bytor2112 Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 but have become intrigued with "juicing". While visiting Utah, I tried some "mean green" and other concoctions and came back to Florida and decided to do a juice diet for over all health. My new Breville juicer just arrived!! Any recipes that you might share are much appreciated... Quote

Guest Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 I quit using the Breville. It's a pain in the butt to clean. How I used the Breville, I go through the produce and fruit bins in the fridge and drop anything that is in danger of spoiling in the machine, add one apple to anything and whatever it is would taste ok. Guest Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Get your maid or cleaning lady to clean it. That would be double jeopardy... paying for all that produce then paying for the cleaning lady to throw it out. Quote
applepansy Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Love juicing. Favorite is my green drink: a bag of spinach, a bunch of parsley or a few leaves of Kale, 4 to 6 apples, one lemon and one lime (peeled). 6 to 8 stalks of celery, 1/2 of fresh ginger root. (can adjust ingredients to taste or for amount). My whole family likes this. Even my husband. :) Quote
Milluw Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Also, here is four raw foodists that are passionate about juicing as well, i am also subscribed to them, they have soo many juicing ideas:https://www.youtube.com/user/FullyRawKristinahttps://www.youtube.com/user/liferegeneratorhttps://www.youtube.com/user/daradubinethttps://www.youtube.com/user/EasyToBeRaw Quote
bcguy Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 It is funny how these informertials can get the audiance all hyped up how there product is better for your health, then other products or just eating the vegtivles by them selves. But the fact that it is a illusion is fact. The only advantage to a juicer, is it is more convient to drink the veggies then to eat them other then that, eat the veggies and enjoy the pulp. Quote
dahlia Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I use my Vitamix to blend green juices all the time. I like it better than using a juice machine because I want to drink/eat all of the item, not just the juice. As to recipes, there are tons on the web and YouTube. I've also bought a juicing book, but once you see the various blends, you don't really need a book. I tend to use cucumber, spinach, celery, ginger, apple, and carrots. Not necessarily all at the same time and not necessarily in the same amounts. I make do with what I have. I find the purple color with blueberries turns me off; I'd rather have it green and use an apple, carrots, or 1/2 a banana that will blend in for the sweetness. I also don't use a ton of fruit (which is more like a smoothie than a health juice) because I'm trying to get the protein from the green veg (eating a mostly veg*n diet these days) and I'm diabetic. I don't need a pitcher full of fruit. If I were a better person, I'd have one every day, but find I'm not consistent more than once or twice a week. It's better than nothing. Quote
slamjet Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I can't get this out of my head whenever I read the subject line... Quote
Dr T Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 I am, I've had to change my diet and drink a smoothy every morning. I've tried blenders, three blade blenders and a juicer. My next thing to try though is the NutriBullet. I keep hearing it is the greatest thing to emulsify fruits and veggies. I look forward to buying it actually. Quote

dahlia Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 My first juice drink tasted like a thick glass of grass...mmm...mmmI had a glass of wheat grass juice at the hippie coop. I have eaten a lot of nasty veg*n food, but that was particularly gross. That said, I've also gotten used to foods I didn't care for at first, so maybe, given time, I'd grow to like the wheat grass. I doubt it though. For green juicing at home, throw in apple or banana or even carrot to sweeten it up. I'm not above using a bit of vanilla almond milk as well. After awhile, you can decrease the sweetness. Quote

dahlia Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 So, I joined a black vegetarian FB page and people were posting pictures of their juices. There was this beautiful beet juice w/other stuff in it. How do juiced beets taste? Is it very strong? Can I used canned beets - I don't know if we've got raw beets around here. It was very pretty; don't know what the teeth will look like after all that red, though. Quote
bcguy Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I once heard of a story of a mom who fed her baby so many beets, he turned purple! :) Quote
Kaelee Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 I love juicing. I have done an 11 day juice fast and a 17 day juice fast. About 10 days without solid food is my limit, then I get bored. So I just juice daily and eat one healthy meal, generally. It is very satisfying. I would consider myself a lazy juicer. I juice enough in the morning for the entire day, then clean it all up. I can't imagine washing everything several times a day. Also, I LOVE the mean green, so I mostly stick to that. Sometimes I add spinich or carrots. Quote
bcguy Posted March 30, 2013 Report Posted March 30, 2013 BTW, anyone here have any great stories how they lost alot of weight eating nothing but the best of healthy foods? Quote
