  1. These quotes are from Elder McConkie's talk. I feel they speak to your question. :)
  2. On a serious note: Sometimes its easier to say I'm a Mormon, because rattling off our Church's name can ruin the conversation with someone who is unfamiliar. (Wow, he must be a religious nutcase...)
  3. Which is like saying, "Ooh, I'm an Isaiah-an!"
  4. Yes, as I've been led to understand permission is required from the party or parties who have custody.
  5. If evil stems from breaking the law... then the law existed first. According to that logic, good has existed longer than evil.
  6. There again... when I was in a YSA ward a sister said she wanted a "hunky, captain Moroni type with a great body." Still amused by that, especially because she was serious.
  7. Question... does God allow all evil to take place? I'm not sure how to word that better. It seems that if there is some evil He doesn't allow to happen there must be criteria for it.
  8. I'd very much like to read this book. =)
  9. Its on my facebook, too!
  10. I agree, hordak. Encouraging others to follow standards shouldn't mean forcing them on others. By encourage I mean living the covenants we made, not telling them what to do. We shouldn't alienate people or look down on them for their beliefs. No need to hash out beliefs at every corner. Exactly what I'm intending to say.
  11. Very true, john doe. Thank you for the excellent advice. =)
  12. Haha, thanks Dravin. I'm really looking to it. (I'm sure I'll be nervous, too.)
  13. I was lucky. I got introduced to a love of reading early on, so I appreciated good, thought-provoking, horizon expanding books as a teen and still do. I've read "fluff" too, yet if all my reading had been limited to that I'd feel a great lack. I have abstained from reading Twilight because so many people talk about it and the craze surrounding it turned me off. I just think I would rather spend my time reading something more enriching.
  14. ^^ Thank you, Pam.
  15. Its not so much a matter of "who are we to judge" as it is that we need to set the example as Church members. We should encourage people to live by Church standards by living them ourselves. However, I don't mean that we should forcibly do so. Often, if we compromise our standards to please others once we will be expected to again.
  16. It does, Hemi. Welcome to the board and the Church. The Atonement is beyond description in its depth and it is an integral part of eternity.
  17. Remember, my friend, that dating (and marriage to a greater extent) is about learning to put your partner's needs and wants before your own. She needs to cope with this so she isn't burdened down with it forever. Honestly, although you want to be with her, do you truly feel this is what she currently needs? Evaluating yourself candidly seems to be in order. You could take emotional inventory with questions like: How well do you know her? (Sounds like she doesn't completely know herself.) Are your expectations higher than they should be? (As in, are you thinking too far ahead when your foundation isn't firmly built.) Are your actions drawing her nearer to the Savior? Would He approve of your courtship practices? (I'm not intending to judge you, in fact, I relate. I've made relationship blunders, too.)
  18. Exactly. =) He makes it possible.
  19. Good to have you, brother! Welcome!

  24. Are you asking if we place the value on the work or the worship? I see worship as a certain type of work, that is, our heart is focused on loving God through our actions, thoughts, and words when we worship. Saying a prayer that isn't prayerful is work. However, I wouldn't consider it worship. Thus, a sincere prayer would embody both. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matt. 6:21)
