stellir Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I'm honestly shocked by the behavior & hostility on this website, assuming that most posters here are "good LDS" people who are trying to live Christ-like lives. Do you guys really treat the people see you every day who have different opinions than yours the way you've behaved on this topic, with the name-calling and the mockery? Quote
miztrniceguy Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Why do so few LDS extend their Christ-like beliefs and behavior to animals? I am so tired of LDS families not having animals because they are dirty or inconvenient or they hate them or whatever excuse. How can this behavior possibly be justified by someone who considers Christ as their ideal? How would Christ feel about pets in his home? I'm sure we all know the answer to that, so why do so few actually do anything about it? I'm seriously contemplating leaving the church over this issue.this has got to be the most rediculous post i have ever read. especially the last statement. that is so absurd it has troll written all over it.for the record, i got my first cat when i was 3 and had him til i was 18. of my 41 years, less than 5 have i not had a pet, as i was renting in other peoples homes. our family currently has 2 cats we have had for 4 years.absolutely absurd! pixiemom Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 First of all, President Hinckley does not have pets due to the fact that he lives in an apartment that does not allow pets. Secondly, Thank you for grouping all LDS families into one group. We loved being stereotyped.(We are a family of one dog and one cat) And last, I would seriously question where you testimony is. Where in the gospel does it say we have to have pets? Shouldn't we be basing our testimonies on the truthfulness of the gospel principals? I fully agree with you mr....... absolutely ludacris Quote

shanstress70 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Yeah! And that's another thing, you crazy Mormons!!! How dare you not have pets??? Actually, I've just been sitting here thinking about it, and I'd say 3/4 of all the LDS people I know have indoor pets and treat them like family. You must be hangin' with the wrong peeps, Stelli. BenRaines Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 If you so desire please explain how you come in to a place you have never been before and instead of saying hi you go on about how un Christ-like we all are about pet ownership and for that you are considering leaving the LDS faith. If you don't have the time or inclination that is fine. I don't spend too much time visiting with people who the first time they walk up to me start calling me names and insinuating that I am un Christ-like. I usually just walk away. Ben Raines Quote
shanstress70 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I'm not LDS, so please don't judge my friends here by my sarcastic attitude. It's just the heathen in me coming out. I do think it was rude of you to begin that way... not to mention how wrong you were. Quote

Can you give me a rough percentage of your LDS friends and family that have pets?I would venture to say that having a pet has more to do with personal preference that it does where we go to church. As far mas my friends also owning pets I would think it is about 85 %When my currents pets die I don't think I want to take on the responsibility of having more. We would like to travel and I don't like the idea of leaving them. I hope this doesn't taint your opinion of me or the church. :) Quote

My husband's family growing up always had pets, one dog and several cats. I can't imagine basing your church membership on whether the majority of LDS members have pets or not - very strange indeed. BenRaines Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 Do the chickens, pigs, cows, calves, rabbits, sheep, goats and all those animals we raised when I was growing up count as pets. Some we ate and some we didn't. One of our goats thought he was a dog until he met a neighbors dog. Then he became a duck. A DEAD DUCK. Ben Raines Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted March 9, 2007 Report Posted March 9, 2007 I actually think it's unfair that people can have animals as pets, but animals can't have people as pets. Didn't Christ preach equality? In fact, why can't animals have the priesthood? I know several monkeys who are smarter than some members. B) Quote

And a pet could also have a pet if their human got them a pet (from Dharma & Greg).M. Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Well true, all cats own their "owners," even though the owners fool themselves that they're in charge. B) Quote
Brother Dorsey Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 If compassion and love for animals were important to President Hinckley, then I imagine he actually could have pets in that fancy apartment, isn't he the boss after all???Actually, the apartment the Lords Prophet lives in is actually very humble and small and whether or not he's allowed to have a pet is of no consequence as he is always away on church business and is hardly there anyway. Or do you think it would be okay to leave a dog or cat cooped up for days without companionship? Or perhaps the church could pay someone to look after his pet and feed it and play with it?PS: I've had pets all my life as most of the families in my ward....so, tell me, where is it that you get your information? Guest MrsS Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Well true, all cats own their "owners," even though the owners fool themselves that they're in charge. B)Now watch what you say CK - you may have fooled yourself into thinking that you were in charge -It is a FACT that I am and always have been in charge. I have been Cat Owned for nearly 30 years now. (not the same cats mind you) All of us know who is in charge. It is the one who buys the food, opens said food and puts it into the food dish. The one who turns on the water tap. The one who empties and cleans up the litter box. The one who they allow to sleep in the big comfy bed. I am Alpha Cat-Human - and EVERYONE in this house knows it. From Dear Husband down to Ethel and Fred. (Ethel & Fred are the two cats who own me right now.) StelliR - like Ben said, don't let the "door" hit you in the butt going out. Oh - and make darn sure you LOCK that door so you can't get back in! If it looks like a troll, smells like a troll, talks (rants-n-raves) like a troll - IT'S A TROLL.
