  1. Its so easy to criticize. I am trying to remember where Jesus said let us justify our disdain for the poor. After all if they werent stupid layabouts we would have no poor to ruin the beautiful landscape. Today I am thankful for the blessings God freely gave me without even asking if I was perfect before giving them. I am thankful for the many who have given so much willingly to those less able or fortunate. I am thankful for the angels that President Monson talked about all around us answering prayers and not doing an inventory of righteousness first. We, my family and I, are truly blessed. I pray I might be that angel that someone else needs and that I can do it with love. He knows we dont have a lot but what we have is His. If we can give a bag of oranges or a package of potato chips to that man on the street who has not eaten for three days in one of the richest towns in America because he broke down passing through. It breaks my heart to see and know the stories of those in need knowing the need can be filled but wont be. How can we do that to people? WE own NOTHING. It is ALL Gods and we are here to take care of each other not call each other stupid or lazy. Words truly do kill the spirit.
  2. In our area it takes years for the list to get to you. You can not just get a house. First you have to 'qualify' then the house has to qualify for your family. You may think you can get by with two bedrooms but they wont let you do that. At one time we were in a position where that would have helped us. We did qualify but we had too many kids even though we would have been on a fast track being homelss if I remember right. We had six kids at the time so we had to have a four bedroom house. Oh and that would have been for a limited time because I was pregnant which put us the the five bedroom houses. They never got four bedroom houses. Nevermind we had never lived in a four bedroom house in our lives we could only get one with four even though they didnt have four. So we went off to Slab City in the warmer desert where we could live in a bus or a car or whatever. No qualifications there. So no it is not that easy.
  3. hmmm now theres an obvious but hidden in plain sight observation!
  4. The Russians claimed to defeat the Nazis. They also claimed to invent the wheel and fire. Doesnt mean its true.
  5. Welcome to the wonderful world of kids. Lots of no sleep, worry, etc ahead but the greatest thing ever. Stop and enjoy it is all the advice I would give. :)
  6. going to have to check this one out. Billy the Kid was actually thought to be left handed till they realized the negative had been flipped. Perhaps I should have said negative not film?
  7. Not fond of the conquer and war aspects. :) Nevertheless I do love it and will defend it even against my husband who prefers 'America the Beautiful'. A beautiful song as well but not rousing.
  8. No. I 'cheated' and looked it up so not telling. Line of logic would have made sense to me though. I am a heretic since I do love the national anthem and its reason for being written. Not so fond of the lyrics but totally love the resounding music!
  9. We know the left hand is sinister so does it follow that marriage is also sinister?
  10. He would not 'allow' you permission to believe as you wish? The church is not in the business of causing discord in marriages.
  11. He has not appeared in the heavens ending this dispensation and cleansing the earth. When He does, all sides will hear even if they have avoided doing so in the past.
  12. I vehemently disagree as to the root cause. The root cause was a whole lot longer time ago. Go back to Abraham and see two women. One who wanted to continue Abrahams seed by whatever means possible and another that wanted her son to be favored as the heir of all of Abrahams blessings. Neither seemed to trust God so there was great evil done. Abraham had to, in essence, disinherit one son to the point of sending him and his mother into the desert to probably die. Neither side is going to forget and neither side is ever going to love their cousins. Worse they are always going to desire/despise what the other has/is. When I say never, I mean not till Jesus appears to them and tells them to knock it off.
  13. lol wonder why. Probably flipped film. A little bit of research was very interesting. Not all cultures use the left hand. After reading it makes me even more determined to never wear a wedding ring. yuck. Wedding ring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  14. Well they are not scripture. We dont actually ignore any of the early writings but dont use them as scripture.
  15. Those are pretty much shortened versions of the actual commandments. Perhaps they thought that was already covered? I dont know. I am LDS not Catholic. :)
  16. I am going to assume you arent a union representative? So what would he be bribing you for? Interesting you knew Simplot and his family. My moms family lived next to him growing up. She was a bit younger but her older siblings used to play together all the time. Of course that was long before he made all his money. I do believe it had a positive effect on the relationship between the company and the union during his life. There was mutual respect. Hostess and the union obviously had no respect for each other. At one time they seemed to try to work together. For whatever reason that ability broke down. I dont suppose we will ever agree on why.
