KosherXMorg Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Hello! :) I am researching Mormonism, and I have 6 questions ....Looking for members of the LDS church. It won't let me post all the questions with the references here (too long)...So I posted them online at JoshuaFKon - Thoughts on Mormonism or JoshuaFKon - Questions I just want to say that I'm not trying to attack anyone, I am trying to look at the issues from both sides so I though I'd post here to get some Mormon perspective to some questions I have seen raised on anti-mormon sites.I understand that if you just glanced at the Bible it too would seem unbelievable, so I am trying to have an open mind.Thank you very much for your help,God bless,Josh B) Short description of questions: (but please see site for full questions and sources)(1) If the Book of Mormon is true then, considering the way it was "translated" why have there been any changes made to it? (2) If The Book of Mormon is true then why does it seem to copy the KJV of the Bible? Even so far as to copy the words that were added by the translators, and errors in the Hebrew? (3) Why is there no archeological evidence of the Book of Mormon's claims? And why does the evidence seem to contradict it? E.g. the animals, crops, and metalworking. (4) If Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, then why did some of his prophecies fail to come to pass? (5) if the other scriptures (e.g. The Book of Abraham etc.) are true why do they seem to contradict each other? (6) And how do you explain that the Book of Abraham does not read as Joseph Smith claimed it did?Are these questions they are teaching you to ask from new anti-cult series at churches?1) Most of the changes are grammatical in nature and have nothing to do with theology, any changes that do take it up with LDS editors, I use a re-print of the First Edition.2) They sound the same because that is the way Elohim had wanted it translated, so it would match the prevailing language of scripture found in the early 1800's, which was King James. Second, according to the sources you have decided to use are the same errors in Hebrew in both books. I'm sure we can fine plenty of non-LDS scholars who will disagree that any errors you may point to are, in fact, errors.3)There are thousands upon thousands of cities buried in the southern Mexico/ Central American jungles that no archaeologist has even been to yet. Heck, just last year they found a huge ancient palace in a poor neighborhood in MEXICO CITY. Also, American archeology has only been going on for about 100 years, when they have a couple thousand more years under their belts like Biblical archaeologists, come back and see me.4) Please point to a prophecy that failed.5) Please point to a contradiction.6) Please show me that the papyrus script Joseph used is the EXACT one your buddies claim show he didn't translate it right. That will be all.
Aphrodite Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Joshua Im not surprised you have decided to leave for a while. A few people have come to this site looking for answers on the conflicting aspects of Mormonism. What invariably happens is what has happened now. Anything that goes against Mormons carefully crafted views and beliefs will be met with hostility and anger and you will be brandished an 'anti-Mormon' *sigh*. I think the reason is that if they entertain any thoughts of the church being not what it claims to be, their whole life and belief structure will be put into question. It is therefore easier to attack you than face upto the facts. This is something you WILL encounter within the Mormon church-you cannot question. If you do, you will be seen as an outcast. Simple as that. You might get some answers at newordermormon.com They are more open minded and very knowledgeable about the very things you have questions about.

Moksha Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 I resectfully submit that you are wrong, I am not here to "educate Mormons as to why we're wrong"I have questions about Mormonism, I am skeptical yes, but not close minded. DA's do not ask their overwhelming questions just to get tidbits of information. You have gone to a lot of trouble with the website, links and framing your arguements if you just wanted to ask questions. The asking questions bit is rather like sheeps clothing, don't you think?
Dr T Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 This thread was way back in 2006. Did Josh come back?
