  1. Hemi, you're a great man, truly.
  2. You know, ElderBigDawg, that is an interesting point, but I wonder if it doesn't refer to the attitude in general, just confessing you have sinned by the way you live your life. Isn't abstaining from the sacrament if you are unfit to take it a way of confession? Also, maybe it refers to someone who takes rebukes submissively, as we all should strive to. :)
  3. Yes, it was an excellent talk.
  4. Excellent posts, everyone. Your insights are wonderful and have deepened my sense of repentance. I look forward to praying and pondering on this more. Thank you all!
  5. So, I'm trying to work through some tough times in my life, at the moment, and this question came to mind. What is a truly repentant attitude? I figured if anyone could help me, aside from Father Above, my brothers and sisters here could! Any thoughts are welcome!
  6. First of all, I'm so glad you found our faith, dear brother! I'm so sorry to hear of your mistreatment. Your thoughts and intents are in the right place, and I second what tubaloth said. Sharing the truth and coupling your efforts with others who seek truth is most excellent. Just follow the Spirit and keep going onward. ^__^ My admiration, thoughts and prayers are with you.
  7. It may be that some believe this, but, I think it is best not to dwell on it. While the sentiment is sad, I feel more grief for any children of Heavenly Father that take it upon themselves to condemn anyone. Just my two cents. lol
  8. Angela, I truly feel for you and suddenly wonder if there are women in my stake in this same or similar situation. I'm sitting here wracking my brain trying to think of something to help but all I can really offer is my heartfelt admiration and my prayers. I'm not sure exactly when Joseph in Egypt came to realize that the Lord blessed him in the things which befell him, but I know He is there, and in like manner, you are either being blessed or being prepared for a blessing. My heart goes out to you for striving to be a stalwart sister in Zion, and may you soon find the blessings of the 4th watch when the Savior shall say, "Peace, be still."
  9. This seems odd to me, as I have a severe disability myself and was baptized just 3 years ago. All involved were very accommodating. There again, I can't say what the reasoning is for your situation because I'm without the information needed to do so. I sincerely hope you are able to be baptized soon, even though it will be the Lord's time. :)
  10. I realize this, as I was once Protestant. :) I view grace as something God gives freely, because without it no amount of works would or could suffice. However, to me, works are the choice to fall under His grace, as it were. There again, the Atonement and the grace wrought therein can be categorized into its unconditional and conditional attributes, according to my beliefs.
  11. Our works are the mite, and His Grace the King's ransom. That comparison sums it up for me.
  12. *grins* I need to beat my record anyhow. My first year as a member I read it 6 times, and this being my third year... wow I need to get back in the rhythm. lol Count me in, too.
  13. Hemi, thank goodness that you rock so much. lol I second tomk's query, dost thou tarry longer, yea, even in thy tabernacle of clay?
  14. Welcome, and may you find what you seek. :)
  15. Thank you so much for posting, Maid! Arigatou, as our fine brothers and sisters in Japan would say, to all of you!
  16. Wonderful posts, it is great see so much positivity! StrawberryFields, thank you! I enjoy your list and the closeness it conveys. (I'm even more excited for marriage now.)
  17. Ghostrider, What an excellent post! The qualities you've listed are so uplifting, and I can't help but smile. Thank you, my friend! OES
  18. Very much so! I'm excited to see how it grows.
  19. These are all great responses! Dr. T, you make me laugh. tomk, excellent post, as usual!
  20. Recently, I have found a certain topic to be on my heart. That is, the enmity which is sometimes allowed to grow between the sexes. This is true of both male and female. So, without magnifying that part overmuch, I'll make my point of posting. Last night, while thus pondering, I decided to start a post focused on what those of the opposite gender have done for us that is positive. Explaining certain traits that you believe ennoble a man or woman is perfectly acceptable, but let's try to stay away from generalizing. Anyhow, please post away! ----- My post: The woman who has made the greatest impact in my life is my Grandmother, and thanks to her I have a good respect for women. She is honest, faithful and fiercely loyal.
  21. "The Holy Ghost is yet a spiritual body and is waiting to take to himself a body, as the Savior did."[Joseph Smith, Encyclopedia of Joseph Smith's Teachings, edited by Larry E. Dahl and Donald Q. Cannon (Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1997)]
  22. No, in our faith it is not acceptable to hate anyone, no matter the reason. I say this unequivocally because my parents were abusive to me, even to the point of my life being in danger, and I cannot bring myself to hating them. Is it a high standard? Yes, but it is the Savior's standard. Sure, anger and anguish visit me from time to time, but I know I would be denying the very atonement of Christ if I didn't forgive all people. I cannot do that. If I did I would cease to be healed by that selfsame power of His blood.
  23. I'd define man/woman bashing as any words or actions that demean or degrade the divine role or potential of the said man or woman. These are sacred things and shouldn't be treated lightly.
  24. IT will keep a missionary off a mission, so that seems like definite grounds for confession... Also, President Kimball is pretty express about confessing that in the MoF.
  25. If you broke the law of chastity, in any way, it should be repented of fully, confession, to your Bishop and any other effected parties, included. Trust me, you'll feel better. Do you feel worthy enough to enter the temple? If you truly are, telling the appropriate people will not change the fact. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. EDIT: I realized I'm coming on a little too strong here and honestly I don't want to seem like I'm judging you. I'm sorry if I've offended you, it wasn't my intent. I truly do know the depths of hurt even "minor" breaking of a covenant can bring and don't want others to suffer undue harm from it. That's my intent, but ill-executed.
