I'm trying to finish my taxes - maybe 2 steps left and I can't view the return because I don't have Adobe Reader and every time I try to download it, it freezes up and the tax program closes!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!

I sent my husband away with the kids so I can finish the taxes in peace and now I'm waiting for him to come back so I can try it on his laptop, which most of the time won't get an Internet connection.

Oh, and TurboTax is supposed to explain everything right? I make a small amount on the side and it tells me, "Congratulations! You have a business!" Uh, I don't want a business! Then it starts asking me questions like, "What is your accounting method - cash, accrual, or other?" No explanation for those. Then it asks me, "Did you have material participation in this company?" What the poopysticks is that supposed to mean??? I've talked to quite a few friends, some say yes, some say no. Does it even matter? Will it change how much I pay? I wish these programs would explain this stuff as if I were 2. We don't itemize and it's not worth it to pay someone to do it for us since we need every bit we can get.

I

am

so

annoyed.

Oh please let the laptop work. Once this tax thing is over, I'll start begging some more for someone to help me with this silly computer.

At least I know we're getting some money back. My friend was going to end up owing $7000, but then they had an accountant come over and he figured out how to knock it down to $2500. Still, ouch.

MorningStar, I hope you got through it ok. It is 3:30 a.m. my time:whoa: and I just printed out the last page of my tax returns. Finally. :bouncingclap:

I used to always wait until the last minute, when my forms were simpler. Our large city had a drive-thru set up in the post office parking lot, and it was a party - the mail carriers would take your envelope, ensure it had the right amount of postage and stamp it with the cancellation date of 04-15 right there in front of you.

Then life got more complicated and I nearly always was organized enough to get my taxes done by the end of March at the very latest.

This past year was different. Fraught with challenges from the beginning of 2007, it was difficult to keep up with the basic daily bookkeeping my life demands. I have been working diligently at catching up during this whole first quarter of 2008, and now, I can finally rest easy. . .

maybe. I sure hope all those numbers are right.

God gave us computers for genealogical purposes. Satan uses them for government control and porn.

Well, my husband's laptop worked, thank goodness! When we start itemizing, we'll use a tax preparer, but we need every dollar we can get right now. Wish I could buy a new computer with it! :D

What are you going to use your refund for? We're either going to use it for moving or to pay down our credit card.

Uhh. I answered you in my quote. I already received and spent it. Maybe you're referring to that "rebate"? I'll use it to pay down more debt.

I'd rather not have to pay extra taxes and get a refund/return at the end of the year, but I hate ending up having to pay extra for miscalculating the year before and not have enough deductions so I just have them take out a little extra. It's the lesser of two evils in my particular case.

Oh, sorry, I meant the rebate coming in May or whenever. :)

Return? What's that?

That is the $25.00 that Arizona is paying us after we paid $96.00 to Turbo Tax to figure that all out!

I never got a return of money until the year after I divorced hubby#1. The second year I was divorced I actually got $1,235.00 back! AARP did my taxes that year- I bought a bed, 4 sets of sheets, 2 blankets and 2 quilt toppers! Oh, and new pillows.

This year we are getting about $400 back from the feds. Going to buy a new dishwasher. Ours just died and I am getting pretty fed up with washing by hand! Want a portable one. Want to put the fridge back where it belongs (where the broken d.washer is now), then I will have room for my kitchen table. ^_^
