Fether Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) Saw this on Facebook and I can definitely relate. When I first went into sales, I was drawn in by the freedom coupled with wealth my boss had. He was extremely active in The gospel and was one of the greatest young men’s President I had ever seen, this was all do to his ability to choose his hours and to make large sums of money in a short period of time. He also lived far below his means. I saw his life style and said I wanted it. So after praying about it and feeling we had confirmation, my wife and I moved to Vegas with him to do sales. There were some times where it was going so bad and I was constantly up at night wondering if this is all a sign for us to go or if God was resting my desire to accomplish what I set out to do. But Doctrine and Covenants 7:22 “if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things.” fast forward to today and I am immensely glad I stuck it out. Anyone have any similar experiences or insights in this comment? Edited October 24, 2019 by Fether Anddenex, Colirio and MrShorty 3 Quote
Still_Small_Voice Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 I prayed about leaving New York for Utah over seven years ago and felt like we should go. We left federal housing with some money saved and moved to an apartment in Utah. There have been challenges for us over the last seven years but now we have a growing retirement account, about $78,000 in equity in our home and I have employment that I really like making about 35% more in wages. Just for clarification on my part...you meant that you and your wife moved to Vegas to do sales alongside the guy...right? If it was indeed as you wrote, and your wife moved out without you and with the guy, I too probably would have a very tough time with that proposal. I don't think I'd be able to do that. On the otherhand, if it is as I expect (a typo) my posts are rife with typos constantly. I even go back to edit them and there are still typos most of the time. In regards to what I expect you were writing or meant... Does that mean that you are doing well these days with the sales or that the business is doing very well these days? Fether 1 Quote

The first time I wrote that sentence it was a grammatical monstrosity so I had to fix it. I remember looking at that part of the phrase and telling myself “type my wife and I”. Somehow that message didn’t make it to my hand lol. Quote

With the clarification...not the exact same thing, but something related... When I first graduated from college and was trying to find work it was difficult to find work. I was down to a few dollars after paying rent on our small place, and was faced with the fact that I needed to pay tithing. I could pay tithing and have nothing left over except maybe $30 for the rest of the month for food at which point we'd have nothing, or keep it and at least have enough to maybe pay utilities and some other bills at the end of the month. I decided to pay tithing. Now, this does not always happen, and I'm not saying that this will happen if one pays tithing, but it happened to me. Shortly after paying tithing, I got blessed to find a decent paying job. It was enough to support us and some more schooling on top of that. I stayed at that job basically through graduate school and it paid for my schooling (at the time, university degrees were a lot less money and thus one could afford school, housing and such. Admittedly, mine WAS a full time job, and I did get grants as well, but it enabled me to pay for schooling and housing and bills with it, where as many kids/students these days have to take out loans to afford such things). Anddenex Posted October 25, 2019 Report Posted October 25, 2019 Yes. I understand this all to well. There is one part I would add to this quote. What if you pray, chase your dreams, and have no confirmation one way or the other. In that light, how do you understand when it is a sign from God to give up and move on, or simply another test? Because you can't fall back on, “if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things," as there was no previous witness. Also, in light of Elder Holland's experience with his son, when they prayed they were lead down the wrong path. The conclusion was they would know this path was definitely the wrong one and that is why they received confirmation to take the wrong path. That adds a different dynamic to this thought also. dprh 1 Quote
