Iguy? I am not sure to whom your last post is referring, but, many of us are converts from other Christian faiths. Anatess was a Catholic and I grew up attending an Assemblies of God church and then later a Baptist church.

In the event that you become a member, you will discover the truths that we declare the same way each of have, line upon line, here a little, there a little, as you are ready to receive it. Trying to figure out who is wrong and who is right is EXACTLY what led Joseph Smith to his knees in a grove of trees. The things of God can only be understood by the power of the Holy Spirit and nothing else.

As the late Elder McConkie said, "God either stands revealed or remains forever unknown...."

    Bytor,
I like the idea of boot camp where they are unable  to continue criminal behaviors.  That is what we are trying to prevent and the root of my interest.  PC gave a link with other attempts.  It list boot camps where they "viewed  no effects" but it was with multi-crime offenders.  I'm still interested to find out what it was where it didn't work.

Adult Boot Camps Crime & Delinquency - Multiple crime/offense types Correctional boot camps (also called shock or intensive incarceration programs) are short-term residential programs that resemble military basic training and target convicted adult offenders.
I DO LOVE "the intact family (loving father and mother), education, structure, and accountability."  Wow, this is an interesting issue and I have a whole lot to learn about it.

This might sound crazy but what if we go the opposite way and let all prisons out and back onto the street well not all of them  but the ones with the lowest risk to society.  What if we only imprisoned murderers and other heinous criminals.  Then society protects themselves, kind of like marshal law sort of but the police would assist with their special weapons and tactics to make sure things are protected.  They are there and we help regulate them as citizens.  Maybe that is ridiculous but I'm wondering really.  In the olden days in the wild west it was like that with a sherif and a jail.  Hanging by judge orders.  hmmm....

Very true Dr. T. The real answer is obviously children being born into intact loving families that includes a loving mother and father, structure and accountability at a young age and education.

Prison should leave inmates with tired backs, aching muscles, little sleep and a profound desire to never return if released.

Addressing the penalties associated with non-violent drug crimes would be a good place to start. I am all for "hard labor" as a form of rehabilitation. Grow your own food, chain gangs etc for the violent offenders. I know prison is not a nice place currently, but, a boot camp type model with no opportunity to continue criminal activities would be optimal.

The issue in reality is that the government has gotten in to the business of mandating that a private entity must provide health care to its employees. This whole notion is an absolutely ridiculous bundle of nonsense, irrationality, and madness.
Businesses use to offer health care because it attracted the best and the brightest. Now the American psyche has been diluted so that we believe an individual MUST provide healthcare to another individual.
Private business is but an extension of the individual. The goal of this current Administration is to bring all entities under government control and rule. The philosophy is one of where the government provides the answers to ALL of the ills of mankind. Government must be large and have its tentacles in every aspect of people’s lives, at all levels. Only those who are in government are exempted from their own rules. This is done supposedly, for the "good" of the people.
We have a largely ignorant population who worry about the Kardashians and know the lyrics to the latest rap and pop-songs but don't know what it means to be a Republic. They don't know what it means to be The People. There is a large portion of the country that depends on the government coffers for their livelihood. There is a certain segment of society (irrespective of race) that purposefully and quite consciously remains under the poverty level so that they can receive free food, free housing, free phones, free healthcare, etc. The Liberal Left depend on this segment. They depend on the secularization of the country because it provides the rationality that government, not God, is the answer to life's difficulties. They depend on the ignorant remaining ignorant. They depend on outright lies and the principles of sophistry to win the day.
The reason why the Hobby Lobby win is a limited win and barely a win to liberty and for the Republic is because the law which is the catalyst for this legal decision is still alive. The ACA is a travesty and it is criminal. It is the fruit of liars, robbers, thieves, and murderers. What worries me is that it seems only a relatively few in the country recognize what is happening and that a large majority of the People haven't yet awoken to a sense of their awful situation:

"Some members assume that one can be in full harmony with the spirit of the gospel, enjoy full fellowship in the Church, and at the same time be out of harmony with the leaders of the Church and the counsel and direction they give. Such a position is wholly inconsistent, because the guidance of this Church comes not alone from the written word but also from continuous revelation, and the Lord gives that revelation to the Church through his chosen prophet. It follows, therefore, that those who profess to accept the gospel and who at the same time criticize and refuse to follow the counsel of the prophet are assuming an indefensible position. Such a spirit leads to apostasy. It is not new. It was prevalent in the days of Jesus and in the days of the Prophet Joseph Smith."

To supplement TFP's excellent answer: the doctrine of Christ is eternal and unchanging. It is God's specific instructions for application of that doctrine, that are wont to change according to circumstances. Were it not so, there would have been no need for any prophets after Adam--or, at most, the role of "prophet" would be limited to restoring carbon copies of the revelations originally given to Adam. Were Abraham and Joseph Smith wrong to live polygamy; or were Jacob, Paul, and Wilford Woodruff right to discourage it? Was Moses wrong for not leading ancient Israel to Utah; or was Brigham Young wrong for not leading modern Israel to the Holy Land? Was Nephi's killing of Laban justified in light of Moses' proscription on murder?
Anti-Mormons (and a certain stripe of Mormon, actually) are fond of the "Mormon teaching/practice must never, ever change, and if it does than it's obviously a hoax" canard; but that idea--sincerely and universally applied--would inexorably lead one away from any religion that purports to be based in the canon of scripture now available to us.

This is still out of harmony. The church's position is:

"It is not known precisely why, how or when this restriction began in the Church, but it has ended."

"The origins of priesthood availability are not entirely clear."

Claiming that the priesthood ban was put in place due to the will of man is not in harmony with the church's straightforward "we don't know" position.

In light of the "welcome to America" attitude on the southern border, it is particularly disgusting. I have respect for law enforcement and know many good police officers, but it seems like the various agencies are becoming more and more para military and less than concerned about the citizens they serve. Local law enforcement included...sadly.

I See pride as the biggest stumbling block for the intellectual. President Benson hit the nail on the head.  The Book of Mormon clearly point out what pride does to us...  My experience with the intellectual, they set themselves above us "little people" as if they and only they are able to see the truth.  That leaves me with the feeling that I can't survive without them.  They are the ones that created the Rameumpton tower in Alma.  The "little people" built it but they couldn't use it.
