It's been going at my ward for the entire two decades I've been there.  One new bishop tried to put a stop to it, but it resulted in such a mass uprising that he caved.  It is surely not the most spiritual event my ward holds, but with the chili cookoff taking up half the evening, it's at least as fellowshippey as the Christmas party.  Or the time the Elders' Quorum had an activity at the gun range.
