He could leap tall buildings, fun faster than a speeding bullet........... yada yada yada. Hard to take this all seriously.

the reports from both friend or foe are that he was unusually strong. is that a problem for you?

Remember that Trident wants us to all believe that he was a Navy SeAl and is superduper macho and if someone else is macho, then the spotlight goes off the Navy Sealitude that Trident wants us to believe.

I'd challenge him to a dramatic reading of the first chapter of War and Peace, and I'd beat him like a racing horse at the Kentucky derby.

Okay Rulan Gardner?! Or not! I am 5'10' 240, I can squat a mac truck, run a 6:00 mile, and Joe Smith woulda torn me a new one! The prophet was very athletic, and very strong, he probably coulda played in the Big Leagues(Baseball) had he been alive in the 40's and 50's as a 20-30 year old.

That's right. He probably could have jumped over the Empire State Building, towed the Queen Mary with his teeth, and bowled a perfect game.

This coming from the man who has tried very hard to prove me a liar, and failed every time.

It's just that there is so much thrown around about how great this guys was. if he was a great wrestler, then he'd have a track record to prove it. He was strong.... as compared to what? There used to be a wrestler with the name "Mr. Perfect" and from reading this thread it sounds like many people think Smith was just that.

Hey, I may not be as strong as he was but Trident and I were in the Navy sEaLs together for two tours of duty so I know lots of tricky stuff and stuff, and I am quick and I am wiry, and I am clever like a fox see.

You deserve a smack in the mouth. Maybe the problem is that you've never had one. You accuse me of being a liar in another thread and then pull this? A part of me wants to know how your logic works and another part of me doesn't want to understand it.

Nope.

Restornu -

Dottie has had some health problems but seems to be doing fine now.

Porter -

That move wasn't invented until long after Smith's death. I'd sucker him in and hit it. Physical combat is a lot more than about strength. I am ALWAYS the strongest guy on the mat. But I don't always win.

Glad to hear the Dotster is doing better. I have fond regards for her. She was the first moderator to ever suspend me. (Kinda brings a tear to my eye.) We grew to be friends. She's cool. I appreciated her ability to mederate witth a great sense of humor.

I kinda miss the folks over there: Scott Quantz, "Biceps" Bob, etc. Maybe, Your Gadfly will have to visit over there.

Here's a couple

There is one thing more, which I witnessed, I will relate: It was at the time Porter Rockwell was in jail, in Missouri. His mother went to see him at the jail, and the Missourians told her that if she would raise a certain amount of money and give them they would let her son go. Joseph started out to get the money. He came to a large crowd of young men who were wrestling, that being the popular sport in those days. Among the boys there was a bully from La Harpe, I believe. He had thrown down everyone on the ground who took hold of him. When Joseph came to the crowd he told them what he wanted, passed around the hat, raised what money he could and then went into the ring to take part with the young men and boys in their games. So he was invited to wrestle with this bully. The man was eager to have a tussle with the Prophet, so Joseph stepped forward and took hold of the man. The first pass he made Joseph whirled him around and took him by the collar and seat of his trowsers and walked out to a ditch and threw him in it. Then, taking him by the arm, he helped him up and patted him on the back and said. "You must not mind this. When I am with the boys I make all the fun I can for them." (The Juvenile Instructor 27 (1892) )

1832 Tarring

Joseph kicks

Joseph got a foot at liberty and kicked one of the men, and knocked him down off the steps, and the print of his head and shoulders were visible on the ground in the morning.

Warren Waste

Warren Waste, who was the strongest man in the western reserve considered himself perfectly able to handle Joseph alone, but when they got hold of him Waste cried out, "do not let him touch the ground, or he will run over the whole of us." Waste suggested in carrying him to cross his legs, for they said that would make it easier for the Prophet, but that was done in consequence of the severe pain it would give to the small of the back.

Like I said, all this about what a physical phenomenon this guy was supposed to have been, is a bit difficult to swallow.

Phenom?

I don't know about that but he did in the Triple Crown and a gold medal in 100 meter freestyle in the Mexico City Olympics, not to mention the 1978 Tour de France, not to mention the idinerod.

I understand that Trident. There is a story of him getting 'whipped.'
