  1. My H, who is a painter, says it is a painting. He can tell since that is what he does all day. I have to agree with misshalfway. When I talked to my bro about it he asked me, "What difference does it make?" I told him it didnt make a difference to me WHAT he looked like, even though I always pictured him as handsome, but when you see a picture of a man not a painting it makes him that much more real. You are looking at him as close the flesh as you can get and he become even more real than before. I would think it would help stregnthen testimonies even more. At least for me anyway.
  2. Ok....1st of all being someone who has come from a family that was active one year then inactive the next then active again back and forth back and forth. Never once being forced by anyone from the church to think a certain way or to ignore the past mistakes of the church. I just have to say, I have no idea where you are coming from. 2nd I think your comparison to the Lord's Church and the Nazi's is......well I'm not even sure what word to use here. Again, being a member, but not always an active one, I have NEVER been forced to believe. As you say the Church does. It is opinions such as yours that makes people think we are a cult. 3rd I have a very simple question for you......Do you believe this is the LORD's church. Not Joseph's, but the LORD's?
  3. I think it really helps to know Brigham Young as well. And I agree with most everyone. I have looked at Blacklds.org and I think it is an awesome site. Go to it. It will really help to hear it straight from them.
  4. I always thought the first one was a painting not a photo. The face looks animated to me. The second one I always felt looked to young for the time it was supposedly taken. I actually came a cross a photo on youtube that I thought looked more like he should look. (How he should look in my mind anyway. It was a rather handsome man.) I'll have to find it and post it when I get a chance.
  5. I dont know how many of you have seen the show My Super Sweet 16. It makes me sick. These bratty teens expect $50,000+ cars and parties in the $100,000's. My H and I have decided that even if we become billionares, we will NEVER do that. Its not doing them any favors in life. If anything it limits them.
  6. Wow, I was raised in the city and dont know how to do a darn thing. It sure would be helpful right now though. We were definatley on the poor side. I remember going to school in baggy clothes. I know my gma was extra careful with plastic wrap and foil so she could reuse it. She kept every container because she hated throwing anything away.
  7. I looked into Fawn Brodie's book. I even read reviews on her other books as well and I personally dont find her as a credible source based off the reviews of her other books. Its been awhile since I looked at them so I cant remember exactly what was said or what book it was.
  8. Could you tell me where your knowledge of these events came from? My husband and I have resently become very interested in church history. We have resently become aware of somethings that happened with JS that we were unaware of (when he became ill and nearly died) and it has really peaked our interest. We're looking for good books that will help us. I know about Rough Stone Rolling and really want it, but did your knowlege come from any other books? Thanks!
  9. lol....I can picture a little Pale on each shoulder. One with horns and the other with a little halo.
  10. If you build it.....they will come.... Sorry, couldnt help it. For some reason reading Pale's post made me think of that.
  11. Ok, to answer your 1st question: No absolutely not. I don't think that is why men have the priesthood and women don't. To be honest with you I dont know why men have it and women dont. Never thought about it. Its not something that important to me. What is important to me is having the priesthood in my home. Whether it comes from me or my husband doesnt matter. Just so long as its there. I have my roles, he has his. (By the way, I go to work and he stays home with the kids.) Im not defensive. I dont really have a side in this discussion. I was however offended at your crass example of Christ being unworthy. I get your point but I saw it as disrespectful.
  12. We had an Elder Berry in our ward. I always told him his father was a hamster and his mother smelled of elderberries. Line from Holy Grail.
  13. I dont think any one is saying ALL men are this way or ALL women are that way. Especially Christ. We need to remember who Christ is and leave him out of this discussion if its not going in a very Christ like direction. Lets be civilized here. Christ is perfect. We all agree with that.
  14. I did a google search. I dont know if there is a statistic for SIN but there are statistics on crime. National Statistics Online I dont know what the deal is with this link. I hope it works.
