Hemidakota Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 What are the teachings in Gospel Principles on the subject? That manual is approved by the First presidency for teaching the gospel to new members and I know it has a chapter on the pre-existence. I shall see if I can find it.LDS.org - Sunday School Table of Contents - Gospel Principles
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 That's the Gospel Doctrine teacher's manual. I am looking for trhe Gospel Principles one - the one for teaching new members. I've had a look for the actual manual on our bookcases but we had some rewiring done and the electrician mixed up the books from all our bookshelves. It's taking ages to sort them all out again. I used to just be able to put my hand on any book but now I haven't a clue what's where.
Moksha Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 We simply do not know the Heavenly process of spirit creation. That is both honest and makes sense. Doesn't stop us from speculating though....
Hemidakota Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Willowthewisp, check the link again....I was having one those 'Neuron making their own choice moments.' LOL This question will only come by thorough study and sincere desire to know directly. Now, you will not be allowed to post that answer. [humor]
WillowTheWhisp Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 Thank you. That is quite simple in reference to Heavenly Parents. That is all we need to know.
Elgama Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 That is both honest and makes sense. Doesn't stop us from speculating though.... but this topic does rather make me feel the same way I do when my parents discuss their sex lives its like no thanks way more information than my young brain needs. For the original question we don't know but if God is all powerful presumably He creates the way he chooses or the way the universal rules say he should and all the NOs in the world from either side in the debate do not change how God did things. Personally I don't want to understand yet got more important things to worry about like living my life the way God wants me too. But are you telling me you know exactly how God created us?I am just wondering Gaea what is your beliefs? right now you seem very ill informed about a lot of religious groups and I am curious what your own background is? and why if you believe our faith is so bad - you feel the need to put so much thought into it instead of sharing your own beliefs? right now the Latter Day Saints are doing all the missionary work.-Charley
pam Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I Am Not Away That All Posts Are The Same, Thus Replying To a Quote Made Would Be A New subject And question. Thus New Questions On The Same Topic Would Come About. The Constructton of The Question Is Not Always Accuatly Displayed Thus I Need To Refrace What Im Asking In A New Thred So I have The Right answers. If Answers Differ Then I Know The The Previous Thred Praced Was Not Really Asking The Right Question To Begin With. Thus It Becomes Clearer In A New Thred Than The Previous one. Just a suggestion..it would also be easier to read your post if you didn't capitalize every single word. Just a suggestion.
WANDERER Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 The capitalisation is a little hard to read...but it did make sense when talking about becoming a god and God...in this case capitalisation in the wrong place can become confusing. To each their own. It's a small issue isn't it.
Hemidakota Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 Something that John A. Widtsoe made a small comment about: Celestial Marriage. If sex is eternal, it follows of necessity that the marriage covenant may also be eternal. It is not a far step to the doctrine that after the work on earth has been completed and exaltation in the next estate has been attained, one of the chief duties of men and women will be to beget spiritual children. These spirits, in turn, in the process of time, will come down upon an "earth," there to obtain an acquaintance with gross matter, and through the possession of earthly bodies to control more fully, and forever, the manifold forces surrounding them. It is a reward of intelligent development, which we may become to other spiritual beings, what our God has been to us. Among those who understand the Gospel, marriage may be, and indeed should be, for time and eternity. Marriage that lasts only during earth life is a sad one, for the love established between man and woman, as they live together and rear their family, should not die, but live, and grow richer with the eternal years. Marriage for time and eternity establishes a unique relation between husband and wife. Their children belong to them eternally; the family, continued from this earth into the next world, becomes a unit in eternal life; and all family relations are shaped in anticipation of an undying relationship.(John A. Widtsoe, A Rational Theology, p.157)
Guest Seraphim Posted March 18, 2008 Report Posted March 18, 2008 I'm closing this thread because Gaea decided to open another thread on the same topic.
