From a strictly mathematical viewpoint:

What equals 100%? what does it mean to give MORE than 100%? Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? we have all been in situations where someone wants you to give over 100% how about achieving 101%? what eguals 100% in life?

Here's a little mathamatical formula that might help you answer these.

If:

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

Are represented as:

Then:

H-A-R-D-W-O-R-K

8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98%

And:

K-N-O-W-L-E-D-G-E

11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96%

But;

A-T-T-I-T-U-D-E

1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100%

And, look how far the LOVE OF GOD will take you:

L-O-V-E-O-F-G-O-D

12+15+22+5+15+6+7+15+4=101%

Therefore, one can conclude with mathematical certainty that while hard work and knowledge will get you close, and Attitude will get you there, It's the Love of God that will put you over the top!

The only problem I have with this cute post is that % sign at the end of each calculation. If you were to add the numbers 1 to 26 consecutively you would get 351. So,

HARDWORK is really: 98 out of 351, not 100 (and so forth)

The numbers are cute, it's that % sign that's misleading. :hmmm: :)

This sort of thing is quite fascinating. There are also theories that the bible contains certain codes, for example: if you skip a certain amount of letters and take every letter you land on and spell it out, you get a certain word.

The intersting thing is this: first of all, the first five books of the old testament are called the 'Torah' Also, to help this make better sense, all languages flow toward Jerusalem. If you are west of Jerusalem, your language will read from left to right, if you are east of Jerusalem it will read right to left.

Now, if you take the book of Genesis in the Hebrew language and count every 49 letters, which is 7 squared, you get the word 'Torah'. It happens again in Exodus. It does not happen in Leviticus, but it spells out backwards in Numbers and Deuteronomy. Although, you don't find 'Torah' in Leviticus, if you count every seventh letter, rather than seven squared, you find 'Yaweh' Which is Jehovah. The first two books have 'Torah' spelled left to right, and the last two books have it spelled right to left with 'Jehovah' in the middle. So in summary, the Torah points towards God.

I thought that was quite interesting.

All this pales in comparison--imho--with the master mathematician/Rabbis who employ gematriya (or, gematria) to cull meaning from the scriptures. Would you believe that the author of 1 Kings knew the mathematical value of Pi? There's good evidence for it. Check out this website for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gematria

Basically, gematriya is simply assigning a numeric value to the letters of the Hebrew alphabet, and by adding the values of the letters in certain words and comparing them to other words, interesting meanings appear. An example I learned while studying Hebrew follows:

Man is created in the image of God. The Hebrew word for "in the image" is b'tzelem. B'tzelem's numeric value is 162. Now take the following Hebrew words: emet (faith); ahavah (love); bitul (self-nullification). When you add up the numeric values for these three words, you arrive at the total of 162.

b'tzelem = 162

(in the image)

emet + ahavah + bitul = 162

(faith) (love) (self-nullification)

So what does this teach us? The image of God is a combination of faith, love and self-nullification (i.e. humility/submission).

Not trying to get to deep, doctrinal, foolish or contentionous

but I've heard this before and while it sounds interesting and neat it raises these thoughts and questions in my mind-

How does this mathmatical coding figure into LDS views and the JST?

Were these put in the Bible/Torah as a mark from God or did man do that on his own?

Would these have been put in as a sign that someone was messing with scriptures?

LDS believe that scriptures have been altered. We tend to follow that you take the overall message. But something like this gets pretty specific.

Did JST mess this all up or does his translation also keep up with this?

Is this all just fun or a pattern set from Above so we could know?