  15. I love the Jeff Foxworthy routine where he talks about being the designated driver, and he stops at every gas station on the way home to pretend to fill up so he can get about $100 out of his friends. Is it really dishonest to take advantage of your friends when they're wasted?
  16. First of all, I think it depends on our personality. We were created differently and I think our FH likes to see all our little quirks. My PB said that I would have an exciting life. At the time I took it to mean humorously exciting. Not exactly sure why but that was the impression I got. Yes, I have had MANY crazy things happen to me. My car caught on fire while I was driving and those kind of things happen so often that my family didnt even ask if I was ok. They knew I would be. It was the norm for me. My little brother was walking home from school and as he turned onto our street he saw my car burnt to a crisp and it didnt even phase him. I remember being on the phone with 911 and I just started laughing. I was laughing so hard I couldnt breath. The operator kept asking if I needed an ambulence too. I told her no Im fine. I just cant stop laughing. Then the laughter turned to tears. Anyway that is just one out of the many examples. The point is He definately has a sense of humor and I think its ok for us to have one too. On the other hand we do have to remember to show Him the respect He deserves, but an apropriate joke does not go agains that, IMHO. He's our Father and He wants to hear from us daily and if you have a particularly humorous day tell Him about it. I dont see the harm.
  17. That was a really great video. Thanks a lot. I probably shouldnt have watched it while working though. It made me cry. I think its funny when people say Joseph was a con-man. I cant imagine a man being tar and feathered so many times and still sticking with his con.
  18. I dont like it when the lesson they give is, "Ok, sit here and listen to me talk and teach you." I much prefer them to make it a conversation about the lesson or message they have. I really think its more about the comeradery between the ward family.
  19.:eek::eek:My beloved grandfather would be rolling in his very republican grave!! As for the environmentalists, this earth was a gift to us and we were commanded to take care of it as well as the animals put here with us. It's when you have these people using it for public or political gain. Especially when they contradict themselves. One of my favorite examples was a few years back when Al Gore threw a big outside concert. The electricity used was a phenominal amount, not to mention the big litter mess, and the thousands of cars that drove thousands of miles to be there. (I got this info from Glenn Beck. Incase anyone was wondering.) Thats what bugs me.
  20. Did he get made fun of? This kid had a really good sense of humor. He said he was called Dick even though he went by Richard. He said people would yell, "hey Dick (insert last name here)" and he'd just wave back and say Hi.
  21. My hubby and I both work from home and are about 15 min from the nearest store so we dont drive much. Man isnt it sad that we all get excited about $3.50 for gas?
  22. I have to say I'm not a believer, but I will never watch Signs or Fire in the Sky again!! I have to say Fire in the Sky was one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I was looking up for signs of an alien invasion for months after that. As for Contact, I dont remember an LDS reference, so it must have been taken out for some reason. I do, however believe in the Loch Ness Monster. No joke, I really believe she's there.
  23. I will be 26 in September. I have never been into the pop music scene because of the dirty.....no vulgar is a better word.......lyrics. Its not that your old. I'm still what the world considers "clubing" age and I can't stand that crap! Kids don't listen to the words so I think you just need to let them know what they really are. That kind of dancing is definately not appropriate especially in the chapel. It may just be their ignorance though.
  24. I used to work at the parking services at Salt Lake Community College. I saw a lot of funny things but learned to keep myself under control. People tripping up stairs, running into the glass doors, all sorts of things. Anyway, one day I had a kid hand me his paper work to purchase his parking permit. As I looked down at the paper it read Last Name: Head First Name: Richard I tried my hardest, but couldnt hold it in. My face was turning red. He noticed I was struggling and said as calm and understanding as could be, "Its my name isnt it?" I appologized and he said, "Its ok. It happens all the time. My parents are from England and they dont use that term over there." I worked at the college for 6 years and came across a lot of crazy names. Most of them were foriegn so it wasnt that shocking, but when I saw this clean cut post-missionary boy standing in front of me named Richard Head I could control myself.
  25. Im going to agree with utcowboy here. Just remember how young this missionary is. Kids say the darndest things.
