What a great way to do missionary work Iggy! You never know what seeds you could be planting in their hearts. Great idea. Anyone who throws out an Ensign magazine when they are done reading it may want to pause and think who might be open enough to at least look at the magazine. There is so much information in a magazine that something might touch their hearts or at least have a better opinion of us.

Catholic's appalled at Anti-Mormon commercial

Has anyone read anything from the Jewish faith? I believe they were for Prop 8 yet I haven't read nor heard anything from them. -
Oligith1, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. It certainly makes us think. There are some people that say they are born that way. I'm not so sure. I'm having a hard time accepting that. It's like saying I was born to be an adulterer or I was born to steal or to physically torture people or animals. It's like blaming God for giving you this temptation. I believe all temptation come from Satan. Personally I cannot answer why certain people have such strong urges. There may be many different reasons why. But I do know in my heart that Heavenly Fathers plan for mortality is perfect. We will not understand everything that happens and why, but it is perfect because our Father in Heaven is perfect. But we will learn the answers from Him when that time is right. Oligith1, thank you for your desires to keep the commandments.

Here's 20 to think about.... (I always get carried away ) 1. The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow. 2. Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail. 3. If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all. 4. Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs. (Reality check!) 5. A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water. 6. How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night? 7. Business conventions are important because they demonstrate how many people a company can operate without. 8. Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks? 9. Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job. 10. No one has more driving ambition than the boy who wants to buy a car. 11. There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity. 12. There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 AM. It could be a right number. (Another reality check!) 13. Think about this ... No one ever says "It's only a game" when his team is winning. 14. I've reached the age where the happy hour is a nap. 15. Be careful reading the fine print. There's no way you're going to like it. 16. The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket. 17. Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of OLD LADIES running around with tattoos? (And RAP music will be the Golden Oldies!) 18. Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a BMW than in a Yugo. 19. After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you're probably dead. 20. Trying is failing with honor.

WOW!!! Read this quote from Joseph Smith

That's a good description of our day. Until the "natural man" changes, I think we'll always have these problems. I like to imagine what our world would be like if just one thing were removed from it - greed. -
You can search for it on YouTube but Elph posted the link. But me, I had it saved as one of my favorites so it was easy to see it again!!!!!! :D:D

And me too. I'd buy it without hesitation.

Like Pam, I've seen this many times before and it's still great to see again. He made a CD and it is available on Amazon and I bought it. It's great to listen to. In fact, here's the link.. Paul Potts CD He has also been on tours around the world. I hope his fame is not short-lived and he makes more performances at concerts. He has far too much talent to be selling phones in England. Thanks Elphaba. It was great to see him perform again.

Here's a 60 Minutes story about a possible cancer cure using a combination of radio waves and nano particles. The technique uses the Kanzius invention and it has no side affects. There is about a 4 year test ahead for the scientists. I know. I know. These stories have been heard before but one of these days one of these stories will come true. Let's hope this one is the story that actually does it. Link to Video

Glad to hear back from you Rebecca. I'm sure the missionaries will get back to you but if not call them again. I hope you can make it to church tomorrow and feel the spirit there and meet those missionaries. I hope you will PM Hemi to help you find out who your LDS Lay leader will be in Afghanistan. My son was in the Navy and it was hard keeping his faith strong. So I hope you will stay in contact with other members over there and that will help. The gospel teachings are wonderful and full of hope and they are true. And there is a great Relief Society program for the sisters in the church that will give your faith strength. And thank you for serving our country. Many times in our temples when we pray in our prayer circles, our military men and women are included in our prayers and we pray for them in our homes. Bless you!

Hi Rebecca, Glad you are investigating the church and that you found us on this forum. It's a good place to learn. And even better place is with the missionaries and you will feel the spirit as you learn from them. I encourage you to find them and go to church. Here is a more direct link to finding a church in your area. Just enter your address and it will find a place near you. Church locator/ You will find good members and missionaries there who would love to help you, answer your questions and be a friend. There are a lot of wonderful teachings to learn about. Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.

Huh? Who said I said they were gay? I was asking the question if they were. Why? Because, as you should know, parents almost always teach their children what they believe is right. If gay parents are angry towards people who want to be straight as this child’s family who was beat up was, “chances are” their children will feel the same way and may even act out their hatred. I’m not saying that is the case here but simply asking the question. The time people stop asking questions and stop asking why we will be intellectually dead. Please, I hope that never happens. Of course I wouldn't? Well, since you are putting words in my mouth let me spit them out. Yes! The same thing could very well happen in heterosexual families as well. The fact is, it has happened. Look at history Elphaba and you will clearly understand that. Where does the term “hiding in the closet” come from? Why are they hiding? In the fifties, sixties, seventies, gays were beat up by straight people. So yes it has happened and could still happen. I’m not condoning any violence our encouraging anyone to be hateful towards people but we should love the person. But we can still disagree with the lifestyle. And I’m sure there would be more than just sexual orientation and religion and philosophy would probably be a good start. Yes. I very well know there are gay Mormons and we love them too even if they choose to live that lifestyle, even if they are not Mormon. They are our brothers and sisters in spirit. But we still do not accept that lifestyle. But I very much love and admire them and the courage and strength they have when they “choose” not to act upon that lifestyle. That takes a lot of strength and sacrifice and I truly believe they will be very much blessed for it! You spun that one around quite well. What I said was, USED TO BE, meaning in the past, history. You are talking about our present condition, AS IT EVER DID. I was referring to history. See my answer above about why homosexuals hid in the closet. Gays (in the past) were for a period of time not tolerated and were even harmed. Now this story is about a group of kids not tolerating a Straight child or his family’s beliefs and beats him up. It is a contrast I am making. You apparently missed it. So your point is that since children are going to know about homosexuality we should teach it in elementary school. Okay. My question is how? Will it be taught as marriage? Will it be taught as acceptable? You see my point? If that’s how it is going to be taught to my grandchildren then I don’t want that because it goes contrary to what they learn in church. So, why not wait until college when they are not so easily influenced? The problem is we aren’t given a choice how they will be taught in school. I don’t want them indoctrinated in school that a homosexual lifestyle is normal, that it is a marriage and it is acceptable. And people are different. Some are loving and some are hateful. Some are good and some are bad. It depends on what extreme we take this. Here is an example. Should we have respect and dignity for what Hitler taught and truly believed in, to wipe out all the Jews? And no, I am not comparing homosexuality to the holocaust. How about another example then? Should we have respect and dignity for the gang of children who beat up another child regardless of their reasons? And was that boy treated the same? In our religion there is a scripture in D&C 1:31 that says: “For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance.” Is that showing respect and dignity for sin or even for the person who committed it? I don’t think it is. But the Lord still loves them as His sons and daughters anyway as we should too. But I do believe in following the Lords example about sin not that I and others are perfect. We sin every day but we can sincerely do our best to change our lives each and every day.

