Bini Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Have a song that's not a hymn but has a good message? Let's hear it!Here's my pick: "Just Give Me A Reason" duet by Alecia Beth Moore and Nate Ruess. It's such a beautiful song about two people trying to learn to love each other again.Your turn. Quote
Bini Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Bytor, you may be in luck. Big butts used to be out but thanks to Kim, curves are making a comeback. Gwen, ergh! Video is not available on this platform. Lame! Unfortunately, the link I used had a lot of typos and some of the lyrics are actually inaccurate. Next time I'll choose more carefully. Quote
Lakumi Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I like big butts.......and I can not lieYou other brothers can't denyThat when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waistAnd a round thing in your faceYou get...you know I'll just stop there:lol: Quote
bytor2112 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 This was a favorite of mine back in 1970: Quote
Jenamarie Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Trip the Light, and the music video made that goes along with it. If you ever need your faith in humanity restored... Quote

ViolinGirl Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 LOL Bytor! I was wondering where all the Irish songs were! Check out stuff by the Elders. They are fantastic! Quote

It's such a beautiful song about two people trying to learn to love each other again.Your turn.I saw the thread title, and before even opening it, this was the first song that came to mind. I absolutely love this song. It's so different -- not a breakup song, but a song about trying to stay together and work through things and make them right again. And the vocal pairing is unlikely, but incredible. I like big butts....honky tonk badonkadonk ;-)Seriously? Quote
Windseeker Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 There are so many great songs out there. I really like the encouraging message in Lions! by LightsLions make you braveGiants give you faithDeath is a charadeYou don't have to feel safe to feel unafraid Quote
Wingnut Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 I only just watched this video for the first time. Except for the singer's "dancing," this makes me like this song for its powerful message even more than I already did. And here's a similarly-themed oldie (not really)-but goody. Quote
Lakumi Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 Jesus Christ Superstar, its a movie as well as a concept album, and a play Quote

Except for the singer's "dancing," this makes me like this song for its powerful message even more than I already did. You stole mine. Parts of that song apply to me, and it's one of my absolute favorites. and The first is one I grew up singing in my old church, the second is one of my movie favorites(I decided against any songs from Rent because of Pam. ) Quote
Wingnut Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 I love Rent! I also love Ell Shaddai. Very moving. Quote
NightSG Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 What counts as "not a hymn?" Personally, Just a Little Talk with Jesus would be on my list, but I'm sure it's in some (non-LDS, obviously) hymnal somewhere. Quote
Bini Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 Wingnut, it's really a beautiful song. I've always liked Pink, she has an amazing voice but a lot of her music is angry girl stuff. Still, in my opinion, she is one of the more talented artists of my generation but greatly underrated. The duet is amazing too with Nate Ruess, who I was unfamiliar with until this song. It kind of sort of has a 70's ish vibe.. Maybe early 80's. Quote

I really do like her!You weren't familiar with Nate Ruess? Really? That's too bad. He's the lead singer of Fun. and before that The Format. Quote

I thought I read he was Idaho native? Maybe that was somebody else. But I love his sound. Quote
Jenamarie Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 His voice actually reminds me of another performer, Mika, which reminds me of another song with a positive message. Quote
Wingnut Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) Some of these have good messages. Some are just uplifting and happy-making. :) Grant-Lee Phillipes - Good Morning HappinessAmos Lee - Sweet Pea Edited July 28, 2013 by Wingnut Quote
