  1. Americans are the most charitable people on earth and we give more than any other people to charity....especially Republicans/Conservatives. Liberals give the very least. That is a fact. The rain falls on the just and unjust alike. I wonder how many people that don't have medical insurance have cable tv, or cell phones or smoke ciggarettes or ......? The solution is not for the Government......tax payers to provide medical insurance. More affordable health insurance....sure. A safety net.....oh wait a minute, that's called Medicaid. Anyone born in America hit the lottery of life. People risk life and limb to come to America. Those who work and take advantage of the opportunities provided by this great land....do well. Get rich? Maybe...maybe not. Struggle to earn a living...sometimes. Poverty is an abused term in this great land of plenty...... Not true. County hospital have to take patients in the ER regardless of ability to pay. Bleeding heart rhetoric. Where?? Schools provide text books.....other countries perhaps, but not here. Agreed. Alcoholism and drug use claim the lives of many living on the "streets". Bad choices often lead to bad consequences. Agreed........I believe in helping those who would help themselves if they could..but can't. I am not for helping those that can help themselves but won't. People living on the dole is suffocating this country. People need to grow a backbone and get of there lazy rears and quit feeling entitled.....time to earn.
  2. Ok .......FunkyMonkey......your avatar is killing me....so funny.
  3. The problem with government run, tax payer funded, social programs is that they rarely ever accomplish the desired result. The solution to a failed social program.....expansion and more money. It's just like education.....the problem is always....not enough money or we need government funded pre-k. Government cannot solve social ills. The breakdown of the family has more to do with poverty and lack of education than anything else. Our culture.....the secular world is so permissive and promotes moral relativism and offers endless excuses for human failings. Maybe, it's time to hold people accountable for their own actions and stop rewarding bad behavior.
  4. First of all....Welcome!! As a Latter Day Saint I love the Bible...especially the Gospels. I treasure all of the scriptures because they hold the keys to eternal life and are from God. The Book of Mormon is of special significance because it was preserved for our day and time and was brought forth to open the last and final dispensation of the fullness of times. It is our Fathers mission to "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" and the Book of Mormon explains, clarifies and reinforces the message of salvation contained in the Bible and most importantly it is an additional witness of our Savior. It does not diminish the light provided by the Bible....it enhances it. Yes. Everyone who has ever lived or will ever live must come to salvation in exactly the same way.....including baptism. Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the Father and we are all literally the pffspring of Heavenly Father. Jesus Christ.......Jehova in the pre-existence....was indeed the greatest of all.....like unto God. The President of our Church is Thomas S. Monson and we believe him to be a Prophet. The Holy Spirit is a member of the Godhead and is a personage of Spirit. How or when...I dunno....for us He is God Almighty and the only God we are concerned with.S Not at all...hope this helped.
  5. In a perfect world....no doubt. But in this fallen sphere......afraid not. Would military intervention in 1939 in Germany saved countless millions...yep. Negotiating with madmen in control of powerful militaries rarely works. As for abortion......If my wife were the victim of rape, I would want and she would want as well an abortion. I believe that the Spirit of the unborn child continues to live and will either be reborn or will achieve celestial glory.
  6. I believe in God and worship him because of the witness of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit teaches me that there is a God and he is my Father and it helps me remember beyond the veil. Without that....I would not believe.
  7. I think there are some huge differences here. To kill in defense of freedom.....certainly distasteful and far better if war didn't exist....is often necessary to stop evil or protect from those who would subjugate and occupy and force dominion. Abortion.....is rarely necessary and is the willful act of diminishing the value of human life. Both are abhorrent....but one can be used to bring about a righteous cause....the other cannot. " What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world."- Robert E. Lee
  8. I have a very large German shepherd dog. He is an all European working line dog.....very strong drives. Absolutely wonderful with kids and other animals....but trained to protect. I would never allow anyone in to my back yard without me or allow him to be in the front yard without a lead. Lots of people have dogs that they should never own. Especially big dogs. Many breeds are over bred....like the German Shepherd dog, and have temperament problems. I would never own an American blood line shepherd....the German breeders do not allow health and temperament problems. Anytime a dog attacks someone, it is because of fear, dominance and just a bad temperament. Your neighbors are irresponsible dog owners and shouldn't have these dogs. Even if the dogs were properly trained...they should never be allowed to run free.....and I would have remedied the neighborhood problem personally if it had been one of my kids.
  9. But....if their is competing theology, then the news of the restoration would have to be taught....right? It is interesting that in this dispensation you must accept that JS was a prophet and the BOM and the restoration and Priesthood authority.......that is a very tall order for some....for most. If one has onlyto accept that Jesus is the Christ, repentance and baptism in the Spirit prison.....that is much more a akin to the teachings of orthodox Chritianity. Seems to me that they will have to believe all of that and that it must be done by proper authority and then that leads back to competing theology.
  10. Since we will not be assigned to a kingdom of glory until the end of the millenium, she would have the opportunity to marry. The Lord is perfect and perfect in his love for us and would definitely know why we were unable to marry. Obviously, there will be many that have yet to marry in the millenium........
  11. The real cause of Global Warming...........
  12. Those who are kept in spirit prison are the unrighteous or all that have not received the gospel? Also, what do those in spirit prison have to accept in order to go to Paradise? Do they have to accept the restoration, JS and the Book of Mormon....as we do here on earth, will it be important there? Or only that Jesus Christ is the savior and repentance and baptism and Temple covenants? Will their be competing theology, making it necessary to explain the apostacy and the First Vision and the restoration of the Priesthood and associated blessings?

  14. Fried cornbread.....mmmm!! Yep, fried okra, fried tomatos, fried pickles.......even fried macoroni and cheese.
  15. Mr. Nirom, The Lord gives to each of us line upon line and precept upon precept......individually....as we are prepared to receive it and act upon it.
  16. We do trunk or treat the week before........
  17. Like hail the size of cars......
  18. Righteous members and non-mambers who do not marry in this life will have the opportunity in the millenium.
  19. My first name initial is J. My wife's is M. My two sons begin with J and M.
  20. 17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; He probably should have phrased it.....pay for their own sins, rather than atone. The scripture makes clear that now is the time to repent.....that Christ's atonement paid the price for all who come unto him with a broken heart and contrite spirit. If not we will have to suffer as Christ suffered for our own sins
  21. I love people that make no sense...I mean liberals...they provide such good comic relief. Just kidding...relax! I never discuss politics in church....I don't have a clue who is left...right...Dem or Rep......Green or Libertarian in my ward. You would be welcomed either way.....that's not what church is about anyway.
  22. :roflmbo:....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
  23. I live in Florida and it is very cold....unseasonably cold.......record lows. Maybe it's the beginning of that new ice age scientists were predicting when I was a kid.....maybe
  24. Hi Maureen, Doctrine and Covenants Section 19, verses 15-18. I posted them earlier.....
  25. When they refer to LDS and works they are implying that we believe that we have to do good works in order to gain salvation. Rather, they believe that their is nothing that man can do to earn salvation. True, accepting Christ is a work , as is repentance...IMO. Southern Baptists, which are the second largest US denomination, believe that once your saved...your always saved.....that salvation can't be lost through disobedience and trangression. Their beef with us is that they see us as never having our salvation secured...never knowing we are forgiven....or that we can lose our salvation.
