Mullenite Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 1000 Evidences for the LDS Church!!!1000 Evidences for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1000 EvidencesforTHE CHURCH OFJESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS Parts 1 & 2by Allen H. Richardson,M. Ed. David E. Richardson,Ph. D. Anthony E. Bentley,M. Sc. Foreword Preface IntroductionThis collection of evidences is designed for all readers. For the active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it presents documented evidences to enrich their testimonies. It gives substance to those who have taken for granted that the Church is true. For investigators, it provides resource material that will help lead to a testimony. The array of evidence will stimulate the minds of those who have been indifferent. Skeptics, who are open-minded enough to review the material, will find it difficult if not impossible to explain away the great weight of evidence. And it will answer charges of those who have openly criticized the Church. more from the foreword... The search for truth should be one of active pursuit-not passive inquiry. Too often, when questions arise, Latter-day Saints are heard to say, “just pray about it.” While constant prayer is an essential ingredient in the quest for knowledge and wisdom, it should not be relegated to the status of a convenient cure-all for defending one’s faith. Our Heavenly Father expects us to do more than just to ask each time we lack understanding. Moroni (10:3) reminds us to “ponder” these things in our hearts before asking God for a manifestation. Some have presumed that exercising faith is not an intellectual function. However, the prophet Joseph Smith taught differently: “when a man works by faith, he works by mental exertion…” (See Lectures on Faith, Number 7, Section 3.) more from the preface... There is a God. His existence is evidenced by conclusions based on scientific study, the testimonies of witnesses, and by the fulfillment of prophecies. Since God lives and loves His children, there is a purpose to life. That purpose is to “endure to the end” (Matthew 10:22) while being tried and tested in our obedience to God’s commandments, in order that we might prove ourselves worthy “to be accepted by the Lord at the judgment” (2 Corinthians 5:9-10) and have life everlasting (John 12:50). The means to prove ourselves has been disputed for centuries. Since the consequences are so serious and long lasting, it is vitally important to make the correct decisions.... Quote

Abraham Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Sunday, as YMP our YM group sponsored a speaker/archeologist to speak on Book of Mormon: Lands and Peoples. It was about 2 hours long and FANTASTIC!!!!!! I guess you will have to imagine what he talked about but had pictures that no one had ever taken, for example the 'morning star' Venus - shining through the temple portal at sun-up on April 6th, the only day it lines up there and on and on. About 250 people attended and loved it. I know that evidence like this does not give someone a testimony it is merely evidence but it was so incredible. He is a member of the Church and he and his wife are writing a book, I'll will tell you when it is available. One interesting fact is that Mexicos Minister of the Intierior told hiim that 99% of what is told at most, if not all, Mayan ruins is for the curious tourists and is not true. The blood letting ceremonies and sacrifices is just not true!! the tourist like the blood and gore part. The symbolism was amazing. Did you know Catholic Bishop LaVenda (sp) tortured the Mayan in the most horrendous ways to get them to disclose where their records were stored This guy then took over 100,000, yes over one hundred thousand records and burned them saying they were pure evil and of the devil. (No offense to our Catholic friends but this is a fact of history). My point is that there a lot of evidence out there that buoys our faith. BTW - We are sure that the Hill of Cumorah is NOT IN NEW YORK!!! No BYU BoM scholar bellieves it either. Moroni never said the plates he buried were in the Hill Cumorah, just a hill. the real Hill of Cumorah is a bit south. I love this gospel and its fullnes. Abraham of the Chaldeas Quote

Curious...The hill upon which the plates were taken from Moroni, was just called a hill [no name was given] by Joseph Smith. Other members of the church referred that hill as Cumorah. Ever since, the church academics was/is trying to put out the fire. The original last battle was some place in either South Mexico or Central America, depending on which person to believe. Go to Goggle's Map, zoom in to that area, then use the search field and type in 'CUMORAH'. Quote
Moksha Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 So Joseph Smith did not find the plates in Hill Cumorah NY? I have wondered about a teleportation mechanism linking the two hills. Quote

Hemidakota Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 Are referring to Brigham Young's statement of other plates revealed to Joseph and Oliver when both walk in the cave? Quote
Hemidakota Posted April 24, 2008 Report Posted April 24, 2008 hummm....interesting:hmmm:If you go to the IBM Fellow's website in Japan, they were working on such device. Quote
Abraham Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 No, the Hill's name was chosen later and attributed to the hill where the records had beenn deposited. That hill was not the Hill Cumorah when Joseph frequented it. Abraham. I think 1842 was where the name Cumorah was used in scripture outside of the BoM, (D&C 128). Of course there is a lot more to it than that. Quote

tiancum Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 Some in the church believe in the 2 Cumorah theory. That Moroni took the plates from the first hill Cumorah, somewhere in Mexico (they believe) and put them in New York so Joseph could get 'em. They are also of the belief that the majority of the BOM did not happen in north America. I don't believe in this theory personally. Things Joseph said throughout his life about different placed in the USA and the story that Hemi mentioned about the huge room filled with plates make me believe that it was probably in NY. IN Doctrines of Salvation 3 , there are many prophets and apostles that claim that "THE HILL" Cum. in NY, is the only hill Cumorah, and is named Ramah also. They further claim that the ancient city of Manti was located in Missouri too. I don't care much about locations. All I care about is that it happened. It did. No amount of proof I can purchase with money will help me "enrich my testimony". If i have a choice between what Indiana Jones says:lol: or prophets or Apostles of the Lord, the latter feels better to me. Quote

Moksha Posted April 25, 2008 Report Posted April 25, 2008 I have always liked that song, "How are things on Hill Cumorah". Quote
