mom_of_jcchlsm Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 We have six sugar gliders. Over the years, we've had snakes, turtles, cats, frogs & toads, a hamster, and lot of fish & aquatic invertibrates. Thinking about it, I think the only LDS I know who don't have pets are either allergic to them or live in un-pet-friendly situations. That was just a really wierd rant, wasn't it? Whoa. Quote
Outshined Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Two cats, three dogs, and two guinea pigs (and my kids act like primates on occasion)... Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Hahaha, classic, Outshined. About your kids, I mean. :) Quote
Palerider Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 We have 2 Female Cats....named Bailey and Pebbles..... Quote
Winnie G Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 You must be kidding right? We have pets and at times could have been a small farm for that matter. Dogs cats hamsters birds, (Breeding Budgies) I bred them, if it had four legs at some point we owned them. I had to sit here and think of all my LDS friends and you know what? they all have one or two pets, cats dogs one has Cockatiels, Talk at to much trouble and dirty. One of our old bishops went every were with his little scotty dog all the youth grow up knowing his buddy and when he told every one at fast sunday his long time friend had died the youth were weeping the rest of the meeting. He told them he know that he would see his dear friend some day. So there we are just as much pet lovers as the rest of them. By the way now that I think of it it my non-member friends who don't have pets for the remarks you stated in your beginning post. we are who we are it does not make us any better or worse. Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 I actually think it's unfair that people can have animals as pets, but animals can't have people as pets. Didn't Christ preach equality? In fact, why can't animals have the priesthood? I know several monkeys who are smarter than some members. B)But you are wrong...Ck, Dr. T is owned by a cat.And to the nut who started this thread...Huh? Are you KIDDING?????? In my ward....closer to 90% have pets, my dog is on my lap as I post this!!!Give me a break!!!!!!! Quote
Dror Posted June 25, 2007 Report Posted June 25, 2007 I'm seriously contemplating leaving the church over this issue. You've got to be kidding.I, for one, absolutely love animals (especially cats!), but my apartment doesn't allow them. Don't know whether or not President Hinckley has a pet, and I don't really care. Lots and lots of LDS people do have pets, my friend--if you think they don't, you obviously don't know many LDS people. The Bible does teach us that the creatures God created are good, but that doesn't mean all of us HAVE to keep pets. This isn't an LDS issue, anyway. Plenty of people of other faiths don't keep pets, either.Dror (Hebrew for 'sparrow') Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 LOL!!! He's a sparrow and he loves cats!!!!! Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I thought the same thing Friend Did you ever hear the story of the sparrows in NT Jerusalem? The little orphan boys who had no place to live used to live in the cracks of the walls of the Temple and in makeshift tents alone the Temple walls and would survive by lighting torches and following the priest and leaders of the Temple home...lighting their way after the sun went down...The men would then pay the boys 2 pence. these boys were called Jerusalam sparrows. Or: Dror's . They called them that because they were so numerous, and as worthless as the tiny sparrow. This may be one of the reasons Jesus used sparrow as a reference in his sermon on the mount, Because he knew that these lost boys were valuable. Quote
Dr T Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I've never heard that before. I like that story Yed. Thank you :) Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I've never heard that before. I like that story Yed. Thank you :)I know I must sound like I am in the employ of Body and Brock Thoene....but I am not....I learned that from the AD Chronicals series written by this husband and wife team...these are AWSOME books, and full of little tidbits like that about New Testiment times. Dr T Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I told my wife. She would love that type of thing. I'm sure she'll fly through them. Thanks for the heads up. Quote
MaidservantX Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 We have a rabbit named Angel and I know she was sent by God to be part of our family. She has a spiritual mission. She is intelligent and unutterably intuitive and communicative. Quote
pam Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Why do so few LDS extend their Christ-like beliefs and behavior to animals? I am so tired of LDS families not having animals because they are dirty or inconvenient or they hate them or whatever excuse. How can this behavior possibly be justified by someone who considers Christ as their ideal? How would Christ feel about pets in his home? I'm sure we all know the answer to that, so why do so few actually do anything about it? I'm seriously contemplating leaving the church over this issue. It's the only responses I could come up with. Most ridiculous thing I've read here yet. Quote
Saab900man Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 OK I am going to go against the popular posts on this one. I don't think it is right to be so negative to someone for believing this is a issue to leave the Church over. I think some of you could have tired to be a little nice and helpful (Christ-like). This is a really bad reason to leave any Church but I think if Christ were in front of this person he would not make fun of beliefs. This may have been a serious question. not that it matters but I have 2 dogs and a cat Quote
Guest Emma Hale Smith Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 I hate cats. I have one and kick it every chance I get. I am also an evil apostate. I think Stelli is probably right. Emma Quote

I hear that Pres Hinckley even drive cars, which we all know is creating greenhouse gases, destroying the ozone, and making the African Death Spider have asthma! And those LDS that drive SUVs and have more that 1.8 kids! How selfish they are! Don't they know that the leading intellects today, like George Clooney, Madonna, Sheryl "one square please" Crow and Cher have told us it is bad?!I'm seriously contemplating leaving the church because of this outright disregard for popular causes. Am I overreacting?? Quote
FrankJL Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Are you Al Gore? And where are these LDS families with less then 2 kids? Don't see many of those.. And (part II)...I don't care what Sheryl has to say, I need more then one square, some times I require large multiples of squares. Quote
