SmilingRedhead Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I was just reminiscing about my country of birth, Denmark, and thought it would be fun to see if any of you out there are Danes or ex-Danes or went on your missions to Denmark - or have anything to do with Denmark in any other way?? Or even if you don't but want to ask any questions about Denmark, then please do so. :) I'm getting withdrawal symptoms from lack of 'Danishness' Quote
Moksha Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 So which is better: Danish pastries or French pastries? Quote
SmilingRedhead Posted March 26, 2008 Author Report Posted March 26, 2008 Hahaha I was just waiting for a question like that! Well I'd have to say I'm slightly biased... Danish pastries are the best of course! Quote
havejoy Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 My daughter spent her junior year of high school as a foreign exchange student in Denmark. The next year we had a girl from Denmark as a foreign exchange student live in our home. Quote
poulsenll Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Poulsen is a good Danish name. My paternal ancester was converted in Denmark and came to the US. He was called by Brigham Young to settle southern Idaho and helped found the city of Preston, Idaho. Larry P Quote

As you know, Denmark is a small country and in the church most people know of each other. It's kinda fun like that. :) Quote

Canuck Mormon Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 My ex-wife's Grand parents were from Denmark. Oh wait, you wanted positive things I love Vanilla Crunts' (sp?) and pretty much any danish cookie. I was taught a Danish saying once (forgive the spelling): :kiki te lofta (look to the ceiling)(Usually done with a drink at your lips) Quote
utcowboy Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Most of the equipment that my company buys comes from Denmark. I do most of the tech work, so I have a Danish to English dictionary on my desk. Quote

Maya Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I just got contact with my grandfathers siters family, she moved to Danmark and actually her son married my mother... so I have family there too. Dansk is almost alike norwegean when written, but it is difficult to understand when they speak...like hot potatoes in their mouth... Anyone who can dansk can go and write in teh Scandinavian forum.. at the moment called norwegean froum... help to get it a bit alive... and finnish in the finnish one ... Quote
Hemidakota Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Wat zal transpireren wanneer anti-Christus zijn fruit onder de Stam van Dan zal dragen? [close?] lol Quote
SmilingRedhead Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Posted March 28, 2008 Thanks for all the replies. It's great to hear from you all. Anyone else out there...Keep 'em coming! :)Checkerboy - So by that you're saying you're a dog??? LOLCanuck - Good attempt at your Danish spelling :) Correct spelling would be 'Kig til loftet'. I've never heard that term before in relation to drinking... but then I never did go out drinking utcowboy - Cool! If you ever get stuck on any Danish language issues just let me know :)Hemidakota - What on earth were you saying in your last post!!?? LOL It sounded like a mixture of Dutch (from Netherlands), German and somebody who's not very good at English... with a hot potato in their mouth... hahaha I've actually never heard of that 'Dan Tribe Theory'. I looked it up and found this little snippet... "The tribe of Dan in Denmark? Many Anglo-Israelist preachers also claim that Denmark supposedly is of the tribe of Dan of Israel. But the people of Denmark (in Danish, Danmark) are Germanic, just as the other Nordic people and the Normans, the Anglo-Saxons, the Dutch and the Germans are. (It seems that at least some of the Normans had by 1066 lost their Germanic language, but that does not change anything.)" Mailis - Yeah, I hear the hot potato thing a lot LOL... I guess I can understand Norwegian quite well when spoken but best in written form. I added my Danish intro to the Norwegian part a while ago :) Quote
