  1. I dont know. Honest I dont know he lied about what happened in Libya. When exactly did he say that? Aside from that if he did lie it was not a case of leaking classified information. In fact it may well have been not knowing exactly what did happen at that time and was an opinion which is not a lie. I dont know. The affair is a serious moral issue and was something that compromised his entire career not to mention his family relationships. My feelings on it is that he was very good at his job till he failed big time with this. Its a sad loss for our country. I have wondered if he cant be useful on some other way but I just dont see how his talents and knowledge can be used now that it is compromised.
  2. Boy is that the truth. Nice for CNN but not so good for people being informed.
  3. Obama was voted in by a clear majority. A majority of the people did want him in office. There is no way you can say the American public wants him to do things differently. If they had, they would have voted Romney into office. Paint it how you want, that is sitll just the fact of the matter.
  4. When the person holds top secret clearance and compromises it in an affair. There is an investigation going on right now concerning the woman who wrote an biography about him and may have had access to classified information. Even the hint of this kind of impropriety is enough to fire the person responsible. This doesnt even cover the fact that he was in a position to have to fire people over the same kind of security risks. How can he fire them when he has put himself in the same sort of position? I admire the man for having the strength of character to do this and to shoulder the blame for his lack of judgement.
  5. The ones who fought and died had little say in the form of government we have. They were dead. I am looking around and see no one with guns telling me what I have to do or not do. We have the form of government we have due to compromise, which is not a dirty word. No one got the exact form of government they favored. In fact the first form failed. On the second try they worked till they came up with a form that everyone settled on. In the years since we have amended that form in quite a few ways, and re-amended, till we have the form we have today. Some day we will put the perfect form of government into effect. Till then we have to work together perfecting what we have now. Digging in our heels for any form, but the one with God at its head, is pointless and defeats our own selves. Working together to improve our government is an ongoing process and one we are very mistaken to shut down.
  6. Wouldnt this make sense? If people felt they were on the wrong track wouldnt they vote for the other guy? Since they were elected/reelected doesnt it mean people do favor their position and what they are doing? Its hard to understand why people would vote for something they dont agree with.
  7. My oldest is always dying her hair. Usually a red color but sometimes others filtered in. It looks pretty good. By now we might not even recognize her with her real hair color! Why would it concern you in the temple? Wear a hair scarf or something going in if you feel conspicuous.
  8. Now is the time we clarify what socialism is. Most do socialists do not regard force as any part of it. No doubt most capitalists do not regard money mongering as part of their creed either. It is probably better to let each define their own terms without the emotional baggage flame points. The United Order has all things in common. Every person has their needs and wants addressed as is possible. Every person contributes to the society as is possible. This is socialism to me. In our government we elect officials to be our voice. If we object to them we put someone else in place. If a program is voted in that someone doesnt like they are free to fight it with new officials or persuasion of the ones already in office. That does not sound like force to me unless you prefer another form of government which of course you are free to find. Oh and for the reference to Joseph Smith saying he does not believe in that form of government, it would be more convincing if we could see the talk presented to see what he actually objected to.
  9. Brigham Young:"There shall be no private ownership of the streams that come out of the canyons, nor the timber that grows on the hills. These belong to the people: all the people.” Joseph Smith: “if you are not equal in earthly things you cannot be equal in obtaining heavenly things.” Brigham Young: “We have plenty here. No person is going to starve, or suffer, if there is an equal distribution of the necessaries of life.” Acts 2:44-47 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church[a] daily those who were being saved. 3Ne: 26:19-20: 19 And they taught, and did aminister one to another; and they had ball things ccommon among them, every man dealing justly, one with another. 20 And it came to pass that they did do all things even as Jesus had commanded them. 4 Ne:1: 3: And they had aall things common among them; therefore there were not rich and poor, bond and free, but they were all made free, and partakers of the heavenly gift. Now this chapter has a lot more that is pertinent. These very much so. 4 Ne: 25-26: 24 And now, in this two hundred and first year there began to be among them those who were lifted up in pride, such as the wearing of costly apparel, and all manner of fine pearls, and of the fine things of the world. 25 And from that time forth they did have their goods and their substance no more common among them. Is that enough? I am sure I can find many many more. lol ok Margin of Error beat me to some of them. Ty. :)
  10. Skippy, I can sympathize with that. I spend a lot of time correcting misinformation as well. I may not be the best representative of the church but it is a worthwhile thing to do. Many of my friends online are liberal so I am probably one of the few actual LDS people they ever talk to. It is amazing some of the really wrong ideas out there that need to be corrected. Like LDS women being down trodden and muzzled. lol.
