Guest Doctrine Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 So after reading the church hand book it says the teacher selects topics to teach, Does that mean we don't have to follow the book in order but just teach the lessons that the new or investigators should learn. Quote

One thing a teacher should avoid (after looking at the clock) is saying something like, "We need to move on". Ending a discussion so that all the material they have repaired can be completed before the class period ends. The Traveler Quote
Lakumi Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Is this class for investigators and newbies? If so... I do wonder why there were so many people in it, I don't think they were new, and I am the only investigator there... maybe they like the class? Quote
skippy740 Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Ward missionaries and the ward mission leader will typically attend this class. Quote

Lakumi Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 It was more then that, I met, or rather was met by more or less everyone. And sometimes people who weren't there before would come... maybe its just this ward, this town does odd things Quote
Quin Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 Lakumi....In our ward there's typically 20-30 people in the GP class...MAYBE an investigator, newbie, or 3. - Missionaries & their ilk (all the way up to the mission prez & wife if they're in the building)- Teacher & their spouse- Bishop or bishopric rep and their spouses- EQ & RS reps & their spouses- Whomever feels the desire to be there (or conversely, NOT be elsewhere)- Whomever has been counseled to be there (time to get back to basics!).... And then... - a handful of investigators & newbies (but not always)It allows it to A) be a real class B ) actually BE a class. There are times when there are no newbies. If the class weren't ongoing, then when there WAS an investigator... It would create a mad scramble trying to set things up for them / a lot of pressure on both them, and whomever is supposed to prep & teach the class. Q Quote
mnn727 Posted November 24, 2013 Report Posted November 24, 2013 I was called to teach this in a local Federal Prison - we had 12 - 15 men there every week 3 members (who were themselves imprisoned) and the rest investigators, the class lasted 90 minutes - it was great, we really got into discussing the lessons. Greatest calling I have ever had. Of course by the time you get through security going in, get escorted to the chapel, teach the lesson, fellowship a bit and get escorted out - your Sunday afternoon was pretty much gone - but I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything. We did go in order, but with the extra class time we could discuss a number of side topics if there were any questions. Qwow the ward here I'd guess there are like 30-50 people in total, but I live in a smaller city/big town...back in Ottawa I imagine there are moreAnd even more in Toronto and the GTA (which has a temple, my personal favourite) Quote
