  1. A few weeks ago Ceebo asked all the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints why they were on this forum. I think the real question is, If you ARE NOT a member of the church, Why are you on this forum:popcorn:
  2. I like to listen to Christian music also. After all, I 'm a Christian! When I'm listening, it sounds strange, disrespectful when they don't say Thou when speaking directly to HEavenly Father and Jesus. Some of the songs do sing about false doctrine, but for the most part, they speak of truth. Some of the newer music performed by younger musicians is a little hard for me, and I don't see how it could invite the Spirit, but, I just turn it when that happens. I know those who's testimony is young shouldn't listen to lessons or doctrine of "born again" preachers as it can lead them down the wrong path. And of course I do believe that I am (have been) born again as the scriptures describe it because we as members of the church are born again into a new person. WE just use a different vocabulary , we are converted.
  3. Hey N260D, if you lived in Newport News & HAmpton, YOU WERE in my Stake, probably my ward! When I first joined, VA Beach was the Stake Center. Lived in Hampton, was in Newport News Ward, then TOdds Lane after it changed names. Small World Huh? NoW I have to watch my language! Seems welcome is due both of you! You better watch your language, cause an old bittie is keeping her eye on you!
  4. HEY YENNI ! too close! I bet we're in the same STAKE !!! WHOA!
  5. hey dude, I'm a fellow Virginian! Been to Charlottesville many times. Beautiful part of the country. Welcome to the site. hope to see a lot of chatter. :>
  6. are you close to Palermo? Could I talk you in to a little genealogy research????
  7. I think lindseynewman is asking if the green tea is against the word of wisdom as we know today it means tea and coffee. It isn't necessarily the caffeine. I do know that green tea DOES fall in the same category as regular tea because of how it is made and also the tea leaves that it is made from. I thought it as like herbal tea and was drinking it when my son saw it and told me NO. THen I asked around and was told the same by others.
  8. Mormon Doctrine list each prophecy that has been given about the second coming.
  9. As far as the green tea in it, I don't know. I asked about drinking it from the missionaries and they told me it was not like herbal tea and we weren't supposed to drink it. AS far as taking it in a supplement, I would like this answered also!

    Yay-

so sorry this has happened. I'm sure this really hurts BAD! This is the time you need to really stand up for who you are! If you have a testimony you need to show it to him and to Heavenly Father. He may not marry you, but he WILL respect you in the long run and most important you will respect yourself. IF things don't work out with him, be calm, be peaceful, be confident, because Heavenly Father will bless you for standing up to His gospel. This may be happening because He has someone else you will love more, will love you more and already has a strong testimony. ANy man who does have a strong testimony will admire you for not giving in.
  11. Although Mormon Doctrine is a useful book, you are right that it is not included in the standard works. And there is reason in that, it is because each and very word is not gospel. Bruce R. McConkie wasn't perfect either. As the winding up scenes roll along, we will be given more and more truths from HEavenly Father through His servants the prophets. And you know what? Who cares how God made Eve? That fact that He made her is all I need. Picking apart each word to find hidden meaning can be enlightening, but in the end it is not what will bring us salvation. The plain and simple truths are what we have been counseled to ponder and rely on. Everything else is a waste of time.
  12. Chastity is a hard issue, even with adults. I'm sure your parents aren't perfect. If they think less of you for giving in then repenting they have big problems! They should be very proud of you! but........ you don't have to tell them anything you don't want to. Repentance is a wonderful thing! When we truly repent, the transgression is wiped out of the heavenly record and Heavenly Father remembers it no more! Then each Sunday you partake of the sacrament, you renew your baptismal vows and are MADE CLEAN just like you were just baptized! Pretty great huh? Everybody, EVERYBODY, including your parents need to repent. You weren't around when you r parents were your age! And they didn't live in this time of evil everywhere! Talk to your Bishop, get it over, then FEEL GREAT It's done & you are clean again!
  13. I had a hard time understanding this but I do now. Satan is the one who causes war and hate, which causes all of the other issues you question. God loves us and therefore does not interfere with mans free agency. Man can chose to be kind and unselfish or greedy and power hungry which cause war. All of the bad stuff here on earth had it's beginning in man's bad, selfish decisions. More men, more complicated. On the other hand, this allows those who do want to be Godly, to be compassionate, loving, giving, which causes them to grow in strength, wisdom, character. Trials and adversity make us stronger. God wants everyone to be good and kind, but he will not make us. Forcing someone to do anything, even good is WRONG>. This is the whole purpose of our earthly life. TO CHOOSE GOOD OR EVIL. In the end, this is what we will have to give an accountability for. Those who choose to do evil will have their just reward from a God who knows ALL, HE who knows not only our every action but our thoughts as well. And he doesn't look to kindly on those who neglect and hurt children! I don't want to, will not get in a battle or debate over these things I know are true. It creates hostile feelings, and I choose NOT to have that influence in my life. As for you or anyone else who questions or doesn't understand how anyone could believe these things has to understand it is a heart thing. You have to open your heart to receive feelings and answers to your questions. God will not force anyone to believe in Him! If you want to know if there is a God, you have to ask him if He is there, then open up to receive the answers that only He knows will have meaning for you.
  14. the most important thing now is to figure out who wrote the book. Where did you get it? There are so many lies about Joseph Smith and his family you could probably fill a library. In the end, the only words you can totally depend on are the scriptures and the modern talks of our prophets.
  15. the message emailed around was awesome ! But, like referenced before, anyone could ad or take away things that were really said. so in the end, the only ones who know what he said are the ones in the room.