  11. TMobiles generic phone can have internet access but doesnt as default and it is just not set up to use it very well. It does do texting. It is a very simple flip open phone with the fanciest thing about it being the optional red color. :)
  12. Your link isnt working. Dont know why. It tries to redirect but is unsuccessful. You do know that socialists can and do believe in the constitution?
  13. Oklahoma has deadly winters lately. huge ice storms that put the power out for weeks. Theres also tornadoes. Please dont move there. lol. In fact avoiding tornadoes seems like a plan to me.
  14. Most Prophets tend to avoid politics with good cause. We dont need any more martyrs do we? There is also the thing about many members of the church live under other governments including socialism. Should we be calling them out as being evil? I do seem to recall and Article of Faith addressing that issue. I also recall that Jesus was not overly interested in governments except for His Fathers kingdom. Perhaps our attention should be directed in similar ways.
  15. Sure they are. One is more confident. :) But they are still open to the judgement of the person hearing or reading it. Anyway while this all does apply to the topic it is still a bit sidelined. Besides I was teasing you a bit even if I do believe what I said. :)
  16. If I didnt think I was right wouldnt it be stupid for me to say it? lol I have always laughed at the idea of people saying things they knew or thought were wrong. Now, Eowyn, you are sitting there right now thinking you are right. And of course you should be! You are not dumb enough to be saying things you dont believe.
  17. Thank you. And I am also right. You may use a small p but conservatives in the church see it as Prophet Benson.
  18. Pres. Benson was not a prophet then so no they never did count as Gospel and Elder Romney never was prophet. I dont know when he said what he said.
  19. Yes and When did he say those? He mentions prophets as if he was not one yet. So do we have to believe all his opinions at that time? Why do you suppose we dont take sides on candidates anymore? Sure there is the tax thing but more importantly, in my opinion, it has a lot to do with conservatives throwing Pres. Bensons OPINIONS out there as if they were from God. They arent. They are from Pres. Benson long before he was president of the church.
  20. The San Diego area is wonderful and too many people know it. It is very pricey. Has a nice bunch of LDS people there. :) We used to go to church in Alpine, a little town near there, up the mountain a little bit. You might check that out. It is extremely nice. :) Not the Alpine in northern Cal. although that is a lovely area but very snowy in the winter.
  21. Socialism is not a dirty word. My husband is a proud socialist. One daughter, at least, is socialist and she is proud of it. I am not socialist but have liberal leanings. One son is a far right conservative. I am not sure what emotional laden term to call him. Problem is that we throw the terms around without even knowing what they mean just for the emotional impact, usually negative. Comparing a person, or their beliefs, to Hitler, in anyway is not going to make friends. Calling a person a socialist isnt either since they generally know you are attempting to insult them. To try to throw the blame on the recipient is just ingenuous to say the least. An insult was intended so he ought man up and admit it but no he is going to blame her for 'misunderstanding'.
  22. My Nook downloads pretty close to instant. Only problem I ever have is with my internet service not the Nook. My Nook does read at least some, particularly childrens books. In fact you can let it read or record your own voice reading it. You can always download audio books as well. I havent tried to use a library borrow. Got to get through the 2 million free books first. Its got more books and magazines and newspapers than my local and near local libraries have. Nook has a section of interactive books that I havent taken much of a look at yet. If Nook had nothing else the Gospel Library is worth it. LIke mentioned before it has everything. All the church magazines going back for years. The conferences forever back. Manuals, both student and teachers, It is just mind boggling and its all searchable. I was reading the gadionton robbers parts recently and I was flat out amazed. Oh my gosh. lol. I would seriously get a higher grade Nook just to make that fast and easy. It is seriously amazing. And free. I have found several Of Pres. Uch. books for FREE. sorry not spelling it right now lol. There islkoi quite a lineup of church books and apps on it. Including games. I sure do love it all. Totally amazing.
  23. True but it wasnt him saying it. It was other people. It just seemed very weird because it is so far from how we do things, yet was said by an LDS person. People look like they are settling down today. Or I havent been on facebook a lot today.
  24. ok do you have an internet connection on it? Do you have a b&n account? On mine I just go to 'store' and find what I want to read. It makes sense to me for you to go to the store and ask someone to show you how to work your nook. They have free internet there for the nooks AND you can read any book, as far as I know, for the time you are at the store. Even if its not top of the line it is still worth getting to know. I used my phone for reading ebooks till I got the Nook. I would guess that might be similar. For that one I just went to the store icon on the top of the page. It looks like a stylized shopping bag?