  17. My parents were union leaders in the company they worked for. My father was elected as business agent because the agent they had was corrupt. He was buddies with the company in bad ways like getting a company vehicle for his own use. His cronies got free passes on a lot of crap and job bid favoritism. Now that is an example of a bad union. When my dad became business agent all that stopped. My mom was a union steward. I know many times she really didnt like a person but she defended them. If there were bad circumstances like health she would work for compromises to being fired. She knew the owner of the company since childhood. JR Simplot. Simplots also owns Micron. Anyway he knew my parents wouldnt put up with the bribes so he stopped doing that. He was a tough bargainer but conditions were pretty good and wages did go up. Both the union and the company respected each other. Times have changed. The company closed here after JR died. Unions have been broken here in Idaho. Conditions are not better for the workers. Simplots have closed three plants in Idaho and are going to open one with only about 250 workers, having modernized and eliminated hundreds of jobs. I wish companies would be honorable in dealing with their workers but most wont on their own. Hostess is pretty good example of disregard for workers. The workers give up wages and benefits to keep the company afloat and the high level execs raise their wages instead of putting the money back into the company. Not just the CEO by the way. Many, if not all, of the higher level people doubled or more their wages in the last years. The workers just got fed up with it all.
  18. We had a neighbor at the far end of our 2 acre lot that smoked a bit. We could smell it very easily. It STINKS and is very strong.
  19. If you know him well you might tell him the smell is getting to be overpowering and that some neighbors might be inclined to report him. He might need someone to listen to him. The pot is not good but with his wife dying it just seems like piling on pain to get him arrested for it. He is clearly not thinking well at the moment already.
  20. Please make sure she knows that the healing power of the atonement is not about repentance in her particular case. And again therapy or at the very least a support group.
  21. Unions did not throw the workers under the bus. The workers vote to accept or decline offers from the companies. The workers, in this case, had already accepted lower wages and fewer benefits with the proviso that the money saved would go into the business in the form up updating machinery, product etc. Instead it was put into higher wages for the higher management. Last year the company even abandoned the pension plan, against agreement. All in all the company seemed bent on failing. The workers have said that they knew they would probably lose their jobs but they figured, in their own words, they would 'take one' for other workers to keep other companies from doing the same to their workers. We will see how it plays out.
  22. Still we dont start out perfect in marriage so they can learn. Just got to get this last month down.
  23. No wonder we have marriages that dont consummate for years after the wedding. Pour on guilt. I guess I really am evil. Ok so you dont want to go there until after the wedding. Thats smart. Now get some chaperons and get busy preparing for the wedding. I mean really busy. lol. Talk on the phone a lot and keep it clean. If it is seriously going to be a problem stay away from each other. Keep busy. Write a lot in your journal. Be sure to mention how you are surviving this last month and looking for it to be over. Cold showers might be in order. Might work. Who knows. lol. Dont beat yourselves up. You can do last a month. So are you educated about the wedding night? You know its going to go a lot farther than touching 'chests'? And believe me. Its a lot more fun. IF you dont get the idea its all sinful and bad. NONE of its sinful. In its place. It is not about not 'doing IT'. Its about doing it at the right time and with the right person. :) Sorry if I am overreacting. We just see so much on here about how marriages are in trouble over misconceptions and guilt. Smile. Wait with anticipation and then have a great marriage. :)
  24. The twinkies are NOTHING like the ones when I was a kid. The filling is just grease and not tasty at all. Anyway, was talking to a guy in Canada and they are still going to be in operation there. Apparently they are only going bankrupt in the states and yes they have good unions in Canada. Kinda slammed that argument. Oh and thing about the teamsters is they are the posterboard for Unions Gone Bad, while the smaller union is a good one. In fact I know/met the president of that one. He worked with my parents when they held offices in the Grain Millers Union. He is not stupid. The CEO did good on the deal by the way. 3.5 million for not working out an agreement. Not bad.
  25. Salt Lake means one thing to me (well besides the temple). Family History Center. Theres always something worthwhile to do there.
