pam Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 I realize that the title of this thread may knock a few of you out but I need some ideas. At work we have a contest among some of our teams on quality of which I am in charge of. Each month we have a theme. For this month it's St. Patricks day and we're using shamrocks. For each 100% quality we have a shamrock cutout that we're gluing to a popsicle stick and then we're taping along our cubicles so that they stand up and are very noticeable. Team with the most at the end of the month wins. This is the ideas we've come up so far. But I would love to hear some more ideas: April: Easter (bunny, egg, basket) May: April showers bring May flowers (flowers) June: Summer (flip flops, beach ball, palm tree) July: Patriotic (flag, fire crackers) Aug: Sept: Football season starts (football, helmet) Oct: Halloween (witch, ghost, pumpkin) Nov: Thanksgiving (cornucopia, turkey) Dec: Christmas (tree, snowman, present) August we had kind of thought about fall so different shapes and colors of leaves. These are all things I have to find a pattern for so we can cut them out so they have to be reasonably simple. Okay let's hear your ideas. Quote
beefche Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 When I think of August, I think HOT! The temps are usually pretty warm then. So, maybe August Hotness? and use flames as your pattern? Quote
marshac Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 100% behind the firecrackers for July... you guys get them TWICE that month! So jealous... I like beefche's idea for Aug- that's still a pretty hot month. Maybe a grill? BBQ tongs? Steak? I'm hungry... Quote
Guest Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 August is still Summer. But, it is Back to School time. So, pencil or chalk or crayons, etc. October is better noted for Fall Leaves and Pumpkins than Halloween really. Everything else are cool. Quote
pam Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 We had also thought of August as back to school time as well. So we had thought of school bus. I kind of have to disagree about October. I polled people at work and asked them what the first thing they thought of when I say October and every single one said Halloween. Plus pumpkins do have a lot to do with Halloween. Keep the ideas coming. Quote
annewandering Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Lots of fairs in August. ^^ Halloween can have fall leaves as well. Sept is harvest season. Forget football! Yuck lol. Nov can also be the beginning of ski season so maybe a pair of skis? Quote

annewandering Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 sure you can. if you insist use Boise colors!! Quote
pam Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 Did someone say something above me? I can't see that comment. :) Quote
Guest Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Is the NYC skyline too morbid for a September symbol? Hey, how about making it even easier and just go do birthstones... Quote
Wingnut Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 I would move June's theme to August (summer, beach, etc.) and do Fathers' Day for June. Another idea is to make August (or June, for that matter) road trip month. Maps, license plates, "welcome to" signs, Route 66. Quote
bytebear Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) I always remember Sunshine, so happy sun faces with rays coming out of it. It's my birth month, and I remember calendars always had suns, when all the other months got cool things like flags, shamrocks, etc.I also think of September more of back to school than August. You could also do a beach theme, where each person gets a different sea shell or fish. Better to create a unique collage of different creatures than the same thing repeated over and over. You could also do this with cars, famous paintings, dogs, cats, carrousel horses, Disney characters, flowers, or any other collection of items. In fact, just use stickers:Sticker Packs - Peaceable Kingdom Edited March 7, 2012 by bytebear Quote
Dravin Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Hey, how about making it even easier and just go do birthstones...I may be incorrect but I'm assuming she's cutting these out from colored paper, it'd be kinda hard to make birthstones recognizable in such a medium unless they all each have their own traditional cut that'd be recognized by everyone. pam Posted March 7, 2012 Author Report Posted March 7, 2012 Great ideas everyone. Some would be a little too much as we end up having to make about 500 of them during the month. So I have to do as simple as possible. Quote

That's correct. Using construction paper. Quote
