My family is reading a chapter of The Book of Mormon and Old Testament every night. We started just reading the OT, but when it was just talking about the laws, all the things that would get people the death penalty, etc., we decided to add a chapter of the BOM to our routine because it was more uplifting. We're in more positive parts in the OT now and I can't wait to get to Psalms! I love it.

I'm trying to read the whole Bible for the first time in my life. I'm also reading the teachings of Joseph Smith. Interesting reading.

Congrats...my own children struggle through the Old Testament. To make it interesting, grab a study guide or when something catches your curiosity, keep a journal to record your feelings pertaining to that verse.

The last twelve minor prophets of the OT is what I find quite fascinating.

It's easier if you do it at the same time every day. It becomes a habit. Our stake president said he made morning prayer a habit by doing that as soon as he put his shoes on. Now he finds himself praying every time he puts his shoes on.

If there's something that exciting on TV, you could always record it. It's just a matter of priorities. :) Or you could listen to it on CD while you're driving somewhere or at home cooking. My brother-in-law does that.

I'm reading the Book of Mormon and also the Old Testament, the latter because my daughter is doing seminary and it's the OT year and we've had a bit of a challenge with her not being able to get to the classes so we're studying it together now as an encouragement to her as she was supposed to do Home Study after it was decided I wasn't permitted to teach her. I'm still getting a lot out of it.

I try my best to read daily. I notice an immediate difference when i don't read versus when i do. I am studying the old testament and have started reading "The Articles of Faith" by James Talmage. Haveing a seminary teaching posistion helps me to study because if I don't the teenagers will eat me alive! (not literally of course) I love the Book of mormon and how clearly the doctrine is presented in it.

How often do you read your scriptures? What part of them do you read?

Sometimes I go off on tangents for a few days, but generally each day I take ONE verse from the Book of Mormon and explore all the footnotes and write my feelings on it as well as what I feel from the Lord.

OK next question: help me decide when to set aside some time to read my scriptures. I try to read them every time I take a bath. Lately it seems a spirit of sleepiness overcomes me when I want to read.

You have a whirlpool tub? Lucky! Definitely turn off the whirlpool. That's way too relaxing. You should read your scriptures when you're really alert. Try having a friend scare you at random times during the day to get your adrenaline running, then read your scriptures. You'll be all alert. Also, you could read them while riding your bike if you're not picky about watching where you're going.

Well I also suffer from sleep apnea so I never get enough sleep.

I wear a mask each night. Sucks, but I get better sleep.

Yeah I have a machine and a mask that my Mom gave me but I do not have medical insurance nor enough money to get a sleep study done so I don't know what settings I need for the machine. Self diagnosing doesn't work either.