I was curious to know if any children, who participated in the assault, were from homosexual couples but the story doesn’t say. How much of this hatred is being taught by their parents? This is very sad. It used to be that we didn’t have any tolerance of homosexuals and now we don’t seem to have any tolerance of heterosexual beliefs. Now the pendulum swings the other way. I wonder why schools can’t just wait until college to teach homosexuality. Why indoctrinate children at so young an age?

Unfortunately, I don't have the link. It was about 6-12 months ago that I read this and it was a news article not someone's blog. I'm not sure if it was in the LA Times or NY Times. I wished I had kept the link. I can't speak for everyone but I believe most who support Prop 8 want marriage to be defined as only between a man and a woman. If it fails, the consequence is that same-sex marriage will be taught along with hetrosexual marriage as an acceptable lifestyle for school children to consider as they grow up. That's offensive because same-sex marriage is not acceptable in many religions. It is considered a sinful lifestyle and one that children of God who live this lifestyle should repent of. If that's offensive to some, God made up the rules not me. While we tolerate people who wish to choose that life style, it does not mean that we have to sit back and have the state teach it to our children and grand-children. I believe that is what has many parents and grand-parents upset. The separation of church and state sounds like a very strong reason to me. If that is violated, then I believe SCOTUS will have a reason to listen to it. But even if there is a reason, SCOTUS still might not listen to it. Some may argue that same-sex marriage has nothing to do with religion or with God therefore the state can teach this. This may be the very argument that is brought before SCOTUS. Do you give discounts for your web legalize? :)

“Children in public schools will have to be taught that same-sex marriage is just as good as traditional marriage.” Thurston says this is untrue. Frankly, I don’t believe that at all. There are already book publishers who are putting books together to teach children that very thing for Massachusetts and they will use it in California too. One book is titled something like, “My Daddy’s Friend.” Many parents don't want their children taught these things. It is not the definition of marriage that we believe in. If prop 8 fails, it will not be the end. I can easily see that it will eventually end up in the US Supreme court because what is taught in school violates our religious beliefs of what the definition of marriage is. The state is crossing the line of our religious beliefs and I don’t mean just the LDS church. It crosses the line of what many faiths teach. What happened to the separation of church and state? That, I think, may be decided in the US Supreme court.

I am very aware of what scientists do to arrive at a hypotheses. I was saying that some people make a statement and scientists say it is probable and then actually think it is factual when that may not be the case. It may become factually or it may be proven totally false at a later time. Some people just jump the gun and think it is true because they may want it to be true or because since it is probable therefore in time it will be true. We start to fool ourselves and others. Let's not be so open minded and let that happen. When discussing an issue it's best to discuss the facts behind it. It may be fun to discuss what probably is or isn't about something but it simply doesn't prove anything. What is probable about something really is an unknown at this point in time. Not factual but unknown. I have seen some posts where someone may say that scientist say it is probable that... or the evidence shows that it is probable that... It just doesn't make it true. It could be entirely false. Sometimes people lose their testimonies over something that just isn't proven and they lose their own salvation.

Some people state that genetics is the reason why some (or perhaps all) become homosexual. I have also read from scientists that there is no evidence to that statement. Some say it is probable but that does not make it true any more than when scientists once said it was probable that the earth is the center of the universe. Well we certainly got that one wrong. We weren't even close to the right answer. What may look right, what may feel right, may not be right at all. Which is one very good reason why we should not trust in the hand of flesh but in the hand of the Lord.

Here is a video of one families experience that should make you think seriously about this proposition. LINK TO VIDEO We really need to get this proposition past in California, Arizona, and Florida. Please share this with others. Thanks

Love that quote too. That's a great example. Of all his movies, I think the one I liked the most was Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. But he does have quite a few great ones.

Congratulations Nick. You, me and millions were converted by the Book of Mormon, the stick of Joseph as they called it in Ezekiel 37. A powerful witness of Jesus Christ and a fruit of the prophet Joseph Smith. You will learn so much and the more you learn the more the gospel all fits together. Welcome.