    Yay-

SAKURAGIRL, since you are only having about 20 people, I would definitely NOT have it at the church. I am a professional photographer and have shot a hundred weddings. The location is key to the ambiance of the wedding. Yeah, the church is free, tables, chairs, so forth, but you don't need that with only 20 people. Make it an intimate affair where you and your guest feel comfort and an enclosed security feeling. The cultural hall is open, has basketball hoops, and it definitely isn't cozy. If you know someone that has a nice home, ask them. Do you have an inn in you area or other type of small but nice place? You may have to pay a little, but if it is reasonable it's worth it. How about an outside place of beauty? With only 20 people you could be married in nature then go to a home for the reception or dinner. When I got married it was too hot outside so we had to have it inside. we did have it at the church, but hey wouldn't let us put any decorations or flowers in the chapel, no pictures either. (Which I think is ridiculous, it's not the temple or anything) We rented chairs that were white ith a padded seat. . Yeah we had the arch thing and were able to decorate over the hoops. Someone in charge of the building didn't like that but ,oooppss! it was already done! We also had about 150 people. NOW, if I were to do it over, I would do it the way I described to you( in message 3). You can have a VERY Classy and tasteful wedding on a small budget and short prep time. Class doesn't necessarily mean big bucks. A classy affair will let YOU feel so special. isn't that what's important?
  17. every one is entitled to believe in whatever they want. If you want to tear apart and twist words to imply things other than what we have been told by prophets, in the scriptures, and in the temple, you are free to do so. When you post a question to ask what others believe, you should hear what they say instead of challenge every post. the purpose of this forum is to teach each other the gospel and answer questions for those who as are less knowledgeable in the scriptures and true doctrine of JEsus Christ. It is not for challenging those who are steadfast in the doctrine of the true church. WE are to be a light unto the world, not a rain cloud trying to water down and change the truth.

You first need to decide if you want a rather large or small affair. The larger, the more complicated. I personally think a small wedding with close friends and family is best. Consider the feeling that would be there instead of the pomp and expense. you could have it at a special natural area that has meaning, or in someone's home. Ask a good friend to be mistress of ceremonies. you could work on a simple menu, then have her ask your family to bring things on that menu. (I'm assuming you want to keep cost down) handmade invitations on beautiful paper are much nicer and more personal than the expensive printed type. A wedding is for the couple to express their love and devotion for each other before witnesses. You will enjoy it more this way and you will be less stressed out and more likely to have a joyous day. Also, if you are going to spend any money at all, consider a professional photographer. You can find them for a wedding of this type for around $600.00. This may sound like a lot, but it's really inexpensive compared to what they charge for a full blown 4 hour shindig. Then on your anniversary, go to be sealed in the temple.

    Confused

Show up just as the opening hymn is being sung, leave 5 minutes after sacrament is over! That would give you 5 minutes to talk to anyone you wanted. At least for a start. Of course you need Sunday school and Priesthood, but that could come as you feel more spiritual and stronger.
  20. It states that Adam is the son of God because it was God that gave him life. That doesn't mean that he was his physical daddy.
  21. I read your first post a a few of the others. If I missed out on this response, sorry. It is going on page 12 now and I can't read all of the comments. Adam and Eve were born of heavenly parents. Their SPIRITS were born. Just like ours. Jesus Christ is the ONLY physical son of God, born physically here with an earthly mother. God does not go against natural laws. Natural laws say that there has to be a man and a woman to procreate. Our physical bodies are made up of earthly particles. When we die our bodies decay and return to earthly particles. These same earthly particles are the elements God used to create the first spiritual man to be clothed in flesh. If this was not so, why would the story of the creation be told over and over and over to all of God's people through all dispensations. Why is the story of creation so important? Also, remember that not every word that comes out a prophets mouth is prophecy. When speaking with and through the holy Ghost, is the time that truth is being explained. All prophets are and were men. The only perfect man was Jesus Christ himself.
  22. Hahahah good missionaries have a sense of humor! A whine board? Yeah I think that's a good idea! As far as those perfect in the scriptures missionaries, remember they only wrote about the good stuff! They didn't write in detail about the imperfections or failures. Even Nephi thought he was unworthy. As far as keeping everything going, keeping your scholarship, you need to live one day at a time. Each day do what is the most pressing at that moment. With you working and God blessing, you will not fail. A good missionary is humble. I think that is where you are right now, right? You are not your father, you are not any of the other missionaries you have written about. You have your own life and mission to fulfill. Success is measured in how closely you fulfill what Heavenly Father wants you to do. As long as you stay humble, have a desire to serve, follow missionary rules, and live up to your promises you will be a success. Just as good as any you are comparing yourself to.
  23. you're right about the other person doing something wrong. They married an abusive, drug loving, pedophile, while being naive about the sickness that some people can have.
  24. to much detail!
  25. I was in the same boat many years ago. I had to wait 20 months to get that paper! When it came it said the most wonderful words, "This marriage is as if it NEVER HAPPENED"! hahahahah That filled me with great joy! After waiting 14 months, i started seeing someone as a friend only. Someone I would never get interested in romantically. Guess what? Oh yeah! It happened! Fell BIG TIME and it was a big big mistake!
