askandanswer Posted June 27, 2021 Report Posted June 27, 2021 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Old Testament | Isaiah 7:14) Can anyone tell me where and how this prophecy was fulfilled? Apart from prophecies about the birth of Jesus that use the name Immanuel, I haven't been able to find any instances in scripture of Jesus being called Immanuel. Quote
laronius Posted June 27, 2021 Report Posted June 27, 2021 Matthew quotes the scripture in relation to Jesus' birth adding it's interpretation that "God is with us" so it's fulfillment is found not so much as his name rather than who he was. Similar I think to the prophecy found is Isaiah 9:6 "...and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." askandanswer, Traveler and LDSGator 3 Quote

Anciently it was believed that a divine oracle (such as a prophet) wrote or spoke by divine enlightenment that could only be understood through divine tokens (Holy Ghost). Isaiah's own son is the immediate fulfilment of this prophecy. I'll post arguments for it later tonight, but you can look at the parallels in chapters 7-9. Quote
