Father.

Heavenly Father answers our prayers through the Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit to us directly, or to others that may provide the help/answer we need.

Each individual has a specific role to play in staying connected to our Hevenly Father, but it is always him that we address in our prayers.

It may not matter to people who just want to live a normal life but to an intellectual who enjoys the life of the mind it does matter. Its sort of like a person who wants to drive his car. He doesn't care about how the car works but an engineer wants to know how the car works.

My question is not to whom one prays but who is trying to communicate with us.

Specifically

1. If the spirit of Christ is with everyone how do I know if the answer is the Spirit of Christ or the Holy Ghost?

2. How can I tell if the message is from Heavenly Father or the Holy Ghost?

Thanks for you opinion.

Perhaps you are referring to the Light of Christ which is given to all mankind....conscience. Remember that Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are One God....so when you feel the Spirit and/or hear the "still small voice" that is from Heavenly Father.

The "light of" and "spirit of" Christ seem to be used interchangeably, but in either case how does one differentiate between the "light of" & the Holy Ghost?

Logically it doesn't follow from "Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are One God" that "when you feel the Spirit and/or hear the "still small voice" that is from Heavenly Father."

There is one God Head with 3 Gods in it. So back to my original question. How does one know which member of the God Head is "speaking" to you.

They will either say so, or the holy ghost will let you know if it is important for you to know who.

God the Father, Christ, and the Holy ghost can choose to talk to anyone they choose.

most of the time it is the holy ghost. on rare occasions Christ has personally communed with individuals. On rarer occasions GOd has spoken directly with individuals as well however every case i've seen that has had that happen after the garden of eden it has been to Introduce and testify of Christ, afterwhich Christ would do the talking.

Sometimes angels are sent.

In the Old Testament it often sounds as though God The Father is speaking, but it is Jehovah....when you feel the Spirit or hear the still small voice, it is from God. They are ONE....One in thought and purpose. If the Spirit reveals something to you it is the mind and will of the Father.

The Light of Christ and the Holy Ghost are not the same thing.

See: Holy Ghost

See: Light of Christ

I believe, and no I don't have any references handy to support this, that when we hear a still small voice or ideas come into our mind that it is the Holy Ghost we hear and He is the source of our inspiration. It would not surprise me to learn that it was Jesus or God who told the Holy Ghost what to say to us and what inspiration to give us. If after praying I get an answer to my pray I will count it as God answering my prayer but that he let the Holy Ghost deliver his answer to me.

I believe that the times that Jesus and God talk directly to someone they actually visit that person and talk face to face.

All this doesn't mean we can't hear God's voice or Jesus' voice but it seems to me that the above is how those three communicate with us.

Nothing clear is coming to me about the light of Christ or spirit of Christ and so I will leave that for someone else to talk about.

The light of Christ is in essence our conscience. It guides us between what is right and wrong. We can have this sense even when we are doing wrong.

The Holy Ghost testifies of truth - one can argue that the difference between right and wrong is a truth but the Holy Ghost cannot dwell with us or inspire us unless we have prepared ourselves to receive that which is Holy

Because man is fallen the Father will never speak to us except with and through Jesus Christ. That means that because Jesus in the only mediator that he must be present whenever the Father speaks to us. There is confusion in scripture because often Jesus will speak in the first person for the Father. We also see this occurring in the Book of Revelation when an angel is speaking in first person for Jesus and John decides he better worship the angel. The angel corrects him and says that even though he speaks in first person John needs to understand that he is not actually Jesus.

This whole divine representation is not uncommon. In D&C 84 where we learn about the oath and covenant of the priesthood we learn that by covenant in the priesthood we accept our priesthood leaders as we would Jesus who must be accepted as we would the Father. Jesus also taught this principle very clearly accepting him was accepting the Father and vice versa.
