Last Saturday my wife and I fulfilled a ward assignment by working in the temple. I worked in the kitchen and she was in the laundry. I came to the realization that just being in the temple, whether you are doing proxy work or not, is an amazing experience unlike any you'll have elsewhere. I came to another realization as well: I'm a slacker. Neither my wife nor I have attended any sort of temple session in 6 months or so. I love going to the temple and each time I go I wonder why I didn't go sooner.

I'm sure we're not the only ones who are like this, either. We have 2 kids and my wife is 7 months pregnant with our third, but that's merely an excuse, not a valid reason. We can make the time to go if we put forth the effort, but we don't.

Any ideas how to improve?

Note: :excl: I have never been to the temple as an adult only as a youth for proxy baptisms. That being said we can move onto business. :excl:

Evert 3 months my ward rents a bus and they meet at the church. A few families volunteer to look after the kids of the parents who go at the church feed them lunch and pop in a movie and do crowd control for the ones not interested in the movie. (I would imagine)

For us the Palmyra temple is about 2 hours away so its an all day thing the families who look after the kids generally get relived of their posts about half way.

The ward activities coordinator odd as this may sound coordinates all this she does the following:

1 ) calls the temple sets up a ward temple day

2 ) hads out sign up sheets for the rear detachment in charge of children

3 ) makes the arangments for the bus

4 ) hands out a sign up sheet for couples, and individuals interested in going (due to the limited setting on the bus)

I don't know if your ward/branch has the ability to copy this format but I have heard that a lot of people who wouldn't have normally gone that get caught up on what to do with the kids and that kind of thing througly enjoy it.

Maybe you could suggest it to your EQ pres. or your bishop? thats just my two cents on the matter,

Our temple is less than 30 mins away, so the travel isn't an issue. I was more or less looking for thoughts on how to discipline myself. I really have no excuse to not go. I love attending with my wife, but we may have to go seperately until our kids get older.

We have made it our date night. Before living in Las Vegas we lived out of the country and could only attend once a year when we returned home to Calif. When living in Calif it was almost four hours to the temple each way so we would make quarterly trips. Usually with other couples and would leave children with adult baby sitter or older teenager on Friday night. Drive up to Oakland, stay over night at Marriott courtyard, dinner with friends, temple session in the morning and drive home.

Now that we live in Las Vegas it is one of the free nights of the week, Wednesday, to go to the temple after work. Of course we have no kids at home so not soccer, softball, plays, school nights, etc.

We are about 2-3 hours from the nearest temple. We just go. Simple. Just go. Leave the kids with family, friend, or babysitter and do it to it. I pray I will live to see the day that there is one here in the REAL ZION.

I found that if you schedule something, chances are that it will get done. I knew someone who scheduled everything he needed to do, everyday. This included scheduling play time with his children. He always acomplished everything. I'm not that good, but I find if it is in my Daytimer, it will usually get done. I realise this doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me. I try to schedule a Temple trip once a month. It's a 2.5hr drive one way. Do I make it every month, no. But when I don't I reschedule as soon as possible, and go the next time. That's what I do because I also love  being at the Temple. I find it helps me to regain my focus and commitments.

Good Luck to you. I hope you find something :animatedidea: that works for you so you can attend more often.

Yeah, but....ok I have no rebuttle to that. I guess we just need to do it. We've been thinking about finding a couple in the ward with kids and trade off with them, but thinking won't get us to the temple.

I'm surprised that Kansas City (Missouri, right?) doesn't have it's own temple yet - we have 2 in Alberta, granted southern Alberta has a large Mormon population.

Like we used to say on our mission in Kentucky: "Burn the south and do baptisms for the dead."

I guess we should've included Missouri in that group, eh a-train? Hahaha, j/k.

i think the real reason we dont have one in kcmo is that many people will panic and think it's almost time...causing a massive exodus back to here....

however...if one opened in olathe,ks...not so much on the radar...hmmmmm.......... :hmmm:
