• Wear special clothes or head coverings for religious observance

• Adhere to special dietary restrictions for religious reasons

• Fast or refrain from food for a period of time

• Wait until marriage to have sex

 

CATEFORY 4 EXTREMISM

Sometimes Considered to be Extreme

6% to 19% indicate this is “very” or “somewhat” extreme

• Read the Koran (or Qu'ran) silently in a public place

• Regularly donate money to a religious community (tithing)

• Abstain from alcohol or tobacco for religious reasons

• Read the Bible silently in a public place

• Attend church, synagogue, or temple on a weekly basis

• Volunteer to help people in need

So, in other words, any person of religion is an "extremist". 

What group is this?  The National Atheist Alliance?

Why didn't they just label anyone with any religion as a terrorist?  Tho' I will say there is something a bit high on that first one, use religion to justify violence.

Some survey JoJo posted awhile back that pointed to pretty much everyone as communist, or commie sympathizers. JoJo seems to believe that most LDS people are communist, as well. I guess we're all religious extremist communists?

How did you come to that conclusion?  You've simply made a number of incorrect assumptions without asking any clarifying questions.  The fact is that many LDS are deceived into believing in some part of the communist manifesto.  I'm reading and quoting from prophets and general authorities of the Church, all of whom condemn socialism/communism.  All those on food stamps, WIC, Medicaid, etc., are deceived into thinking it's OK to accept those programs and those programs are part of socialism/communism.  Being deceived doesn't necessarily make a person a communist; it just means they are deceived.

Hi! I'm a MORMON REDNECK BIKER! (I sure am!) I ride an 01 Softail, 17 inch apes, thunderheader exhaust. AND I'm a redneck. I'm first and foremost a MORMON (I'm one of those who are very comfortable being called a MORMON). I fish, hunt, own a chainsaw, a hoof pick, do missionary work, heck, I wear religious garments, I even shine up pretty well enough for 'em to let me into a temple. I think men trying to be women is verbotten as well as women trying to be men is verbotten. I also stand for the pledge of allegiance, salute the flag, adhere to special dietary customs for religious reasons and I don't drink alcohol or use tobacco. The missus and I aren't just hitched, we got sealed too! I make a mean lemonade, know how to churn butter, make ice cream, so, I guess I'm a redneck biker religious extremist. If they can label the tea party as a terrorist organization because of small govt ideals, and they label Mormons a cult because we disbelieve the trinity, then any person of faith will be an extremist to someone who is not.

The issue is not the results of these polls or what these labels mean.  The issue is that we now live in a time that if anyone disagrees with us we're enemies and we must NEVER consider that there is any good in them.

Step 2: Use that label to justify Government surveillance of those groups

Step 3: Equate extremism with domestic terrorism

Step 4: Begin placing members of these groups on terrorist watch lists, no-fly lists, refuse applications for firearm purchases, etc.

Step 5: Propose restrictive laws to limit the rights of said individuals

Step 6: Vilify organized religious groups, cancel tax-exempt status, associate with criminal activity

Step 7: Relax, and let the media and public outrage do the work for you.

you forgot step eight: Make sure none of the members of said organization have influential friends, unless you can take their friends down with them.
I'm probably wrong about which step that one is though.

Well said. I used to read my bible openly in very secular UNH and no one cared. That was only about ten years ago, so there is hope.
